Hi Macupblue Thought you would say that. Hence the move to Mac for me.Moving to Bali.. Expect much slower speed as my partners and I are dealing with currently. No Yahoo or Skype live on telly as a result. That's ok cos we just signed a deal with our local phone carrier Telstra with a capped $2.55 AUD unlimited phone call. . Pretty cheap huh?Paid $170.00AUD for a ten minute one with our old carrier Optusnet . Could not believe my eyes when the admin showed me the bill in Feb2007. I'm not good at the finer details but that one made me think about my options on international.Allan Yes perfect conditions for a day in the greatest place on earth our very own Bot gardens. Like heaven isn't it. GP was exciting too .. nearly fell of me weelie bin.The Indo tech thing. Was very very very fortunate to meet a 24 YO software writer / wiz cool kid in January this year on our island in the Gillis. This young man inspired me to get out and form a company with 24 other Indonesian based Harvard grads engineers and programmers to come up with something missing in what we do. You would not believe the difference in cost and the dedication that these young people bring to a task and made it quite clear when they locked me up in the Novotel in Solo for 5 days for 64 questions 2 weeks ago.As a result I leave for Dallas Texas this Saturday to put together part 2 of the scheme with other great people in the world such as Intel, Texas Instruments, Motorola, Symbol, Com Cam among others. Not sure what you are doing mate but these guys are the so committed to a project and I for one am moving as fast as I can just to stay in front of them.Ever heard the one about the Lion and the Gazelle? This young partner asks me all the time which one I am. And I often wonder.Cheers

Well I gave up the ghost Norton Ghost that is and restored windows xp. After a week of trying even my IT manager has gone back to xp. Vista the world is not yet ready for you :-)

Hey Dasha,I went back to using Macs in January, although I still have four Windows machines that I use for work. I've found the Mac to be a reliable as I remembered it being, but getting software in Indonesia is a bit of a problem.

Gotta tell you I was a non believer on the level of education standards when told mid Feb 2007.So I made the effort to go and check it out myself 3 weeks ago to see if it were true. What really made me sure, of what I was seeing, was a completely independent guy form the Philippines staying with us at the Novotel (a physically challenged guy) and his Canadian partner who are the trainers of the trainers who teach the very wealthy textile and furniture producers in Central Java. Not that I particularly liked many of the people they were teaching as they were all obviously in it for the money and some very bad ideas about how you treat your fellow man in these factories. Including some Queenslanders who had no respect for the culture and the people they were employing/exploiting to produce the stuff that makes them rich.I won't get started on how much these guys pissed me off. But the teachers of the teachers had very good intentions and also had a great knowledge of the how the world works. And also had vast experience in IT in particular and managed to scope our my partner / our crew and tell me that we were on a winner not only cos the team we have assembled are well educated but how we (my wife and I / biz partner) intend to lift their level of well being with our future earnings. We were chuffed. Can't reveal too much at this stage Allan as we are meeting with the people at Minter Ellison tomorrow in Melbourne to go over the complete deal. Not only for the Indonesian people but for the Americans who supply this great technology. And this technology has been around for only several years in our industry but it is only now that the application is ready to be fully understood and integrated in just about anything as we have learned.Right place at the right time I suppose. And Greg Poche is a great example of this.Paul Little is another giant chewing up Asia after trailblazing Chris Corrigan late last year with innovative technology and the ability to apply it effectively.Big Linz and his lovely wife Paula sat me down in his kitchen with my wife and son 4 weeks ago prior to leaving and said son ... I can move 75000 items at 100 kms per hour under a reader and scope it in the blink of an eye. That might give you a clue as to what we are up to.Must catch up at the Gardens.Dasha

Ok Hardisk problem solved. Found various alternatives for playing Quicktime content which all work great under Vista (even the HighDef QT trailers play under Windows Media Player now), QT panoramas work better with DevalVR (Hardware accelerated).Found all kind of interesting codecs that work nicely with my Sony HD camera... Especially with the faster processor watching and editing HD is nice.Vista is now very stable, and does everything I need, now is the time to get a bit deeper into making use of all the new features. For all you Apple fans :http://www.appledefects.com/wiki/index. ... =Main_Page

After 2 weeks of trials here at the office, not that i needed that much time cos on the 1st day I went "wow"... MACS RULE, and are here to stay. Thank GOD I finally woke up after 17 years. Anyone considering switching from a PC at this point in your life, before you need rescuing from watching THAT SCREEN with yet another big MS bungle (vista) ... let me put it this way , it is like stepping out of a horse and cart and into a Bobardier Lear Jet ( I was gunna say Ferrari but that would not do the story justice) And so say all the staff.

