    Good bars in Sanur

Hadn't realized the Madurese were cooking the Padang. I remember the rendang as being fairly spicy, though my taste buds have gotten so enured to chilli heat over the years that, unless my nose starts running, I can't tell if the food is hot or not. Have served Rendang to friends in the U.S...

    Good bars in Sanur

Dasha, Will write down on my places-to-visit list that I have to find the Yamaha turnoff sign and then spend some time wandering around to see which places are open at 9 a.m. Tintin spoke of another place being too "sanitized" and I'm sure I ate in tons of restaurants like that last time in...

    Good bars in Sanur

Okay everyone, where's the Yamaha sign turnoff Dasha mentioned? That's the sort of thing I didn't pay attention to last time in Sanur. Anybody out there who can come up with a name for this place serving refreshments at 9 a.m.?

    Mobile phones in Bali

Sanurian, If I had my druthers the stay would be 3 years, not 3 weeks. The main reason to get mobiles for everyone is so the six of us can split into smaller groups and do our own thing, yet be able to coordinate meeting up, etc. The teens are one of each - 16 y.o. boy and 14 y.o. girl. We...

    Mobile phones in Bali

Dasha, Thanks to all for the good advice. I did some investigating and will definitely take Freo's advice. It's too cheap and easy to pass up. Will take Froggy's advice to buy minutes from the indosat places... Since moving to the UAE I've learned to SMS ("text" in the U.S.) and the two...

    Good bars in Sanur

Balined, Saw your question and did a quick Google search of "Sports bars in Bali". One post that came up was this: "Double D: A cool sports bar in Legian Jl. Legian. Double D has a streetside bar and restaurant. It's located next to Star Surf, is open 24 hours and is popular with...

    Good bars in Sanur

Well, this old bird likes to play it safe. So, If Kalimantan has feathered birds then I'm happy to go there. It sounds better and better.

    Good bars in Sanur

tintin, I have made a note. Kalimantan sounds like a great place to go since we're going to need a place to unwind. What "birds" are you referring to when you mention "... in the company of many birds." I'm really looking forward to this trip!

    Good bars in Sanur

Sanurian, Hey, Austrian's much better than German! My mother was Viennese so I can appreciate the difference. We're a casual group so want a casual place with laid-back company. Free billiards is GOOD, live band too as long as music's not too loud. I don't suppose our husbands would care...

    Good bars in Sanur

Thought I'd better post my query in a new Topic since my last query was so off the subject, nobody'd see it. We're gonna be in Sanur in July and want to know from the experts where the best places are to do some adult partying. (As in, yes we drink, but not into stupors - and we don't want...

    Places for Teens to Party

RE: Mobile phones in Bali On a completely different subject, does anyone know of any places for the two teens to party where we adults wouldn't be worried about them. Not that we wouldn't worry anyway...that's what mothers do, but we'd prefer they didn't have quite so much fun in Bali as we...

    Mobile phones in Bali

Thanks! I think you're right about the unlocking of the phone, though I'd forgotten. When I got to the UAE with my U.S. bought mobile, I had to contact the old provider to get them to unlock the phone. I will make sure my sister gets her phones "unlocked".

    Mobile phones in Bali

Expat Experts, Am visiting Bali for three weeks in July (coming from Abu Dhabi) and my sister and her family are coming in from the States. We're going to have six of us wandering around the island pursuing various interests but will want to be able to stay in touch via cell phones...

    Greetings from Abu Dhabi

Allan, Have been away so did not check emails. The mushroom omelet story revolves around Kuta in the 70's when there was only a handful of hotels and hawkers on Kuta Beach and Sanur and Jimbaran were little villages. We kids all attended the same international school in Jakarta and word...

    Greetings from Abu Dhabi

Tina, there was a time when smoking clove cigarettes was very dangerous - to clothes, hair, furniture, etc. When I lived in Jakarta all those years ago we smoked Gudang Garums (the best, I think) and the huge chunks of cloves in the cigarettes would very often "pop" when they burned and send a...

    Greetings from Abu Dhabi

You're right, I think. When I was there in December it seemed everyone was smoking but not too many clove cigarettes. Even I was guilty! Bought one pack of Djarums for a one week trip and stuck to Marlboros for the rest of the time.

    Greetings from Abu Dhabi

Hello all, and thanks for all your greetings and replies to various questions arising from my posts. Y'all seem like a friendly bunch and I sure wish I were in Bali. I'm really not a desert type of person. Will keep viewing posts and see what I can learn from the forum though, learning...
