I have heard there is La Bella italian restaurant in Sanur but am not able to find it's location

Does anyone know it and where it is?

And if you have been there, a score out of ten

Do they have Fried Calamari on the menu?

Thanks in advance

I have never heard of it. There is an Italian restaurant named La Bruschetta on Jalan Danau Poso. This is very good.
There is also Sal E Pepe on Jalan Cemara, this is also very good.
The Village is basically Italian but covers other dishes as well.
Basilico is on the beach and is part of the Prama Sanur Beach Hotel.
Massimos is very popular with tourist, personally I will never go back there.
Those 5 are all within easy walking distance of my place in the south of Sanur.
La Barraca is a bit further north. I have always had good meals there as well.

Thanks for your response n.i

The reason I ask is there is a 'famous' pizza resto in Darwin called the Super Pizza Fannie Bay

La Bella in Sanur was started by someone from SPFB (within the last 12 months) in conjunction with the main man from Darwin (who also lives in Sanur for a few months at a time)
So, it would be good, for sure

I just cannot find it

But if you live there and know all the others then it has probably closed already
There is a FaceBook page but nothing on it that I can see

I have been to Massimos once - that's where I encountered Storm Dark (really nice drop)
But I don't think Massimos is a stand-out and I would try all the other ones on your list before going there again

This has got me buggered, I really do know a lot about what happens in Sanur but I have never heard of a restaurant here having that name.
As an example of knowing things,
(1) the Regent Hotel in Sanur will change its name sometime this week.
(2) Sal e Pepe mentioned above will probably close its doors very soon.
(3) One of coldest beers available in Sanur is at a Spa and Salon on Jalan Sekuta.
(this must establish some sort of record as an absolutely useless post)

Is the famous Beer Massage place still there?
It's on my Bucket List

I want to visit the Kusamba salt farming quite soon and will go to Sanur on that trip to savour some of the restos from your list

And I want to see Badung up close because last time just drove thru for the first time and thought I need to come back here for a better squizz because it looked so nice

Either drive down thru CandiDasa or go back that way - the Lotus Seaview in CD is a fav of mine

More info

The Fannie Bay Super Pizza guy helped this person to get started with advice, planning and recipes, etc, but I think things are now not so good there
I would be surprised if it is not still going because the recipes are very good
Excellent fried calamari with fondant potatoes and veges
He told me the hardest part was getting the ingredients and I can understand that
If you are into cooking, the first thing you notice about Bali is not everything is in the place you expected it and you must hunt for it
Result: change your ways and go with what you can get here

e.g. I am now eating rice whereas for my first 58 years I did not really like it that much - but it's great when you are hungry and want 2,000 of something

You are right Normy, The Regent has the buffet Sunday lunch. The hotel will be known as Fairmont very soon.
Paulseawind, the beer massage place is still operating on Jalan Danau Poso. It is actually up for sale or over contract. It is near a bar named Ye Olde Cock in Hand. I have been known to have a beer in there from time to time. Actually I have been known to have a beer in most bars in Sanur.
Sorry Paulseawind I think you have the name of this Italian restaurant incorrect. The only pizza place in Sanur that has had Australian input is the Pizza Club. Alas I am yet to find decent fried calamari anywhere in Bali. For this reason I cook my own.

I agree about the fried calamari
You need Maridor as well for it
I think the squid must be no longer than 15cm
And you need the oil very hot, like 230degC
Roll it in flour and Maridor and put it in the hot oil until browned
Delicious

The name La Bella, I thought I was correct but obviously not

I am male and married, therefore I am often wrong as well.
Paul if you get the chance come to Sanur tomorrow (Saturday). It is the first Saturday in the week so we are having a few palate cleansing beers at my place around 2 or 3 PM. Actually anyone who would like to call in is welcome.

It is the first Saturday in the week

Sounds good and thanks for the invite and I had already started the process of getting a car but not yet sure if tom is OK or not
I will ask her again - I will have a Balinese friend with me - she's a lovely girl and has been great help over the past 18 months

I will get back to you and hope to be able to meet up, but not confirmed yet

I want to go to Kusamba (I want to get salt crystals and see the ops there) and then back via Bedugul to get more strawberries
My hskpr Ketut made some strawberry juice from Bedugul strawbs someone gave me and it's rather nice - I never thought to do that

Gatsu, Denpasar
La Bella is on Jl. Tirta Nadi, just before the junction with Kutat Lestari.
Numbers are 0878 60881 409 or 08133 7589 902.
Don't ask for more info on how to find it as I got this from someone else.
they told me the food is typical Italian kampung food, very cheap and absolutely delicious!

MikeG thanks very much for passing this information along

I know it will be very good food - the recipes come from a very successful restaurant

Very cheap? OK, so much the better

It is on my List for next visit to Sanur

oops Mike is 100% correct. Because it is not in the tourist strip I forgot that particular little place was even there. In fact I never knew the name of it. The embarrassing part is that I drive past the place every couple of days and buy stuff from the hardware shop next door.
It is between the Cavern Bar and the Man Shed.

n.i - give it a try! MikeG's "absolutely delicious" is enough of a reason to try it

Normally with the wifey in Darwin I would order a medium Napoli pizza with extra tomato sauce on the base and a Fried Calamari with Veges, and we'd share both dishes

Wow this is really motivating me to go to Sanur

Do not get excited about calamari anywhere in Bali. The "chefs" here destroy it on a regular basis.
I can almost guarantee the two 18 year old girls cooking at La Bella will do the same.
I have asked a few friends who live in that area about the food at the restaurant. The comment generally is "yea, it is okay".

Ah - OK
I can well understand the 18 yr olds not getting it right
And thanks for the "feed" back LOL

Where do you get the calamari you cook and what are the 'specifications' of it?
Someone told me not more than 15cm long
How do you cook it?
Do you also keep the head intact and cook it so the 'tentacles' are crispy?

I saw my wife clean a squid here at home and it looked like a lot of work and not something I wanted to do

Have you got a recipe I might try because I'd love to have it - I can get Ketut to do the dirty work part, plus train her

When I see Cumi Goreng on menus I start thinking 'I wonder if they can make a Club Sandwich' . . . . .

I totally agree they stuff up the calamari here - NFI is what I think, but that's an Education issue
The only one I like from the maybe 15 places I have tried is the Thai Lemongrass on Jl. Melasti in Legian
Mike and his wife (she I have not met) run a great resto there but even theirs is nowhere near like how the Italians do it
They go the sweet chilli sauce way with theirs

Paul take the foreskins you mentioned in a different post and sew them into a small bag, then put the bag along with the 4.5 cm long calamari in a bowl of water that you have previously dissolved a Cialis in, mentioned in a different post, and stand well back.

The foreskins will now be much larger and you can use them as a rucksack and the calamaris will also have increased in size to be useable as a substitute foreskin which you kindly mentioned in a different post you no longer have. Perhaps send this recipe to your son who also is sans foreskin as mentioned in a different post.
