Well, I am using Vista and can do my 3d stuff....I still have problems with the standalone version of Quicktime, because Apple afaik didn't update it yet for Vista, but I can see Quicktime Pano's on the web without problems. For viewing Stand alone Quicktime Panoramas there are other solutions, and they work fine. (Even better, with hardware acceleration of graphics)And I have some problems with Macromedia Director and Firefox, but it works ok in Internet explorer. (I use this for some of my pano's)I also carefully updated Vista with the necessary codecs for viewing all kind of multimedia (movies etc), also for those cool Quicktime HD trailers. :)My Vista is now fully HD capable, (various codecs) and perfectly suited for all kind of Panorama stuff, for creating as well as for viewing.I do have an ocassional quirk, but its very rare.

Hi SGI just took the time to have a look at one of the links you posted above from The Inquirer. This one:http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=37721I'm not a VISTA basher, (not yet), but that article's still got me pissing myself with laughter. Absolutely brilliant. (I've read all kinds of things regarding VISTA for months - everything from the 'Myths About VISTA', 'One Hundred Things You Should Know About VISTA', etc,...the list is quite long.) I'm particularly fond of the reference to VISTA as Windows ME2. I don't know if VISTA is actually that bad, but you never know. Dell Computers rolling back to offering new customers XP. Something about sheep. Windows Advantage something or other. On a more serious note, (in case some 'moderators' here think this post is a form of gonzo journalism), I see no reason why anybody should jump into VISTA at this early stage. Apart, of course, from those who want to be at the cutting edge of a new operating system. Another 6-12 months should make it much clearer just how many 'security up-dates' and 'patches' people need.I used to think 'Aero" was a kind of chocolate bar, with lots of holes in it.Good luck to the brave. Without them, some of us might still be battling with ME 1. (Remember Windows For Work Groups? Or, perish the thought, Windows 3.1?)The next lines are especially for DASHA:Avoid VISTA like the plague, for the moment. Be patient. See what happens next. (Are you still 'suspended' here, or what?) HUGE waves in Bali lately - unusually high tides/swells, whatever. Up to 5 metres in Kuta - one guy reckoned 7 metres but I think he was on mushrooms - the water reached the main road a few times.) Bet you wish you were here...

I see no reason why anybody should jump into VISTA at this early stage.
Yes I agree. It can take quite some time before everything is working fine. But I wouldn't go back to XP. Vista is fine for me, can do all I need.Aero is nice, but I must say I have been drooling at an Imac 20 inch....The Imac had even XP installed on the side :)
drbruce
I have an IMac 20 inch, Bert, and it's great. I could have had Windows installed on it, but I passed as I have another machine that I use for Windows - no sense messing up my Mac by putting Windows on it.Waves.We had big ones here as well. Reached the road down in the beach area. What's that all about?
FreoGirl
Waves - I read one news report that said it was caused by a big storm system in the Indian Ocean, plus a combination of large tides. Another news report blamed the sun and moon aligning - not sure about that one.

Bert might wait until I get over there to take a look at Vista as you are probably the only person I know who to date has it running stable. If anything I will load it up on my trusty Toshiba Portege "mini me" notebook. It has all my other MM software for the Canon for the 3D and can take a beating if things get outa hand.As I mentioned on the weekend I didn't end up getting the 8mm fisheye (a bit exey aren't they?) and got the Sigma wide angle lens instead and have had some very good results with it since Saturday morning. 500 odd shots with the EOS 30D till Sunday night. The guys at both the camera shops in Swanston st Melbourne had very little knowledge with the panorama heads so as you said I might have to order one when in town in a few weeks. Looking at Damai Lovina Villas for an overnighter at the moment .. any good? Will download the PTQUi over here and cos it's a PC (notebook) and I will get the panoZqtvr as well to make it all happen as long as I can borrow the fish eye??? Keep drooling on the 20 inch but consider a couple of 100 bucks more BV for the 24 inch like the one I am using here and you will be dribbling as I often do on this mouse pad. If you've got room for a car in the office you will have your very own drive in.Sanurian - yes I'm back and keeping out of mischief and you are very correct the west coast at my fave break Padang Padang has been taking a pounding as I log into http://www.baliwaves.com/ on an hourly basis when it is happening. And it has been happening with some young Japanese honeymooners venturing out to theirs deaths (1 found at Medewi recently) into some of the most unforgiving waters on this planet. Looks easy ... but it is not .. take a look at the recently updated footage by Slim and the boys at BW.comHave had 5 to 6 meters at your local home break Phil - Serangan but a little doubtful on 7 M at Kuta - I think you are right ..the last mushie might have overdone it on that tale!Freo that news report may have had something to do with the guy that Phil met with a liking for locally grown/produced ground produce. The sun and the moon aligning are also factors that he may have had happening as he sounds like another astronaut of inner space, one meets on their rounds late in the evening in downtown Kuta. There is an old wives tale regarding planets / tidal movement etc etc about how swell is created. My tip....the bit about the big storm is probably the cause.Cheers

24 inch is nice. I have one :)Sure you can borrow my 8mm.But you will need to get one !

ocal press reports state that the unusually high waves and ocean swell hit their peak on Friday, May 18, 2007, and were worst felt in Bali along the beaches at Kuta, Jimbaran, Kuta, Sanur and Tanah Lot. The popular Kedonganan seafood dining area, near Jimbaran, sustained damage to locally-owned restaurants when the waves came ashore and swept into at least 4 local dining places. At least 2 homes and tens of local fishing boats also suffered significant damage. Meanwhile, visitors to Bali's famous Pura Tanah Lot at Jimbaran witnessed huge waves breaking over the temple, located in the ocean a short distance off the shore line.A natural phenomenon, the waves measuring as high as 4-5 meters along Bali's coast were blamed by Indonesian officials of the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG) on a the celestial alignment of the sun and moon resulting in unusually high tides working in concert with strong off-shore winds and were expected to last for only 3-4 days.Looks like you were right Freo but I think the weather down south has a bit of input also.

BertThis 10-20mm Sigma lens is now rocking. Just got back from a trip up to a place called Tolmie in our state of Victoria since last Thursday (it's Sundy). This place was ravaged by fire for 69 days earlier this year - and now they are getting back on their feet... so to speak. So you can imagine the subject matter for a lens man with the regrowth of their forest now that we have had a bita rain in this semi Alpine area. All the time I was thinking (as I blazed away with the EOS pumping 750 shots in 4 days) if only I had the 3D stuff for some of these burnt out forest shots. Some crazy chick took me in her airplane all the way from the burnt-out area across the forest, black as it was, from a place called Mansfield to Yarrawonga. Even in the plane I thought if I could do the 3D stuff, how good it would look.So I've decided to get the fisheye before arriving next week and get a head start on this learning curve. Any chance I can use those pano heads of yours (I have the other software on the notebook) incase I don't get a chance to purchase before arriving in Indo.PS Junior (No'1 Wazza) is coming in July and wants to know if you can order another 30D and send it to you. All prepaid of course we just wanna know if you were fairdinkum when you said it only take 4 days from Singapore?Dasha
Bert Vierstra
Singapore?Jakarta you mean? You want me to order 30D and then what?Yes you can borrow a panohead, while you are in Bali...
Dasha
Can we order it and pay for it when I get there late next week - so when Waz arrives in July he can come up to Singaraja and pick it up. He has got a sponsored person there also he needs to see. Two birds - one stoneOk?He was gunna buy the next Canon model down from mine before he left next month then I told him about the site you refered me to.
Bert Vierstra
Sure, I hope they have it in stock when you are here...
