This is a repeat question but haven't seen an answer so I'm re-asking. Has anyone purchased the BIMC medical insurance or have any observations or comments about it?
Our medical insurance is up for renewal soon and $650. per year sounds a lot better than the $5,000. we are currently paying.

I have membership, but not the evacuation insurance - probably I should.

This is not what you usually think of as medical insurance because many things are not covered. The membership covers all GP visits, but you pay for tests, X-rays, specialists, hospital stays, etc. Their fees for these things are higher than at places like Sanglah, but are not too bad. If you just need to see a specialist they will quote a price to have the specialist come to BIMC, or else give you a referral to go the specialist in his/her own consulting rooms.

The evacuation insurance would protect you from that small risk of a massive cost. I guess it would be wise to read the details of the process to decide if you need to be evacuated.

Astrid, if you're a resident of Australia, you could also get a quote from 1Cover. My travel insurance policy was $591.00 this year, including medical evacuation. Read the fine print and see how it compares to Covermore.

1Cover Travel Insurance - Best Value in Australia

Hi Masaleh...I did end up with 1Cover...for 9 months I pay $ 644...and no excess.......covered for everything.....pretty good deal

Did you get a special deal or something Astrid? I had a look on their website the other day and for most things there is an excess of $100.

When you request a quote with 1Cover, the price comes up on the first page. If you click, "Buy", an option asks "Remove Excess?". If you tick this box, the quote is adjusted accordingly (extra $25 to remove the excess)

What is tricky with this insurance,is that it is for 12 month. If you want to extend, any illness contracted will not be covered in the next 12 month. So only suitable for people who will be here for no more than 12 month and then return to their home country.
And it is only for people who have permanent residency in another country anyway.

Figured I'd add to this thread instead of making a whole new one. I'm navigating the insurance minefield and have it down to 2 providers.

Warning to the scuba divers (I know there aren't a ton of us here) - 1cover does NOT cover you for diving unless your c-card is from Australia, OR you're with an instructor. Doesn't matter to them that the certification agencies are worldwide.... My card was issued in Australia, but since I did the OW and AOW in bali they are not 100% I would be covered. Not a risk I really want to take if I had to go for a chamber ride $$$$. Thank god I rang them cos I don't have DAN insurance atm and was going to buy with 1cover again.

Now its the choice of a comprehensive company with no excess for $560ish (found a great coupon for TID), or a cheaper one at $340 with a $130 excess. From what I read its a crap fight to get any insurance companies to pay claims (other than medical) without a hassle and appeal so now its weighing up if its worth having no excess or just paying for cheap visits myself since costs there are not insane unless you're seriously sick.

My brain hurts now.

I would suggest the cheaper option, then pay small expenses yourself. More or less anything you have done as an out-patient will be under that excess - it's only when you stay in hospital that costs escalate.

I shopped around and the best I got was Morgan Price for around $1400 US per year.

Covered for inpatient care and evac if the care in the country provided is inadequate. (no outpatient).

Diving and watersports covered.

IF you can afford to be living overseas you should be able to afford insurance.

Dont be like some selfish people in Bali that have accidents (through no fault of their own) and end up with families back home that have to sell everything to help them.

You may think the insurance is just for you - its not - its also so your folks back home dont end up in the shit financially when that crazy microlette driver t-bones you on your scooter and your in hospital here @ over $1000 a day++ and then some..

We can afford insurance and our current insurance is up at the end of March so before we renewed with our current insurer I thought I would as other expats what deals they have an what insurance companies they are with as prices VARY SIGNIFICANTLY we are well aware of Bali and what can happen.

There was no need to be nasty or make assumptions

Thank you anyway

Hi Misty

I have bought health insurance from www.asialife.net at 1.100 dollar. The price of insurance varies with age so it may be different for you.

This doesn't include outpatient. I can also choose any hospital worldwide when I have an accident such as Singapore or my homecountry (except usa and canada).

Ask to speak with Mike.

Thank you so much :icon_biggrin: Is that just for you or your partner as well as this is for me and my partner Ben?

Hi Misty

The 1.100 is per person. No family members are covered and you would have to pay the same again for a second adult.

Either way, if you visit Mike and explain what you need he may offer you a different package that suits you better. He doesn't charge for a consultation so there's nothing to loose.

P.s. I am not earning reference fees here, just a happy customer (I also have car insurance with them)

no nastiness intended misty ben, just stressing the importance of having it.

95% of expats i know in Bali dont bother with it and think thet they can pick up a policy for a few hundred bucks.

im yet to talk to anyone whos got a solid policy for under about a grand (who is permanently domiciled in Asia)

mine also doesnt cover me for USA.
