Woke up this morning, greeted by a big thunderstorm, rain, water, green all around you, bird singing, cricket, frogs, durian - yes my employee frozed a few of them and served it for breakfast... hmmmm, and then the light went out and the computer of course got disconnected.... ahhhh it's nice to back home again.

LA is nice, but too big and fake.... 2 weeks in Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket was wonderful but it's not home.

Well hello everyone.. hope to see some of you in person on this time around.

Love

Welcome back Jeff and Augie

Hi to you both, glad you arrived home safely. The trials and tribulations of the past three months have been difficult for us all. Bali has suffered so much since October last year and it is a worrying time for us all. Indeed for the whole world....would be interested in a just back summary from you , what do American people generally think of the situation?Whats the latest news about the imminent war from an American point of view?I wonder if the news in the US is any different from that which we are hearing here.I'd guess that Bali is now safer than most other places. As you said it certainly is nice to hear the birds singing and the air is fresher, at least it is up in the mountains where you live. Welcome back and hope to hear from you soon......hugs ....Gloria

Hi guys,
We must have almost passed each other in the Bangkok airport, you on your way to Bali, us on our way back to California after 3 1/2 weeks in Bali. Glad you're back on our adopted island....glad we'll be there in 5 1/2 more months.

You'll be glad to know that the ol' "wipe the chalk mark off the luggage" trick worked like a charm. All 4 of our huge, completely stuffed pieces of luggage had major chalk assaults on them when we got them off the carousel, but a quick wipe with damp rag, plus a buff with a dry one, and they were pristine. The customs lady looked at them with a puzzled expression, no doubt asking herself how these bags came through unchalked, but she waved us right on through. Our long-time driver thought it was a hoot. Bolstered by your advice via this forum, we brought everything but the kitchen sink, and plan to do the same in July when we make the permanent move.

It rained more during this visit than any of our others, and all of our visits thus far have been during the rainy season. Our builder, who runs a small hotel near Ubud, has been recording rainfall for the past 10 years. She notes that they got 20 inches in December, and 30 inches in January (both by far the most since she's been keeping records).

Won't bore you with house details, but all is progressing nicely, and everything should be ready by late July when we arrive. We are planning our house ceremony to occur on or about July 27, accompanied by feast and celebration, and you folks are certainly invited. We'll post on this forum as the time approaches and our plans are firmed up.

thanks for all the fine advice.

Dear Susan and Denis:

Indeed we could have bumped into each other at Don Muang airport in Bangkok and didn't even know it :p  Oh well let's make a point of getting together the next time we are on the same continent shall we?? We are scheduled to fly back to LA around 1st week of June for a month stay - so we may fly back to Bali the same time you guys are flying this way....

Good to hear that our advice about wiping off the chalk marks worked for you guys!!! Next time bring more!!!!!!!!! Needless to say our luggages were overweight this time around, but of course Jeff (my partner) was always able to charm the ticket counter lady...

Good luck with the house, and you betcha we would love to be there for the ceremony.

Best
Augie and Jeff
