There are a few indo.bands that i really like coz they have a really nice and unique sound. Sheila on 7 is one of the "old" alternative bands and their first (or second) album was amazing. Good stuff, but they're kind lame now. :) Peter Panu hmm. yeah they're good.. really nice melodies that sticks to the mind.. we'll see how their next album will sound. I liked Padi's first album but then they.. as SO7 .. got abit lame. And then we have Netral.. yeah! one of my fav.indo bands. They're alright and not at all lame in any way. :)

Cahaya bulan menemani aku
Cahaya bulan menemani aku
Mencumbu mesra singgasana malam
Bersenda gurau hibur bintang-bintang

Walaupun sedih dan senang melanda hati
kau tetap cahaya bulanku

Cahaya bulan menemani aku
Cahaya bulan menemani aku
Mencumbu mesra singgasana malam
Bersenda gurau hibur bintang-bintang

Walaupun sedih dan senang melanda hati
Kau tetap cahaya bulanku

Oh ya what else. Iwan Fals... i really like some of his old 'folk music' songs with acoustic guitar-picks and really really nice melodies on vocal.

Galang rambu anarki is 10 out of 10. I learned to play it folkmusic-style on guitar a couple of years ago. Love it.

cepatlah besar matahariku
menangis yang keras, janganlah ragu
tinjulah congkaknya dunia buah hatiku

doa kami di nadimu
.........

and then a few more "underground"-bands.........

Indonesian Flag (bali): Cool singer. rock/punk'ish
Instant Karma (bandung): Scream-Metal... seeing them live is like being run over by a truck. heavy stuff.

Waw... about music ... especially indonesian music- like Pak Jimbo .. i know just old groups or singers from 70-90.

i´m big fan from Iwan Falls, and i use his text for my Indonesian lessons here... and my students love that. Ebiet GAD have very pretty texte too...

Okay, i buy indonesian musics and films every years ... to learn better the new generation. But it´s different, if i hear Iwan Falls (with all of nostagia) and some good song from Peter Pan ( i know that just as music)
And i have all of VCD from Inul...as discussings project, it was very interesting. Its good for Dangdut-Party isn´t?

Jimbo, I understand what you mean now. Frankly, I find all beer too gassy and the last thing I need on top of Eri's cooking!

Get your dangdut parties in now folks! They may be a thing of the past if this anti-porn law gets past. Frankly, I can't stand the music, but sure love the motions!

Jimbo, you lived in Sulawesi a while if I recall correctly? What is the lady-boy that needs to be present at weddings there called? I suppose that will be another cultural tradition that may be at risk.

I went to one wedding here in Bali a long time ago that was between two Torajans in what we call Kampung Sulawesi on the By-Pass. I do a lot of business with these folks, thus the invite. They had two lady-boys at the wedding and all I can recall is for some reason, at least one needs to be part of the ceremony.

RE: Isn

Dark beer -love it
Dark musik -not so much.
Here the microbrews are plentiful and tasty
as are the underground beats:
http://www.sobroken.com

Is ID underground dance Music being produced in vinyl by anyone I should know of?
Ni Luh, how is it that you do not like the music of Mr. Bowie?
I must admit that as a teen I was a complete GLAMPUNK!
Oh, I was fabulous in my shag haircut, platform boots, and skintight plastic pants
Still love the man's music. Though, not so much the newest.
Right up there with Bjork on the ipod playlist for me.

He had architect Pak Made Wijaya build his house in Mustique
Also, he is known to enjoy Bali as a destination.
I have been searching for a copy of "White noise/white heat" that he recorded in BI a few years back on vinyl to no avail. It is available on tape or disk, but a limited # of promotional copies were made in this format, and I can't find one.

I could try to send some fine pacific NW microbrews if anyone would like them. The Black Butte porter is creamier than Murphy's.
I would trade for a bottle of Arak, but what I really need is proper ingredients for canang.
I have been for too long using colored paper as replacement.
Is it legal to ship areca nut?
Arak?

