I did once hear a story from a friend of mine that she had packed a two liter cask of wine and the customs officer was happy to let her keep it in exchange for $20AUD ... however, if it were me, I'd be far too scared to even try bringing in anything above the limit! 1 liter in all of my experiences has been the limit.

Some Dutch friends bring in 20 litres of grape concentrate and then brew up 80 litres of wine when they are here - it aint Château KnockYourSocksOff but better than the swill they sell here (except Praga) but way cheaper.
