In most browsers, if you right click the link you get choices including "New Tab" and "New Window". I have checked IE, FireFox and Google Chrome - they all offer the choices.

If someone has a problem with a post, please use the report function, rather than responding to the post. It makes it easier to just remove from the discussion. If people start responding to posts that break the forum rules, it becomes more difficult then to clean up the thread.

I would like to suggest a "Naughty Step" in the forum. My idea would be a prominent place in the home page for the Avatar of the offender and a note of his transgression (women are sickeningly nice, even anonymously) along with the sentence passed - to be decided by democratic vote?

I read the posts and this is what I think (sorry if I repeat what's been posted before, but this is my way of mind mapping):

1) Like Mimpimanis: I like the colour, reminds me of chocolate and coffee. It's not a standard colour for a forum, that's why I like it and it's not distracting.
I also like the simple lay out. But if you want to target more visitors/ members, you could choose a more active colour and lay out.

2) Thinking of commercialising the forum? Please limit (or avoid) moving ads, very annoying, distracting and they stimulate epileptic attacks :p

3) Comparing with other forums posts are way too often off topic. It is not very "efficient" nor "effective" when you are looking for certain information and you have to read too many off topic texts first. The searcher can lose her/his interest and surf on.

At the same time, off topic posts colour the forum in a friendly, cosy little community (not every off topic post btw, as you can read e.g. in this topic) This makes this forum also different from other forums I know (which are more to the point)
So I think there is a choice to make in this. Not necessairly one or the other, but probably a balanced combi of both, but it needs a consequent hand (shoops, is this English?)

4) Yes I agree, it's tIme to reorganise the subforums ("Living on Bali" instead of "Bali expat forum" ) Maybe even start subsubforums for a faster search and a more organised look (E.g. "Costs of living" as a sub of "Living on Bali") Especially when the forum is getting bigger and bigger they will make it more functional.

Dividing in Blocks & Subs, to give you an idea:

Announcements
Rules
Announcements, tips etc

Bali General:
General subs ( money related things, post office...)
Culture
News
Nature
Food
Language

Travelling
To Bali (e.g. tickets)
On Bali
Taxi
Busses
Accommodations

Immigration/emigration:
Immigration Bali/Indonesia
Visa
Work & Living (sub: costs of living)
immigration to (back to England, US, Germany)
Visa England, US, Germany (e.g. for Indonesian partners)

Communication & Streaming Media
Telephone
Internet
Streaming vids
Music

Others
Off topic subs
Events/ get to gethers
To buy and sell (second hand books, water cooker)
Sponsored links

5) I like the blogs the way they are (as a subforum) It feels as they are a part of the forum and is more tempting to read them than when linked to a different blogsite.

6) A non- Bali sub. ? To talk about granny's pants, blisters, football and other *non-sense* subjects (sorry to football freaks  haha..)

I hope you understand what I have been typing, I am a very tired non-native-speaker :p
Good luck with the transformation, Spicychicken!

I agree with Dash - get Roy back and let opinions fly! We can police ourselves and vibe out when required. This Forum use to be a kick just like Dasha said, but it is a bit, if not a lot, boring now.

Color...hmmm?

Could we not add a little non-adv graphics?

And I liked when the new topics used to scroll at top of page!

I also use to like it when my college babe would slip over late and..............

I have posted some more ideas I have for the forum and some proposed designs in the members section if anyone is interested in having a look.

I think if you would find a way to filter out all the childish discussions you will actually have an informative forum.

If you have a look to the trip advisor forum they have zero tollerancy for rudeness and insulting. Negative messages who get reported dissapear almost straight away.

Lets see how long it takes before I get insulted 8)

@ balibule....
from mimpi the thumbs up,
and another finger from me  ...couldn't resist I'm sorry :) . ( childish I know 8) )

but seriously, imho, this forum or it's members aren't that insulting to each other are they?
ofcourse once in a while there are some 'flamers' (if I remember the 'term' right?)
but if it stays within certain limits (as described in the rules, I have actually read them  ) I don't see anything wrong with a 'heated' discussion.

Moderator! He should be banned!

A bit of heat fits on a tropical Bali-forum, but I read some older posts that made me frown a bit (not very nice about Western women)

Balebule, when the forum heads for a clean, informative site, yeah,
then filter all childish posts... but then... I should be filtered as well.

That's a bit cryptic Gemma, what do you mean??
I quite like a bit of spark in a forum, as long as it's not deliberately nasty or inflammatory.

As soon as I upgrade the forum I will look at all of these kinds of requests.

There are a few Bali and travel related forums. There is simply no way of pleasing everyone visiting the site.

I still think this is the best place for people looking for information on actually living in Bali. The different types of opinions and views on the world, however weird or unusual are fairly typical on any expat forum I have been involved in.

Mmm...well...this is the first forum I feel there is enough space for personalised posts. I myself like to pinch and wink at the same time. Not meaning any harm by it btw, it only means that I feel at ease. So remember... the harder I pinch someone, the more I love that one. -Grinse-.

Spicy, I keep wondering: do you want to continue this forum as it is (enough space for off topic & non-sense posts) or do you want to have a tighter policy on this? (to change it in a more clean and informative forum)

No change really. We could have an off-topic section, but I think even if someone is talking about a new movie for example, there is always some way that it relates to our life here in Bali.

Only things like the visa section, I would hope things stay on topic.
