Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone can give me any up to date info on Garuda? I have recently returned from my latest trip to Bali and was told back in Australia that Garuda was going to cancel there direct flights to Bali from Bribane. I have contacted a number of travel agents over here and they dont seem to know what Garuda are doing. One travel agent seemed to think that Garuda was reconsidering there decision. Any info would be much appreciated.

On their internet site:

GARUDA STILL OPERATING INTERNATIONAL SERVICE TO BALI
Garuda will not cease its international flight service to Bali; on the contrary the airline is currently considering the possibility of broadening its network hence offering a wider range of options to suit the individual needs of its passengers; flying direct to Bali for leisure travelers; and direct to Jakarta for passengers traveling for business purposes.

Don't worry...as far as I know, Garuda's plans to stop their international hub in Bali have been cancelled. It's back to the status quo.

Not only that, I just read that they're even going to increase their flights from the Bali hub. It'll probably take some time for precise details to trickle through to travel agents around the world.

:)

According to reports Garuda is now extending their FF membership to Australians flying with them internationally.
Report was in Djarkata Post today.
If it is correct then they should attract more passengers as the points/milage appears very generous.
Commences 1/12/06

cheers

Just rang Garuda here in oz to enquire about making a booking to fly to Bali from Brisbane in the new year. They told me the last direct flights from Brisbane to Bali will be on the 13th of Jan 07. No more after that date. This is getting very frustrating. Apparently they have already cancelled the New Zealand leg of the trip which goes through Brisbane. Tina, can you post that number for Nikki Lawson again as your last post seemed to be one number short. Thanks.

Hi manc in oz, we are having difficulty too. We gave up on finding something from Brisbane direct as we are travelling for a month from late Jan early Feb 2007. Thought we had it sorted on the weekend (via Darwin) but when we went back to pay yesterday the story had changed again, but this time it was a problem with the domestic flights!
:(

We're now back to square 1 and trying to get something organised from Brisbane via Sydney, but not including the Melbourne leg of the journey. HOWEVER, they can get us to Bali that way but not back again without extra $$$ I would happily just stay but we need to come back to Oz to finalise all our move details. Definitely frustrating, as you said.

Thank you Tina for the phone number and email, I'll get in touch tomorrow and see Nicki can help us.

Cheers,
Shaz

Hi steffandshaz, I just got some info that might interest you. Flight Centre are advertising flights to Bali via Sydney for $1,115 inc taxes. I think its with Qantas. If you ring 55759133 and ask for Simon he will take care of you.

Hi manc in oz, we had a field day on Friday trying to get things sorted. We booked some flights through Flight Centre in Brisbane as we have dealt with them in the past. However late in the afternoon Garuda called the Agent and advised they'd overbooked all flights in late January and they offered other flights that weren't suitable to us. After a lot of negotiation we finally fixed flights for 03Feb to 02Mar on Garuda (Sydney-Denpasar-Sydney) with domestic links (Brisbane-Sydney-Brisbane) with Qantas.

We could easily have got the dates we originally wanted if we were willing to add a Melbourne stop to our trip! We saw that as a pointless exercise that simply adds travelling time.

We're booked now, that's the main thing. Hope you had some luck with your dealings :)

Hello,

I have been off this forum for sometime. I find it interesting to note that flights are "mysteriously" changing to Bali. My sons (who are half Balinese) went to Bali from Hawaii in late Aug.-early Sept. and we paid about $1000US for RT. My oldest son, Wayan, noted that in the Honolulu airport, the only travel warnings posted are to Bali. Just last week, we were contemplating a return trip to Bali, and I have gone online to check, even as far ahead as April, and the flights are now over $2000US, even in the off season!

Seems as if there is something afoot with Americans traveling to Bali. Even China Air, which has always offered the cheapest flights, now doesn't even offer any flights there!

Anyway, I would like to spend more time on this forum, near and dear to my heart is Bali, but alas, American life calls, and I must answer! Aloha, Namaste, and Salamat Malam!

Hi truth sayer, we have a problem in Australia with flights to Bali because Garuda withdrew a lot of their services. Instead of simply cutting back on the number of flights out of Brisbane, they've been removed from the schedules altogether.

As far as I'm aware the New Zealand Garuda flights have also been cancelled entirely. We used to catch the Auckland-Brisbane-Denpasar service but that has been ceased and nobody can determine if it is going to be reinstated by the airline or not.

In Brisbane we are now reduced to flying domestic to another major city in Australia to then travel to Bali, and those are not always going to be direct flights either. Domestic flights in Australia are rediculously expensive so it is an inconvenience to more than just our time.

Australians, in particular Queenslanders and their travel agents, are screaming for more flights to Bali with no relief in sight...a bit sad really. :(
