' Balipod ' will be my constant companion for at least the next 12 months...

With the help of a wonderful man ( Teito, Ray White Paradise Real Estate ) we have found
our next chapter in our life....OUR RETIREMENT VILLA...
15 ARE in Canggu...
It will be a full renovation so I will need all your valuable advice/knowledge about architects, builders,
best place to source kitchens etc etc....
Have already combed Balipod and found wonderful information, like from Markit the best wood to use, and
a few good choices on builders..
Its going to be hard work for me, as hubby works 4/2 in Mongolia, and I will be left to pretend to know what
I am doing...!!

Anyway, I am excitingly rambling here..
Todays question,
Off to the notory on Monday in Seminyak, any advice or knowledge would be helpful...
What to ask, what to look for...??
I would like to add my 22 year old son onto the Lease incase anything happens to me or hubby..
Do I ask about extensions when visiting the notary..??
Monday is just a draft starting as the owners live in France and they want their input on the draft..

Thanks for any or all support on this matter
Lea....

Big step Lea and lots of luck - you will need nerves of iron and balls of steel (not being sexist but "ovaries" doesn't sound quite the same, does it?). Good idea to put the youngun on the lease but check first that he doesn't have to be present for every official signing or alteration. Unless that is, he will be around and available regularly.

If you need contact details for the wood supplier then just ask. I will chip in with any info that you ask for if and when.

Have fun

Nerves of iron and balls/ovaries of steel...

My previous life back in Auss I was a 'Sherriff Officer" , so
I do qualify for the balls of steels role...

But I do believe this role/challenge I am about to take on will have
me craving to return to a stressful life as a Officer...!!

My very first priority is to stake the cupboards full of my favourite liquid
" JACK DANIELS "....My consumption of liquid will increase immensely
within the next few months...!!!

Markit, thanks for offering to assist in any questions I may throw your way,
and there will be plenty..
Just knowing that there is someone that has
'been there, done that, knows that' is very reassuring ...

Do they offer AA classes in Canggu...??

I'm in aus-what's a "sherriff officer"? It sounds scarey but it just may be that it's someone who's worked in a library for 45 years for all I know?

Dunaden....Sheriff officers basically have taken on the tasks that police officers
just didn't have time for...

Escort people into court/ stay in court until hearing...
Chase people around the countryside who are avoiding the law..
Confiscate peoples property....eg....houses...cars...boats.....
Evict people from property before we take over the property...

Its not scarey just a job with a long list of people that loathe you...!!!

Fear not, officer lea, there are always ads online looking for "Sherriffs Officers". Seems like the position has a high turnover rate.

(From the comments of some of our brethren here on the pod concerning a certain miscreant inhabiting east bali,
@lea a long list of people that loathe you...!!!
I would dare to venture he can be elected unanimously as the first (and supreme commander) of the Bali Sherriffs Officers guild.

May I be the first to congratulate him :applause::applause::applause:

( ppssstt who do we evict first boss) :greedy_dollars::greedy_dollars:

Thank you so kindly, this is a proud moment. I am quite emotional! :p it would be easy to nominate certain yanks doodle dandys from the north east region, but like the body board herb packing females in Bali I find they provide us with "herbs" to munch on! :p so I will need to consult my peeps and maybe, Joji , get them to consult with yours?

Goodness me I am a civil engineer and was a registered builder in Australia. I also have a list like that.
Lea if you ever realise what a mistake you have made and want to venture over to the good part of the island, give me a shout. I will show you around Sanur.
I will promise to stay away from the houses of ill repute.

Good luck Lea,

My advise is meet the local banjar leader and ask around on what is the obligations for the expat renovating and living there and you can even bargain as a retired one

Silly things like a fee for every heavy truck passing through the banjar road or the workers registration when they live and work on site is some of the surprises that I met on construction process. But every banjar has its own funny laws :barbershop_quartet_

Make sure your are prepared and knows who will handle all of them before you sign anything:icon_e_smile:

Ferdie...Thank you for your advice...

According to the owner ( French ) one gentleman owns most of the land and has
sub-divided leasing all to foreigners...
The gentleman who owns the land also will live next door to us..

This may sound a stupid question but I really am in the dark, could this gentleman
who owns the land and will be our neighbour be the local banjar...??

Shall I just knock on his door and introduce myself...??

Lea your posts raise a number of concerns and questions.

According to the owner ( French ) one gentleman owns most of the land and has
sub-divided leasing all to foreigners...
The gentleman who owns the land also will live next door to us..

Who exactly have you contracted to buy (lease?) the land from? It sounds like you are not buying from the owner of the land but rather a second party (French)? For me this would be grounds for concern.

You sound like you are under time constraint with the buying?

No Idea....I have until Tuesday at 11.30AM to change my mind...!!

"Buy in haste, repent at leisure" - my old mum used to say.

Depending upon the extent of your renovations it can easily be cheaper/better to build new.

That's about it so far.

Markit..I didn't make myself very clear...

The lease is for 17 years plus extension...
The owner who is selling is living in France and the Balinese
who owns the land lives next door...
We will be talking to owner of 'land' to negotiate further extensions..

And you are correct...We will be knocking down the dwellings and building
from the ground up...

Let me know if you still have concerns so then I can start getting concerned also..

Oh the deal is through Ray White...Started with Shane but now we are with Teito...
