The last guy that went "missing" turned up in the fridge at the mortuary in Sanglah. I'd guess that's the first place they will be looking now?
More than you would credit go missing on the Gilis - one drunken night they decide to swim over to that great party they can hear and see on Trawangen from Meno and are washed up 2 weeks later on Lombok.
This however, seems strange (perhaps not for Indonesia) that there would be some kind of connected database between the airports:
“We have no record of (Joshua) going through our immigration checkpoint to leave the country. However I cannot confirm that he is still in Indonesia. We only monitor what is going on within our jurisdiction. If for example he were to travel to Surabaya and exit the country through there, then there is no way for us to know. Unless the embassy notify us and ask us to locate this man, then we would check with all immigration offices across the country. So far the embassy has not done so.”
If he did go to Malaysia on the 1st and nobody has heard from him, either he doesn’t want to be found or he won’t be found as someone may have fraudulently used his passport to make it appear as if he left Bali so they stop looking.