RE: Isn

Hi Made.....
I don't think it's legal to ship any alcoholic drinks, is it? Especially by air - the Arak of course would be "dangerous goods", being spirits. Another reason would be that most governments tax alcoholic beverages fairly heavily, so Customs and Excise would be involved!
The "Black Butte" sounds rather good - I will be in California in July for a few weeks, d'you think I might be able to find it there?
Cheers, Colin.

RE: Isn

I will have to ask my wife who is Torajan as I used to know the name but have forgotten. I did not have any at my wedding though either one that is. (civil and church)

Now I am scratching my head for the name.

Who is this Iwan Falls? Do you mean Iwan Fawzi?

Linkin Park!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My eldest son likes this heavy metal rubbish along with Slipknot. I would rather have Javenese wayang music than that :)

Iwan Falls is very famous with his critical songs ... until now
Ikang Fawzi just one singer (good looking?) famous as Indonesian Rod Stewart  ... we don´t hear about him now... or?

NONE at your wedding Jimbo? Oh my.... Without them, I've been told that no wedding in Sulawesi, with lady from Sulawesi, is considered valid. From what I witnessed, these "lady-boys" signed the marriage certificate. Why? I haven't the faintest idea...but they did at the Sulawesi weddings I was at.

Imagine the ultimate irony of all time...being told one day in the future that your marriage is not valid because you didn’t have a lady-boy” to sign your marriage certificate. Would that piss you off, or what?

Tommy, pls give explanation to Pak Jim..
Iwan Fals is a pop idealist singer, especially when he was young, like to critisize Indo Govt.

That song quoted by Tommy is dedicated to his beloved son, who has died (a musician too)

Ikang Fawzy is a rocker in 80 era,Pak JIm, I guess you are so eighties :) u know meriam belina, adn ikang fawzy :p
Linkin Park is rubbish??? Oh How u dare

In the middle to late 20th century, there were only four names in music that mattered:

-Elvis

-The Beatles

-The Rolling Stones

-And Bloody Good Gospel

All else is bullshit, even though it makes money. :p

"Isn't it amazing how people come into the forum, post a lot for a while and then disapear never to be heard of or at least very little," Pa Jimbo said.

I wish as a new member of this forum, I try to more 'dilligent' (active), not as like as you describing Pak Jimbo, especially if there is 'a witty and amazing topic' indeed. 8)

Ok, SALAM KENAL for Pa Jimbo n Mr Roy, and the others forum member ..Let's Sari (my younger sister) to introduce my self. :p

By the way, I like watching "Wayang Kulit" also, the story inside is quite interesting ( lot of humour) and philoshopy matters:)))

Cheers...

Jimbo,
Slipnot? You must be joking. Two of the members are from the little town where I live in Iowa. They still live a few minutes from my house. Small world. Didn't realize they made it to where you live....

Slipknot is also one of my son's favourite bands, along with Linkin Park, Rammstein, Opeth and Pantera.

Can't say they do much for me, though.

"Please turn that down!!", is probably the most-often heard phrase in our house.

Funny thing "Jim"...Bima and Rama just went off to school in their sports day uniforms. Bima was wearing the Duke Blue Devils hat and Rama the Univeristy of Kentucky hat. I won't let them touch either the Red Sox world series hat, or the Uconn Huskies hat! And when they come home, I'm sure they will be back to playing with those John Deere tractors and stuff.

We hear there is a new "Nuke Iran" hat out which if you can, you can bring on your next trip. Once I told the boys it has a pop up mushroom cloud, they both said they wanted it!

Eri and I are still thinking about that great time at Nuris. :D :D :D

Hi Mat saleh :)

"Please turn that down!!", is probably the most-often heard phrase in our house

Hm, my mom is "really understand" me when if I on my "meditation" :p
sing loud with Linkin Park, U2, cranberries, Pearl Jam, Live, Bush etc etc..
the quite and calm me become someone else when i am with mt fave music :)

But when my sister still in our house, she always asked "WHat kind of music ur (younger) sisters heard?? :? ?"
maybe she wonder why this youngest daughter not only choose "normal" music for girls/ woman?? :p
