The provincial administration plans to implement a number of major infrastructure projects in north Bali as part of the administration’s attempt to narrow the wide economic gap between the south and north parts of the island, a provincial senior official told Bali Daily recently.

Head of Bali’s Development Planning Agency, Tjokorda Ngurah Pemayun, said that among the planned projects would be the construction of a toll road connecting Kuta in Badung regency and Seririt in Buleleng, north Bali.

The planned toll road would be constructed to pass several famous tourist attractions, such as Tanah Lot Temple and Soka Beach in Tabanan regency.

“We are expecting that the planned toll road will provide greater access to north Bali. Thus, it will boost economic development in the north,” Pemayun said.

The unequal economic conditions between southern Bali and other parts of the island have become a major focus for the administration. The uneven distribution of wealth and development has stirred social problems, including urbanization.

The 73-kilometer Kuta-Seririt toll road is estimated to cost more than Rp 8 trillion (US$872 million) to build. Pemayun admitted that the project had been on the table since 2009.

The planned project, which was expected to be completed this year, had to be delayed for financial and technical reasons.

One of the potential investors was PT Bakrieland Development, which decided to back out as it might face land acquisition problems due to the high land prices.

And what has changed now? Land prices didn't get cheaper since 2009. Good plan though :applause::eagerness:
