Markit the reason the BBC is no longer relevant plus the outcry to abolish the annual fee is because it is blatant hard left and it is pushing the agenda to people who pay a fee yearly ( no choice in the matter dont pay you go to court ) and the faces are becoming more coloured if allowed to say that in this day and age and is anti conservative to the core, look at the political programmes it hosts ? : Andrew Marr Show / Question Time / BBC NEWS 6am to 9.30 am uk time daily you will see the bias of hard left extremes, that is why the uk licence fee payers are are up in arms. The uk public voted by a huge maajority for a conservative goverment but the bbc are controlled by the unions which are equalty despised in the uk.

I have been watching BBC since I moved to the UK in 1971 and in retrospect it's not so much that the Beeb has changed it's that the world around it has. Anyone remember the Black and White Minstrel Show? Can you imagine anyone pitching that as an idea to the Beeb today? Or Benny Hill? Most of these old shows are still available on Youtube and have not stood the test of time well IMHO. As to the "Aunty's" news broadcasting ability I used to love The Nightly News with Jeremy Paxman(left years ago) who put the Rot into Rottweiler when it came to hard necked cross-examinations of politicians and other unwary newsmakers. And on the radio side John Humphreys has taken his style with him when he left early this year. My point is that the raft of new presenters are all trying mightily to fill 7 League Boots that they simply aren't able to in a world that has changed out of all recognition to that the Beeb was brought up on. Now every extremist can expect and find his very own news source that caters personally to his or her brand of insanity and therefore validates it - and therein lies the danger and difficulty for me and my search for some simple honest news. The BBC has recognized this and their thrashing about in search of a direction (Asian perspectives/Trans programing and programs/youth/oldies/etc. etc. etc.) has spoken to a very small minority but excluded the masses who have to pay too. Will not end well for the Beeb... pity really. If you want a laugh and to gauge the extreme left wing's views read the Guardian - only problem is it's almost entirely about America.

Yeah the Guardian and CNN blur the line between extremist leftist propaganda and parody news...it's honestly hard to tell the difference these days.

And most guests they invite on BBC progs: politics live/question time etc etc are hand picked left wingers but the majority of the licence payers are tory voters and the general election Dec 2019 made that point, and they are more liable to be working or Self Employed or business owners or put it mildly non ethnic spongers which have the lowest % the population in the UK but they are pampered to through the Human Rights agenda who was championed by no less than Labour elect prime minister Mr T Blair wife came up with all this bull and now renouce it was not meant to go this far ?. I understand the reason for his rant completely - after I've tried to find a "reasonable" source of unbiased information and worked my way through the NYT, Guardian, BBC, Aljazeeras, et al. without finding what I'm looking (not preconceptions, just unbiased info) I also start screaming at the walls and lose all sense of proportion and reality. It really comes down, in my case anyway, to the numbers of unattributed sources, unverified "facts", opinions stated as if they were facts and quotes from people that no one has ever heard of (me anyway) as if they were the font of all knowledge. I'm sick of it. I grew up with the idea that we should all give everyone the "benefit of the doubt" - meaning not have preconceptions, prejudices and an open mind for all things. In the mean time I've found that with advanced age I have loads of preconceptions and prejudices that have enabled me to live a full and happy life guarded and protected from the many traps life had laid for me by knowing in advance what some idiotic motherfucker was after just by the look of him! Be he black, green or orange. This may not fit in the modern pc world but they'll learn...

Ok gents, I'm stuck in Perth for the foreseeable future. Can one of you knowledgeable gents give me a pointer as to the latest as regards the spread of the virus in Bali. I just read a very negative article in the Bali Sun regarding travel to Bali which came from an Aussie newspaper article. I really want to get back and all I read in the Aussie press is negative crap. I keep checking the Indo immigration website but obviously no update as to when they may reinstate Visas. Has there been anything on the grapevine to give some idea of when they may open up the border. Of course even if they do there's still the problem of getting out of Australia.

I suspect no one can really answer your question. The situation is so fluid as is the case worldwide it seems. No sooner than people start talking positively there is another cluster setback and closures happen again. There has been optimistic talk about September allowing a return of travellers to Bali from overseas but it's anyone's guess as to how that will pan out.

