I don’t understand why People can’t just state their opinion without insulting others? I’m glad at least now that the forum is running smoothly. Thank you administrators! I hope that members, and new comers start posting content that is relevant and refreshing. Things that concern us all.maybe it pertains to Bali, or other Asian countries, cooking, experiences traveling throughout Indonesia, or else where. It would be nice if we could post things that don’t relate to Politics, Religion, Sexual preferences, Etc! You know those topics that around the table at family gatherings that People always argue about!
Like haven’t you noticed it’s a very rainy Dry Season? I feel bad for the Tourists that are here now for a short Holiday! Oh well, it’s a good time to practice their Bahasa Indonesian, sitting around the tables, or Bars, waiting until the Sun shines! 👍✌️🙏🥳

Looks like the new airport is now a thing.

Or at least those in power will have us believe.

For the umpteenth time fortunately or not - depending upon whether you want one or not.

Personally I’m a bit ambivalent about the actual airport as long as it’s not near me, but I do find the endless jockeying for “who can sell the most worthless land to the property developers”? endlessly funny. I’ve now heard definitively, guaranteed, 100% for the forth time where it’s gonna be.

Won’t be holding my breath.

It’s gotten real quiet with the “new” capital on Kilimantan hasn’t it?!

Don’t expect anything to get completed here, without China or Russia footing the bill. And the Government wont even foot the bill to build a bypass, without the Chinese paying for that too, with it being a Toll road, where the Chinese pull in lots of Money from that. It’s all part of their Silk Road initiative, which really means they are just going to take over Countries without having a War!
They are already building these roads in Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and pulling in lots of money from it! Such a Sad day when the Chinese take in Money from the poor People of Indonesia! And you can be Damn sure the Indonesian politicians are going to fill their pockets from it also!
So while nothing gets done, the traffic will get so bad here, it will 3 or 4 hours to get from Ubud to Denpasar! And the Tourist will stop coming to the Island of the Money Grabbers! 🤑🥳🤦🤦🏾

It seems to work out for everyone with the Chinese foray into infrastructure building. China has a huge trading surplus with the world (US primarily) and the 3rd (developing?) world has a huge deficit in stuff they need to have built. Seems like a perfect fit to me. China gets preferential access to raw materials like America is demanding in the Ukraine and the EU is desperately trying to bargain its way into and Asia gets new roads, railways, dams and whatever else they want/need.

Problem with all this is if you look a little closer it all looks like Armageddon: US is 37 trillion in the hole, EU not far behind it. China is basically bankrupt with a laughable birthrate. So America can’t afford to buy any more stuff from China that can’t find the workers to make it anymore anyway. The EU with a population (also dropping like a rock) of ½ billion can’t manage to go mano mano with a poor country of 150 million called Russia with an economy smaller than Italy.

Balifrog Looks like to me Africa as a whole has been receiving a lot of aid that probably accounts for the low infant mortality rate. Aid appears to have increased 8 fold and the population has increased about 5 fold. An investment in cheap labor for the globalists.

Balifrog Geographically the statistics for Africa as a whole are impressive. One only needs to think of their car industry (none), world class medical companies (zero), their software companies (none), their high tech firms (none), their space industry (soon to land on Kilimanjaro), financial prowess (none), stable economies (also none), equal rights movements (none, again), success with combating corruption (you guessed it, none) to be terrified of them becoming the newest tiger on the world stage. What do you expect these billions of Africans to do? come up and cut our lawns to death?

Chris A it’s not about the cheap labour.
Look where a country like Mali or Congo was at the time of decolonization in the 60’s.
A functional education system, justice system, health care, infrastucture, roads, railways…
Look now 60 years later everything is broken, they have gone backwards.
Now compare that to Korea and Taiwan
In the 60’s Korea was completely destroyed, coming out of the Korean war. Look where they are now….
Taiwan in the 60’s was under the terrible dictatorial regime of Tchan Kai Chek, who had fled the mainland with his troops after being defeated by Mao in 1949, the country poor and agricultural. Look where they are now….

Balifrog I know, I worked 8 years in Angola and 12 years all told in Nigeria. There’s been very little progress since the end of colonization. Perhaps the Chinese can recolonize and do a better job. )))

A bit in the same vein, a lot of the guys I worked with in Nigeria spoke fondly of the period during military rule by Abacha and others. There was order and to some degree the rule of law. Nigeria is a complex place. Not only do they have tribalism working against them, but they also have quite a bit of friction between Christians and Muslims that is quickly hurdling toward genocide in the North. “Democracy” is not right for all countries.

Markit I think cutting off aid is the answer and letting the cards fall where they may. I know a couple that both work for the UN with the wife’s last last and what looks like final assignment was in Sudan. She finally had a nervous breakdown mainly because the hopelessness of it all after throwing millions of dollars at the problem with nothing ever getting better over decades. The husband’s current assignment is in Afghanistan and he was there during the US pullout and the re-rise of the Taliban. He had high hopes for improvement and I gave him shit from the very beginning that there was no way it would. I think maybe he has come to the same conclusion after some time.

If they get everything to start this project. That’s a Big If! Can you imagine the roads with tons of giant trucks hauling all the crap North to build this Monstrosity! Without a North, South Bypass first. Total Madness.
I went to Singakerta from Sembung today, and as we approached Singakerta, the traffic was so bad, it was bumper to bumper for over an hour just to go 3 kms! With all the Bali People Humping like Rabbits, and cranking out Babies by the dozens daily, and all of them buying bigger cars, and a motorbike for every kid, and all the Other Indonesian People coming here chasing Money, with an overabundance of Gojek, and Grab drivers, and everyone raising the prices daily, Soon the tourists are going stop coming to Bali! 🫵🤑🤪🤦🤦🏾😭🙏

Markit I’m sure there will be plenty of funds expended for conceptual design and front end engineering (wink-wink) that will be money well spent until the next time the project that always fails to grow legs get resurrected yet once again.

Shadrach the quarries are all here in Karangasem so then the trucks that block the roads going towards Dps will then block the roads going toward Singaraja.

PS the prognosis that tourism to Bali will stop soon has been going on since 1980 when it started.