Yeah I agree Dasha,I'm trying to convince the school to move from windows to macs. I just returned from a conference in Bangkok, and one after another of the presenters just happened to have macbooks that they were using for their presentations.
macupblue
Hallo AllanYes you are right, arount 2,5 maybe 3% now.But it means also 80% by Grafik Industry Fotografers,Designer,Artists.Without Mac you are a dead man by these busines.(I talk about Europa,I dont knew Asia)One of the moast importent part are the inpatient fonts between Mac and Microsoft. Also real plug and play. With Mac you can not choose 100 of different Grafikcards ect ect. The best is alrady inside :-) For Mac are also not many Games availabel. I think the last was Myst+ Riven. So why Millions of Kids schould pay for a Mac. No Wargames no Carrace.....We are different :-)
Jimbo
Amusing :-)
Dasha
You are dead right Allan. This You Tube vision speaks volumes. PC's rule... no question.. I now understand why PC's are so far superior!Macupblue ... ssssshhhhh.. Not so loud. Let's keep this one under the radar to less than 2%.... at least for the virus sake.Doc .. Keep up the good work old boy - you are definetly heading in the right direction when it comes to kids (especially in Indo keep pushi'n buddy at those conferences) and education on mass in general - I just wish someone hada told me about the best kept secret for so long - a long time ago.Rock on witda Mac

Macs are still ruling down here in the office .Although I gotta admit the Photoshop CS2 V9 seems to manage things easier in a Microsoft environment as opposed to the Mac on a 24 inch screen for some reason. You would think the opposite for those users in multi media. Some of the files also seem to be easier to manage on a PC than the Mac as it is probably due to the years of seeing them as a yellow folder in order and in a perfect line. Maybe I need to get used to the folders floating around when in the Mac environment. One thing I have found (and some of my staff) if you have not got your files on a Mac in "straight order" as opposed to floating then you can think the file is not there - when in fact it is!! Danger park ranger cos the job you are supposed to do there that day does not happen.RESULT - client rings and says where is the truck? OOPs maybe it was the Mac's fault. Won't do buddy ... get the truck and crew here now!!!Sitting with ITunes running/syncing/burning(toast titanium).. old Joe Walsh blazing at the moment, I Photo managing stuff I should be working on and being distracted by, talking/visual on IChat - that's where I think it makes up for it. All the Word Excell and Outlook stuff being managed as well but you gotta remember so many things about what's going on in general with the new Quad Xeon 64 workstation being the heart of it. Remote server ... I'm now loving that. How's things going with Vista Bert?
Dasha
vista not happening aye? probably the same reason that freedom of speech ain't happening with you and Al I guess.

If you have a point to make please do so in a respectful and eloquent manner.
AllanThis is Dasha. I do not think eloquent is an option :-) :-)

Vista is on DVD around Kuta these days...cracked they say. Interestingly only 1% of computers that visit the various sites I have access to the stats of have Vista. A wee bit of a turkey I'd say
Jimbo
SGProfits for Microsoft are up again because of Vista. It is a very nice interface or I should say will be when the rest of the software catches up with it. With Biill Gates shipping it on most new computers it will soon become the norm. For me I tried it and have decided like many others to wait but Bert seems happy enough with it.
SG
I agree it's being shipped on most new PCs (although Dell have now decided to offer XP again after some demand) but what is being noted on the tech blogs I look at is that there is little upgrade activity going on. Xp and Win98 both had a rush to upgrade but Vista has none of that going on. The only people buying Vista are getting it as OEM software on new PCs, and since most people don't update a PC every year, it spells very slow uptake. It seems corporates are holding off too

Bert Wondering how it is going with Vista. You said earlier that you had downloaded it but I have not heard how things are at present. As you may know I have started using IMac. But I have to tell you, I have had mixed results after 6 or so weeks. Particulary when I am using non multi media type applications and files.I am looking at trying out your 3D stuff can you tell me if I would be better to try it in a Mac or PC environment. If it is the latter should i perhaps install vista?Dasha