I would argue not even a reason to go into hiding since the fatality rate is so low. If you are over 65 and unhealthy, you still have an incredible chance of beating it if you get it. Same as you would with the flu at that age and in that health state. Long story short, the whole thing is a scam and everyone's got their head in the sand.

I totally agree with Jackstraw, I think the "lock in" is intentional to keep the $ in Australia, with people taking out 10k of their super early and other incentives, but the joke is on them, products have gone up so much during the pandemic that it just goes so fast. Judging by the amount of people I see in the shopping malls during the weekdays, a lot of people are still out of a job. I guess I will start hunting for employment again I had planned to return to Bali for 2 months first, but that time frame is just pushing out more and more so might as well try to keep busy and make some money. Is there any jobs out there for me? Now that's a whole different matter!

Also stuck in Perth Mrs stuck in Bali, no foreseeable end to this as I keep telling my friends we are just going to have to learn to live with Corona and that seems to be the gist here in this forum. Qantas shed another 6000 jobs today, Victoria is getting flogged by a "second wave" (and the numbers aren't really that high 33 cases at time of this post) going in to lockdown v2. I hate to say it, but it's getting to me. I enrolled the Mrs in college over in Bali which has been moved online at least for this semester, which is great, but it's also had the counter effect she's had a lot less time for me. I would have sworn I'd be back by October latest two weeks ago, now I'm not feeling so confident. I hope it all turns around.

I have one friend working in Sanglah Hospital...the supposed HQ of Bali corona cases. She told me it's been business as usual since this whole shit started. Yes, a couple people coming in for testing but no overcrowded rooms, no long lines, no ventilator shortages or anything of that kind. Her friend confirmed the same thing at Udayana Hospital, another building dedicated to corona control. Either Balinese hate going to the hospital, the coronavirus somehow magically skipped over the whole island or, and many won't like this theory, but perhaps could it be that corona just isn't as bad as everyone thought?

I haven't been following the numbers closely over the past 2 weeks but I know a very large majority of Bali's cases were all from workers returning from abroad doing forced quarantines and here is my theory on that. People who came back from overseas were forced to take a test. Of course, the majority of them had it (with the bulk of that being asymptomatic). I can guarantee if you tested just all of Denpasar today, then we'd have an instant "pandemic" on our hands. Corona is very contagious but dangerous and deadly? That I'm not sure about. Many studies suggest upwards of 80% of the world has corona. Hence, that's why we are seeing most people who test for it test positive for it. And that's the reason for the 2nd wave. There is no 2nd wave. Countries are just ramping up testing and as a result, finding more asymptomatic cases and a small percentage of people that need hospitalization. Remember people. Testing positive for corona doesn't mean you are in a hospital (or even feel sick at all). So don't get freaked out if you see number skyrocketing.

In trying to understand the data we are getting in Bali that much of the recent increase in those confirmed reflects the fact that with more people testing the numbers increase. Your point about the 2nd. wave only reflecting this increase makes sense. Today the numbers reveal 1158 confirmed ( that means all tested from day one), and 646 recovered, and this increasing gap is what bothers me because we aren't receiving a breakdown of what that actually identiifies, so we can only guess. There are 9 hospitals receiving COVID 19 patients and your previous info. concerning 2 in our largest population area with no great influx of patients could only mean that either some of those that tested positive elected for home quarantine or a great percentage of the 512 people now in the system are returning workers and unrecovered and in govt. required quarantine. If so, that number should diminish in time leaving only new local cases to continue inflating the confirmed group.

the Bali Sun is trash news in addition to any Australian news media outlet. Australia has been trying to take back their Bali tourists for decades and promote domestic tourism. This is all just a ploy to keep you guys locked up and spending money in Australia. Also, did anyone notice the countries with the strictest regulations seem to be the ones backed by China? China's had it's hands deep inside Australia for a while now in addition to the U.N., W.H.O and the Democratic party in America. Funny how all those organizations/countries are just going along with the Chinese party lines with little to no questioning.

Now then JackStraW. I just read on the Bali Sun website "The Sanglah hospital in Bali is almost at capacity as the number of positive Covid-19 continues to surge". What do I make of this after reading your comment above. I'm not arguing that your friend is wrong but there's something wrong. Is this newspaper blowing the story up to sell copy
