Careful. In my book, that's not a convincing argument. It's kind of a mob law. If this type of governance was valid, civil rights in the USA would still be a dream.
Yes, I understand this. This certainly wasn't the only basis behind my decision. I would hope it's for more than just a select group(s), there are plenty of members who don't live in Bali, nor do they want to, just love staying there
Sure, I agree. The forum is for anyone interested in Bali, but not for people just looking to attack this site and its members. Someone actually suggested expanding the travel section to attract more members.

Been offline for a couple of weeks and have only just noticed the bambang saga.I've been suss on the guy/s for quite a while. Multiple personalities. Bad manners. Arrogance beyond comprehension. Remind you of somebody or what???????  :?: Am I alone in my thinking or pretty close to the target??????Adz
If you mean the BIG R, no he has found a new outlet.  http://www.helenflavelfoundation.org/forum/index.php

Bolli,Yep, thats what I meant  . I'll bet London to a brick that's who 'Bambang' is, or was. Along with, quite possibly, a couple of other aliases......

Hi AdamBolli,Yep, thats what I meant  . I'll bet London to a brick that's who 'Bambang' is, or was.Along with, quite possibly, a couple of other aliases......
If you guys are suggesting "Bambang" is/was The BigR, I beg to differ. The writing style doesn't quite click with me and although The Big R did stoop, at times in the past, to nefariously aggressive attacks on posters, his grasp of the English language was way better. Unless, of course, he's deteriorated lately. Looking at his posts regarding Balinese culture on the Helen Flavell site should put paid to that. He's still being an arbiter with respect to his experiences in Bali and his interpretations of its culture based on his 13 years here, so far.The BigR's personal insights, and passion to correct the mistaken perceptions of newbie expats about this island ranged between blatant bullying and true inspiration. Stepping over his line meant you didn't agree with him, so you became instant cannon fodder, or worse.Actually, I miss him. I've had numerous altercations with him in the past, both in this forum and privately. The amount of good stuff he posted here was awesome. On to another point."Aliases". Or "multiple aliases".Isn't a significant part of participating on the world wide web shrouded in hiding one's real identity? For many obvious reasons, not the least of which is "security".Ardent WWW surfers/users have many "identities", all over the place. I am a member of many internet forums ranging from technical computer-related stuff to various travel/expat ones.Having more than one "identity", to me, is not something shameful. It gives us the opportunity to "be" somebody else for a moment or two in the virtual world. Just like changing which shirt you're going to wear this morning. Sometimes, it can make things more interesting. However, I would never set up an identity anywhere to post stuff, start an argument and reply to myself. But I'm sure some people do exactly that. Some years ago I did transgress my own rules, a little bit. An Australian friend living up in Ubud was trying to promote his "Learn To Surf" package. From Ubud? A long way from any real "surf".I wanted to help him and this is what I did then, (many years ago).Posted a question in some travel forum, (not this one), asking where can I learn to surf?I answered it myself saying try this guy in Ubud.A bunch of Swedish girls signed up as a result. I still find it hard to believe, but it's true.Be very careful about anything you do on the internet. It's not always what it seems. 8)

I also do not think bambangalang or whoever, is the BigR and have said often here that I actually miss his (RT's ) debates, ramblings, meglomania, delusions and so on and so on.. He kept things running, there's no disputing that.

One real way to find out. Bambang says he is Indonesian, and Roy says that he cannot really speak Bahasa Indonesia (despite 13 years living in the country). If anyone really cares to find out either way, figure out how to contact Bambang and strike up a conversation in Bahasa Indonesia.

