Okay Markit, a doggy bottle is on offer next time. We will drag Andrew over from next door. He told me that he has never met an idiot before. I said " have I got a deal for you"

Not true. I meet one every time I look in the mirror. Should I bring my wife, my girlfriend and my wife´s girlfriend too? But they drink champagne, and I´m not sure if Ron has that kind of liquids.

True story...
my Indonesian wife, much, much younger than me was visited recently by a whole bunch of her ex-flight attendant colleagues on a trip to Bali. Ok....so I'm sat with at least 8 Indonesian and Philippine beautiful ladies in a resto in Seminyak.

I went to the bathroom where a couple of Aussie kids asked...."Are you someone famous or something?" I'd had copious wine and haughtily replied "Have you ever heard of Justin Bieber?"

"Mum, Dad!" the kids yelled whilst running to their parents inside the restaurant "It's Justin Bieber's grandad!"

well Markit, not every ugly, fat, white woman over 40 sizes up the young, pretty Indonesian women.

But, OT : in Melbourne earlier last year I was in a hotel eating dinner in the restaurant. One evening, a considerably older 'gentleman', by 20 years or more, walked/hobbled over to my table with a piece of paper in his hand, put it down on my table saying "this is my room number, you have 10 minutes and then the offer expires!"

Whaaaat! Was that when the viagra expired?!?!?! ..........

I do still pop in from time to time but much of the content is repeats of years gone by. Still my favourite forum on Bali and nice to see some of the old posters still in here. My tickets are booked for March 5th to Makassar and I plan to have a week or two in Bali if able.

Having an Indonesian husband you get a fair amount of shit from people.. We have had an Australian man about 65 approach us in Seminiyak and advise me I was a very silly naive girl and he would just take all my money.. But it seems to have subsided a little bit over time or maybe you just become to used to people being so discreet when they stare, whisper and gossip amongst themselves.

My friend has since fallen for a friend of ours and going out with them now causes more than it ever has.. Maybe it looks like the 2 local boys have swept the young tourists off their feet. Im not sure, I dont really care...

For a western/local relationship to survive immigration process's, long distance for extended periods of time, dealing with peoples stereotypes, cultural difference and language barriers then I often think to myself our relationship is far more honest and has alot more strength and love compared to most western and western relationships.

Markit, its even really, the amount of males and females who are horrified that an Australian mine
worker would actually have an Indonesian wife..Its almost like they wanted to spit on him and run from
their seats..
The change in their demure, body language is amazing when they realise he is married to an Australian woman..

that just flabbergasts me that people would be like that! I am not sure how I'd even bring the conversation around to what nationality a spouse of someone I had never met would be! Excuse the bad English, but I am show you know what I mean! :05.18-flustered:

Not that I would just meet someone and want to know the nationality, age or gender of their partner immediately : just flabbergasted!

I'm trying to understand what is happening with these people.

Generally we all take an intense interest in our fellow humans - it's natural, after all we are very social animals, even before Facebook and Twitter came along.

So how does this perfectly normal and healthy interest suddenly change into varying levels of invasive prejudice?

This overt prejudice to WASPs (White Anglo Saxon Protestants) running happily through the jungle hand in hand with small brown people seems to be limited in large part to Bintang t-shirted Antipodeans and amongst their fellow small brown Indonesians who are generally not noted for their prudish behaviour.

At this stage I have to admit that several years ago I knew of a rather large German woman that went to Sri Lanka with the sole purpose of find a sperm source that would come back to Germany and play papa. She fell mad in love with this very small brown sperm source had baby, he got a German passport and was never seen again. Not exactly a happy ending. Except for small brown source.

So I am also prejudiced when I see a similar situation coming down the line but not because of the nationalities involved but more due to the pre-ordained futility of it all.

Any particular part Goldminer? Or do I perceive some predjudice against the poster? Personally I am enjoying this thread and all postings up until yours. Maybe just a bad day or a little too much pop? Here's wishing you a better day tomorrow.

Goldminer you seem to have turned into a very bitter, old man. You used to contribute interesting and funny things to this forum. What changed?

I have no problem with you that we can't discuss in a PM if you wish?

Why don't you try and add something of interest to this instead of acting like someone that just came out of a hole in the ground (Troll?).

What a load of crap!

I'm with Goldminer on this one. There does seem to be an unusually high element of crapiness in the post he is referring to.

Bintang t-shirted Aussies are no more bigoted than anybody else. And yes, you will get remarks from locals when walking down the street with a younger woman. So what? It's nothing to do with prejudice, it's simply bad manners. It has never bothered either of us, we just ignore it.

So Markit is saying he would view me and my twenty-year younger Balinese wife with prejudice because he believes our relationship is "futile"? Not only that, the futility is pre-ordained in his mind because of his knowledge of what happened in the past to a German woman with a younger person of a different race.

Like Goldminer said, what a load of crap.

No offence Markit, old chap.

Nooffence, but I don't think that's what Markit is saying - I'm not quite certain what he's saying when he said..

Maybe he's having JP Satre flashes (not hot flushes] in his dotage "sigh the futility of it all, life, the universe and everything"
Maybe love, vegetable gardening and the endless pursuit of cheese has given him a new found prophetic depth to which us mere mortals can only aspire (or step around it and rapidly walk on by).

But he is right in some of his more lucid moments: People do need to get a sense of humor (generally, not particularly this poster)

SHoggard:

Well, he should preface his posts with a warning then. Maybe something like "Warning: I am an insensitive idiot. Please disregard any stupidity or perceived insults in this post.".

It's a favourite ploy of our friend Mr. Markit. Make some crass comment and then blame the OP for taking offence by saying 'get a sense of humour'. He should know better at his age (I'm guessing here, maybe he really is the age his avatar suggests). If he said some of the things he said here to a stranger in a pub he might wake up next morning in intensive care. Also, hasn't he discovered the use of 'smileys'? When you make a sarcastic or insulting comment online then at least this can inform the reader that it is a joke, not to be taken seriously.

Having said that, I have nothing against the bloke. Some of his posts have even made me laugh.... well, snigger maybe. I think he just needs to think more about how people he has never met, or communicated with, might react to some of his comments.

OK. Group hug now. ;)
