How to activate the TelkomSel simPATI sim card for 3g?

Hello,

I'm coming to Bali soon and wondering if this guide still is correct on how to activate 3g on the TelkomSel simPATI sim card:

Also I'll be in Ubud for a couple months, is TelkomSel service good there?

There are a few different options and one company may work better than another depending on your specific location. Best to ask people around where you will be living as to which company is best. The packet the SIM card usually comes in has instructions or just ask the people in the shop to help set it up.

My guess is that those instructions may still work. But the post looks old. Mostly people get the place selling you the SIM to help you get started, and few people would follow through this stuff for themselves.

On the question of Telkomsel vs the others - Telkomsel have the best coverage if you plan to move around Indonesia. Some companies (like XL I think) don't cover Flores at all. But if you are big on downloading, Telkomsel has the most expensive rates while Smartfren has the cheapest download rates - but their service can be flakey.

I wouldn't recommend using Telkomsel in Ubud, my blackberry only works half of the time in Ubud, I think they sells more than what they can support here.:miserable:

Use XL or IM3 instead in my personal opinion, I'm stuck with Telkomsel because I don't want to change my number, but if you are new, better use XL or IM3 Indosat:icon_e_ugeek:

Thanks everyone... XL seems to have better or similar reviews for Ubud, might just go with them. I assume that I can just have the guy that sells me my SIM help me get 3g activated...
