I second that and try to not take you or the site for granted. I've learned so much from Balipod over the years and made some real friends through the site.

    Opening a Photographic Gallery

Mark, that photo is amazing. And so completely different from the man making offerings you recently posted. I'm a big fan of your work.

    Bahasa Indonesian Language Tuition

I haven't tried the Pondok Pekat Library but I have had lessons at Cinta Bahasa and they are excellent. Right now I'm taking lessons from Learn Indonesian Bali. Mine are private classes with Apin and I'm very happy with her.

    Experience to share

Crosskeycottage, you should write a blog or a diary while all the experiences are still fresh in your mind. Later you'd be glad to have it. If you do write a blog post the link in your Balipod sig line. We'd love to see it.

I don’t understand “don’t get logged.” Can you explain it to me?

    Banjar Fees, advice please

That clears up some of your situation and I can see why you think you’re not being treated fairly. I don’t know about the legal status of paying fees to the local banjar but I’ve never heard of a property that is exempt from it in Bali or anywhere else I’ve ever lived. Be sure to always get a...

    Banjar Fees, advice please

Yes, Daniel, the amount, at first glance does sound quite high but we don’t have enough information to say. It is too late now but I keep beating this drum. It is important to have a meeting with the banjar BEFORE buying property and since you are not a new resident of Bali I’m surprised you...

    Bali Begging Street Kids

Here’s an article I ran across this morning in the Bali Discovery Tours newsletter. When I pass the begging street children I feel helpless, frustrated, and guilty because I do not give them money. It seems to me that handouts to them only encourages a terrible situation. (I live in Indonesia so...

British Drug Mule / Grandmother Nabbed....

She would probably be better off with the maid and gardener who are currently taking care of her. Yes, I do understand that is a glib comment and I know nothing about the situation of these suspects but the Balinese do know a thing or two about raising kids well.

Seeking information-Wireless internet speeds/experiences (+ own my Smartfren testing)

Months ago we changed to Blueline. In the beginning speeds were as promised but recently Blueline has become s-l-o-w. If they can’t fix the problem I’ll be looking for another solution and I really dislike fooling with the internet stuff because I don’t understand it at all and find it...

    Muesli recipe

Thanks for the compliments and kind words, guys. I never would have expected to hear praise for my muesli recipe but it is the only recipe in my 4000+ recipe database that I consider truly my own invention. I developed it over time, adding and subtracting, because I couldn’t find a commercial...

    Invisible Bedbugs or...?

At this point an issue will be leaving the hotel and not taking the bedbugs along. They are almost certainly in the luggage which means that not only would Golem still have the bedbugs but would also be infesting a new location. There is an American product called Cedarcide which is very safe...

I make my own. The recipe is forgiving and you can increase, decrease, omit or add ingredients. Satellite / Cable TV

No, you don’t have to buy a satellite dish to watch any tv. There are approximately 12 free-to-air stations on our tv. Just like in your own country the free-to-air stations are in the native language so they are not in English. If you want English tv you will have to subscribe to a...

Is there daily connection from Lovina to Ngurah Rai Airport??

Depending on the driver, it can be really beneficial to develop a relationship with a driver, especially if you do not speak Bahasa Indonesia or Balinese. The drivers often have great connections around Bali and can be a good source of information about the island. And, as you said in an earlier...

Indonesia doesn´t have LABOUR DAY, my opinion about salaries in Bali

We have lived long term in three countries and travelled to very many. Over the years so many people have asked us what the salaries are in this or that place. We’ve always answered by saying it doesn’t really matter what the salary is when seen in isolation. Cost of living, taxes, political...

    Posting from australia to Bali

Mail isn’t delivered to our home address because we are rural and at our little Sukawati post office we don’t have boxes. Our address is Pos Restan Sukawati. We’ve not had any problems with deliveries but many people have complained about receiving empty or partially empty packages. I’d imagine...
