I reckon you should stop off at Sanur on your way to Candidasa. This one seem reputable, but I've never used them. Poso - BaliBestRate.com If you don't like them you can just ask your driver to keep heading north on the main drag of Sanur until you find one that's acceptable.

There are now about 3 ATMs in Candi Dasa but the money changer is just next door to Vincents (or one away). The banks in Amlapura won't be much help as you will be here on Friday evening so I would suggest get about $100 worth at the money changer in the airport - they aren't that bad. Management is there any way you can build a button that allows us to spring over Paul's meanderings to the next sensible answer?

Is that using the new road/bypass or whatever it's called? It suits me to use cash so I need a money changer. Why would I need 2 mill for outbound trip the departure tax is now included in the ticket

Otherwise, just keep them for next trip. Up to you. I use them on the plane and I always come back so I have enough for all that. I can go to Darwin and back on 2jt incl driver,drinks and meals no worries. It doesn't hurt to have that cash on you.

Sorry to butt in, but if you have aussie dollars can you take them to ATM machine in Bali stick them in a hole and out pops Indonesian Rp????? Just change some at the airport I'm sure you know how to count. Change some on your way through sunar if the airport is too low. The bank in Surabaya is paying Rp 10850, but as you should get 9700 at the airport.

Hi Geedee if you are only changing a few hundreds then for convenience sake I would just do it at the Bali airport. Yes, the exchange rate will not be as good as on the street but the difference when changing a small amount will be little. The money exchange at the Bali airport is either at Bank Mandiri or Bank BRI. They both have a money exchange office just as you walk out of the terminal and before you get to the taxi stand. There are also a couple of ATM's nearby these two banks.

Personally, I have NEVER and will NEVER use an ATM in Bali, because card skimming is rife here. I only use the BCA card centre in jalan raya Kuta, where I hand over my credit card and withdraw Rp 10 million in one transaction. To avoid cash advance fees, I deposit money to my credit card account the day before, so I'm only withdrawing my own money. The exchange rate is good and only just below street rate. Or I bring cash from Australia and exchange at a reputable money changer.

I have heard its rife. However the reason I need to use cash is that's there's a cash component to my earnings. A great way to use it is holidays or large purchases

I don't think I'm being alarmist at all, JohnnyCool. I personally know of 4 people who live here full time or most of the year who have had their bank accounts depleted or emptied after using ATMs in Kuta/Legian/Seminyak areas. I'm not willing to take the chance.

The taxi stand is after you pass the money exchange and just before you walk into the store. It's a semi circle counter and has been there for a long time

It is before you walk through the duty free stores. If you are at the Mandiri money exchange it's probably about 15 steps away.
