Very well said BaliLife.Americans had mountains of sleaze, bile and vitriol thrown at them in this election and the last couple and most of them raised an almighty finger at the bullshit this time and said we want no more. No more swift boating, no more slurs about past associations, or crap about birth certificates...none of that mattered, and neither should it have and it all belittled both the USA and the philosophy if those that created that nation. The people have spoken and rather decisively. A momentus day that most of us, American or not, will remember for the rest of our lives. An American friend rang from an expat party in Shangahi and said the place had been in tears..joyous ones. A young Chinese guy walked up to him at the end and said "thank you, thank you". That feeling, I think was echoed all around the world.Time to leave it behind and move on.

Here's what I would do on the first day in the oval office.I'd immediately publish and send the forward the appropriate bills to:1. Legalize gay marriage, nationwide - disallowing any states to overrule such. This is a basic human right to which everybody should have access to.2. Withdraw all troops from Iraq within 12 weeks. This was an illegal war and you can't stop committing a crime too soon.3. Immediately arrange a meeting with the leaders of Iran - acknowledge that the actions of the CIA during 1953 to overthrow MM led to the rise of a brutal dictator, the Shah. Make it clear that animosity no longer needs to be a factor in US-Iran relations and that the US wishes to have a peaceful relationship with Iran. Allow an Iranian consulte in the US and set one up in Iran. Arrogance has not benefitted anyone.4. Demand the removal of Israels illegal settlements from the West Bank - you can't have international peace without this.5. Implement Warren Buffets coupon trade system to immediately address the massive trade deficit.3 and 4 alone will end the threat of islamic terror as we know it.And then obviously he has a whole host of other issues he'll want to tackle.Ct

Firstly Balilife,You're a toad for mentioning his skin color and using profanity, all while accusing me of being a racist. Being the first black president isn't enough, he really hasn't brought anything else to the table besides the "change" mantra. If Colin Powell had thrown his hat into the ring, I would have jumped right on the bandwagon because he has conservative values, his credentials, intelligence and leadership abilities are unquestionable.Obama is just another tax and spend jackass, pandering to the radical black agenda and ultimately controlled by the media giants who installed him. His lack of experience makes him the perfect figurehead stooge, stupid and easily taken advantage of by banksters and lobbyist's alike.Barackula can't wait to sink his teeth into the carotid arteries of the obtuse middle-classers, who ignorantly and in a state of delusion voted for him. He has an undeniable (and well-documented) lust for tax-payer dollars that needs to be constantly satiated. A true parasite in every respect.I'd be very surprised if he can manage to keep his puppeteer controlled paws off the first and second amendments. Finally leaving the Isralies high and dry, bringing the troops home, repealing the USA Patriot Act and imposing a ban on torturing suspected terrorist's doesn't require the skill of a tightrope walk over the grand canyon Chilli. As far as measuring and timetables go, you can start right away by seeing who he chooses to surround himself with while in the White House. I'll stand by my first post until Barry proves me wrong, at which point, I'll close my mouth around my hat and eat it.The Don
Roy
Personally Don, I'm delighted you are here and offering your views. Prior to this, we only had froggy to rely on for some real showing of the red neck...no offense froggy. :D Living in Bali affords me with an almost 100% redneck free environment, which I cherish deeply, but at the same time, it's nice to reminisce about the "old days" if for no other reason than to reaffirm why I am living here.
Sumatra
Hey Roy,That big red neck I'm sporting comes from hard work and some righteous anger generated by certain segments of society that won't get off of their lazy asses and work. They expect amnesty, entitlements and equal rights, all of which they're not willing to earn. There's no way anyone with properly firing neurons between their ears wants to support millions of shiftless deadbeats with their hands out. We're being forced to at the point of a gun.The best part of moving to Bali is not having to look at this mess or live in it anymore. Unfortunately, Bali may not be far enough, have you seen the exchange rate between the USD and Indo rupiah, I haven't seen that since shortly after Suharto bit the dust. This shit storm created by Bush and impossible to solve by either McCain or, Obama is washing up on shore over there faster than I thought it would. Hold on to your britches friend. The Don
tintin
You are indeed lucky, Roy, to be in Bali, if for no other reason than being in a-redneck-free environment. You should experience the anti-Obama venom presently being poured out on many US radios by the Rush Limbaugh and wannabes, of which Don is a small example.I thought Don had definitely crawled back under his rock. Do you remember that on Sun Oct 12, 2008 3:02 am, he wrote that he was just playing the devil's advocate, all of his delusional statements being made for the only purpose of generating some heat, and probing for "sane people" on this forum. He wrote, You're right you guys, I was just playing the devil's advocate. There really isn't anything going on here in the states, so a person gets bored and tries to spice things up a bit.Sorry to all those whom I've offended with my wicked game.I just wanted to grab hold of a few "hot button topics" write them up with some preposterous and unbelievable viewpoints and see what happened.Well everyone did what most sane people would do and properly lambasted me,thank god there are some sane souls left in this world.
He has just now showed himself for what he is: a liar. Otherwise, why would he be back with his same s**t? He just showed is true self (for the few of us who had not figured him out in the first place), that of a raving lunatic and a liar.
Roy
have you seen the exchange rate between the USD and Indo rupiah, I haven't seen that since shortly after Suharto bit the dust.
The IDR is still a LONG way from those days...and I remember them very well because it was right at the peak of that financial crisis that I bought my first house in Bunutan, and at rate of 17,325 IDR to the US dollar. Back then there weren't any 50K notes in circulation, so I had to pack suitcases full of 5, 10 and 20 thousand rupiah notes. It took the seller, now my brother in law, almost three hours to count the cash! :P We still laugh about that. Let's give Obama a chance, shall we? After all, the man has only been President Elect for less than 36 hours!

