Missus went to Singapore day before yesterday on the usual visa run and found that her Iphone 4s would only receive SMS messages but could neither send any or phone anyone. She has XL as a supplier here in Bali and the minute she was back the thing worked again. She took her phone to a local Apple shop in Singapore but nobody seemed to have a clue what or how or why there either.

Any ideas?

The Apple shop probably wouldn't have a clue, they just sell boxes.
The real magic happens with one of the 3 service providers, or in your wife's case, not.

My guess is that whoever your contract is with in Indonesia doesn't have a deal whereby the Singaporean company can extract huge overseas fees from you for a simple phone call.
I have had a similar situation in Germany, where SMS would get through but calls wouldn't.

Which network was she connecting to? Did she try changing the network?
If this is a regular jaunt to Sg, consider a prepaid sim from any little sundry store.

Being the all-knowing master of technology that I am I checked her phone myself today and the most wonderful of women only had fecking IDR 82 credit on the phone...

She spent at least 3 hours in Singapore searching out specialists in Iphone science/witchcraft (my preciiiiiouuuuss).

Kinda makes you wonder about the human race don't it? Maybe we should give it all back to the Dodos.

It was actually Apple Shop(s) - not just one.

As a firm believer in feminine equal rights she has her own money, which I don't get involved with. Sadly the reverse isn't true.
