Is there a considerable difference in the amount of tax you pay if you have a PMA as opposed to a PT company? Cheers Aidan.

Panji, Singaraja.
if it's registered on Bali, threre's no difference...a PMA is the same as an PT, just the capital is foreign investment.
rules/regulations are the same.

unless you're smart and open/register an PMA based (headquarter) in Batam.
and you could do business on Bali, with a sub-office.

Hi Gilbert

You suggest starting a PMA in Batam (head office) and open a sub-office (branch?) in Bali. Does that mean that taxes for a PMA are lower in Batam?

Where would you need to apply for the Kitas? Batam (head office) or Bali (sub-office)?

a PMA registered in Batam, that PMA doesn't pay the same taxes as let's say a PMA registered in Bali.
the mayor 'playing' room in the books is because BATAM is within a special economic zone, wich means no import tax and VAT (value added tax).
hand-in-hand with corporate income tax, wich is calculated like...income minus certain deductions..
leaves alot of room, to legally play with numbers.

a Kitas, would need to be processed/applied for in Batam.

If you have a Kitas from Batam, for a company registered in Batam, are you allowed to work in Bali?

and, no import tax in Batam; do you mean that I can import a container of wine and they won't budge?

you'd be working for that company, wich has an office on Bali ;)
depending on job-title and work description on the IMTA there should be no problem.

if your company is licensed by the government to import wine, yes you can import a container full of wine and will not pay any taxes on it.