i think you more than proved any point i was trying to make don. the fact that you suffer so, fills my heart with jubilation. even more satisfying than watching the likes of you going through this painful period, is the knowledge that the majority of the US is finally free from mental oppressors such as rush limbaugh (as tintin raises), to whom you remain captive and ignorantly bliss  ct

Otherwise, why would he be back with his same s**t?
Ha, yes...according to Don my major crime a while back was that I supposedly read too much, and thus was a know it all. Blissful are the ignorant..but when you combine that with bigotry and hate it gets slightly more worrisome.

Well Guys and Gals, Hooooooooooray.......We all did it. A land slide!!!! 23 seats in the Congress and I believe 4 or 5 seats in the Senate. I am so proud of the United States of America; finally. And Roy, got to admit it was nice receiving the message from Obama before he gave his acceptance speech. Such class! :D I know it will be a difficult 4 years for him, but hey; if anyone can help heal this country after eight years of Bush, Obama is the man!!!! Transformation will ring in the new administration, and Sumatra you really sound pesimistic. Let's all pray that his choices will be as flawless as his campaign. Nevertheless, as he said in his speech, "their will be missteps". He is not God, yet I believe in my heart he is the best man in the world to get us out of this hell hole Bush has dug for not only America but the world. And, Balilife, "THANK YOU" FOR PRAYING. "Every little bit helps" as Obama said throughout his campaign. My oh my, your last comment regarding what Obama should zone in on, again, I am in total agreement with you. Unbelievable!

Don,try not to be so angry, i know we each have our own perception of life and our own issues in life too.You sound like youve been very hard done by in some way.Why not focus on your new future, the future when you and your family finally get to live in Indonesia and then, count your blessings for this.If you are always on the attack, you end up feeling somewhat isolated. I understand that you are defending what your principles are. Its okay, we are all one people in the end. one heart beat..sorry if i sound like i am lecturing you, its not my intention to do so, but lets just try to enjoy, okay,, lets all try to agree to disagree. (we are living in very interesting times for sure).

Absolutely none... I don't think your question really needs answering - I don't think an italicised term in the context it was used needs to be taken too literally. To everyone else (besides mr whacko here) - I think we're really going to see the true brilliance of Obama in the coming weeks. If one thing's for sure, his staffing will be based on calm, rational and goal oriented methadologies.. I like his first 2 picks.. Rahm was a fantastic pick - and I think we can count on an equally impressive group joining him. Unlike Bush, he won't surround himself with yes-men to massage his ego.. He'll pick the best, people of intellect and integrity.. That's how he picked Biden and that's how he'll pick the rest..In an analysis of conservatives by conservatives tonight, I noticed one of their own prominent figures said, "I think we, Republicans need to stop telling people what they should do in their bedrooms and their homes and start focusing on governing the nation in a way that doesn't divide based on ones own personal beliefs. The 'morality' farse is over - it didn't work".. Thank christ they've figured that out - or at least one of them has..Ct

Balilife,Obama doesn't need his ego massaged, that's for sure. He needs someone to stick a pin in his head and deflate it a little. Who could that be? Medvedev perhaps? Maybe Putin will come out of retirement to have a go at him?One thing is for sure, the exhalted one will be washing someone's dirty socks pretty soon. I grew up during the cold war, with the fear of the bomb. It's an absolute certainty the Russians can smell blood in the water and the source of that blood is the bleeding heart of liberal Obama.Chilli, why do you assume that someone has done me such a terrible wrong? Maybe I'm just sick and tired of being forced through taxation to pay for social programs that don't work and never have. I plead my case with passion and I've been much less profane and vulgar than other forum members, whatever I've written can't be entirely categorized as an attack aye, in most instances I've only been defending myself from attack.I can only surmise that my words are stroking a raw nerve with certain socialist leaning members, who realize deep within their souls, that I hit the nail on the head more often than I miss. This is the real reason I'm branded Mr. Whacko and told to eat s#%!, feelings of insecurity in one's political philosphies can cause them to become quite aggressive and utilize a caustic verbiage, quite far below their ability to communicate in a sophisticated manner when challenged. The Don :)