Hi JC,Yep, thats what I was suggesting, but I think your far better qualified to analyse what might be going on inside this persons head than me, so I'll take your word for it. The writing style was, yes, quite basic but I just detected the underlying attitude to be somewhat reminiscent. It's easy to 'dumb down' ones writing and when the tone turned from disagreement to personal threats, I just thought here we go again....I picked up on one of Bambangs comments seem to be shared by 'Balieye' and 'quixis' from RT's blog, deadbeat characters who I may have wrongly attributed to the author of said blog. I too do miss RT's input, his passion for Bali is 2nd to none, but when one stoops to personal threats well thats the act of a bully and has no place on the net or in normal society. You have to weigh up the good bits with the bad bits and towards the end, the bad bits well and truly came out on top. Further, while it was nice to see a bit of spice added to debates he could quite easily drown out an intelligent but long winded discussion with his 'cultural cuckoo' bombardment that really had you questioning if we might be 'a few sheep short of a top paddock' and reality was going to be the loser. Take a look at his blog and the pieces of an unwell person start to fit together. And on aliases, I agree with you that it may be prudent to conceal ones identity to a certain point, but having multiple identities with different personalities at the same time, especially on a discussion forum, is downright effing odd IMHO. I try and convey my own thoughts and opinions and character as honestly as I can so I can contribute as honestly, sincerely and constructively as possible to whatever the discussion/cause. Trying to hide behind the cloak of invisibilty of multiple pseudonym's with multiple characters is fantasyland stuff and not helpful to important or intelligent discussion. I have enough trouble making sense of my own stupid thoughts without conjuring up a whole new person as well :D . Regards  Adam

Bambangs comments seem to be shared by 'Balieye'
wholly cr*p....now that's a 'eye'-opener, if you know what I'm saying. sometimes with all those identities 1+1= 1

"Identity", like "Love", is in the eyes of the beholder. The "beholder" could be your loved one, or your bank, credit card company, police, etc. Even then it could be nebulous, unless your door is being broken down and somebody wants to arrest you. The uncertainty becomes much clearer then...We've all heard of "bad hair days".Assuming various internet "identities" is a bit like acting in a movie.Perhaps practicing for the day when the whole world is a stage and we are all actors. Maybe that day arrived a long time ago.The world wide wait has opened up a bigger stage than was previously possible. Making up "characters" is part of the creative process. The only potential or "real" harm, as I see it, is when people start believing they are their creations and start talking to and answering themselves. And of course, stealing peoples' identities is not on.Always be careful how much credence you give your fellow actors. Even some of the ones you think you "know".Now...who wrote this, exactly?

If anyone here is a member of the Indonesia expat forum, they will have noticed recently a member there was banned recently. Actually multiple usernames, but more than likely the same person, with a very similar style of writing to a recently banned member here.

Now...who wrote this, exactly?
Do you really want us to guess? Though it now seems very obvious by posts from you and your mate Dasha. - You were very hostile back when you first used this name and it was suggested that it was Sanurian/Phil.....

Keep on guessing. Our current Admin says:If anyone here is a member of the Indonesia expat forum, they will have noticed recently a member there was banned recently. Actually multiple usernames, but more than likely the same person, with a very similar style of writing to a recently banned member here.
Now, I haven't read the "forum rules" here for a long time. Has anybody? With respect to multiple user names, I checked with the former owner of this site and he categorically stated there was no rule against that! Have as many as you want, in other words. But of course, don't use them in nefarious ways. Most expats actually living in Bali can meet me face-to-face anytime they want. It ain't that hard. Physical meetings like that add can a different dimension to things.I'm a bit tired right now. Just came home from a tooth-filing ceremony and nearly drowned because the rain flooded the venue. The rain was more than welcome, but sitting around in six inches of discoloured water with god knows what in it, wasn't all that pleasant. The beautiful and handsome tooth-filing recipients, (six young ladies and two young men), more than made up for getting wet and nearly getting flushed away down another clogged, semi-urban Balinese drainage system.Nobody should take the internet too seriously. Have fun with it, enjoy and try not to get bogged down in trivia. :D

Johnny Cool, that was hilarious. I pictured you clear as a bell, drowning in all that clear water. What a sight for sore eyes. :(

johnny cool is sanurian right?
That's absolutely impossible as Sanurian left the forum some time ago insisting he had had enough and would never, ever be coming back - then took his ball and went home, slamming the door (loudly) behind him. So you see Sanurian, being a proud and principled man would never, ever, ever consider for a minute coming back even in hiding, as it were...Now would he?
