Hi all!
Please excuse these stupid questions:
What is a HP? -I take it that it is what I would call a "cell phone", Ya?
Are there any people living in the US that are able to SMS to ID? We are unable to do so...
I am currently pating $0.65 per minute with my pre-paid phone when I call my friend in Dps...are there better rates out there?
It would be great if we were able to sms.
Thankx in advance.
p.s. please view my post in 'expats exchange'

Made,
I am pretty sure my friend in Seattle was able to SMS her then fiancee' now hubby, when he was in Dps!

Although I cannot tell you the exact details or what/ghow as I am from Melb..

Is you friend able to acess the internet?

I used to use a International Calling card when calling my hubby, from Aus different rates, but I would by a $50 card & it would last almost 2 months, where as my International phone bills were up to $300 per month prior to using these cards!
I called more with the phone cards too!

Yes, HP is cell phone.

I use calling card to call my friend in USA. It's very cheap. It's about Rp 2.200 per menit.

If your friend use Telkomsel and Excel, you can send sms by Yahoo Mobile

Hope I could help you.

Thanks for the replies....
My friend only has web access at her workplace, my 'hp' does accept email in the form of sms with a limit of 121 characters per message.
I do not mind waking up @ 3:00a.m. so we can chat, but it would be nice if our phones were compatible for sms. I will look into calling cards at the market when I do the days shopping.
If all goes as planned...I will be there in March, anyway! :D

Hi Made,

I’m using my computer for calling Brazil since two years now.
The thing is, you will use your PC to call any phone via internet, that’s the cheapest way to call overseas.
For example, one hour talking with Sao Paulo from Germany costs me about 5 €.

All you need is a headset, or speakers and a micro, you check the web for a provider ( there are heaps for USA and Canada), you register there, download their phone-software, mostly you will have an account uploaded by your credit card, then you dial the phone number of the person you want to call on your comp, that’s all.

There are much more, just do a little Google research and find out the best for you.

Best regards
Thorsten

PS: calling a cellular phone is about the triple price than calling a regular phone, like always ;-)

Hello,
If you both have a computer and headset then you can call for free. You just register with http://www.skype.com and you can talk worldwide for free. You can also make phone-calls from computer to normal phone but that you have to pay. Or you can use a webcam and talk for free with MSN or Yahoo Messenger. It works well. A webcam is cheap and it gives an extra dimension to your calls when you haven't seen them for a long time. We do it often from Belgium to Indonesia, so we can talk (and see eachother) with my wife's family for free. I love the internet. Hope this could help.

Since I stay in France, I talked with my familly in Bali, with SMS of Yahoo Messenger. It's free. And if I want to call, I use a calling card 15 euro for 1 hour talking...

Thank you all for your fabulous sugestions!
It is now cheaper for me to speak to ID than it is to call my next door neighbor!
I should also be posting some photo's soon...( Got access to photoshop Bert, I'll get the size right this time...)
I think I will see if I can pick up a ID HP online.
Webcam??? Probably not...I do not look my best during the times my freind has web access @ GMT +9.5 hrs!!!!
Again, Thanks for all the help this time, and the times before.
I am not overstating that this forum and it's members has changed my life for the best!
