Will I Am
Hi guys, I am in the final stages of leaving to Bali, nervous as hell, but looking forward to the move.I came to Australia from South Africa, looking for more peaceful life, but got trapped on an 80 hour per week job in the city with 2 hours commuting everyday, and have now decided to finally live life instead of dreaming about living it..I fortysomething heterosexual male, with no Klingons, so just selling off all the junk I have collected and heading over on the 7 November....Landing in Seminyak, booked a hotel for a few nights to give myself time to settle in and decided where I want to be..Freedom at last, I can't wait, but seem very nervous on the last few days.. Must be the labour pains of change that society demand in a City?Anyway, looking forward to getting over and meeting a few expats as company in a new country is always nice..Cheers guysWill

Welcome Will, no need to be nervous you've already made the best move in joining the forum (I get no commission or free beer). The move to Seminyak is a good start but your next move should be a bit more "Balinese" and so on until you've found the level of immersion you want to have. Good trip

You don't realise how deeply imbedded you become in the systems... Closing down things and getting rid of your stuff has always been difficult, but here's hoping it is what I have been looking for my whole life... If not, then onto something else in a few years...Cheers for the kind wordsWill

If yes, then I'll buy you a beer! :topsy_turvy::topsy_turvy::topsy_turvy:

Quick answer is YES... And there is always a but.... The humidity might take a few trial runs.. Easy way in a dry climate is a cardboard box with a light globe in it, but the humidity might need a fan blower.. I may never need to buy beer again... Cool hey?

Welcome.Always remember this: The worst day in Bali is better than the best day in Australia !!!!!!!!Seminyak is a great place to live, close to pretty much everything. It took me a year to mentally prepare myself coming to Indonesia, and I rate it as the best thing I ever did.WTF is biltong ?

(that should keep him away from my biltong stash at the next gathering).:barbershop_quartet_:topsy_turvy::topsy_turvy:

Yeah Dwainsworld, Biltong is yucky dried out cows arse the flies sit on.. No good.. No one actually likes it and it's bad for you, probably best to stay away from it.. Lol!Thanks for the inspiration.... 8 days out now and my boss has me finalising a project.. 14 hour days.. But it passes the time pretty fast...I decided that for every hour that I have worked, I will sit on the beach for an hour in Bali... Then decide what to do... Thinking of going to Ubud for starters and staying at a home stay there after a few days in Seminyak to sort out the business side if the move first.. Anyone recommend something up there?Cheers,Will

Dewi Ayu in Monkey Forest Road, Ubud is a nice place. I've stayed there a couple of times.Dewi Ayu Accomodation (Ubud, Bali): See 28 Reviews and 9 Photos - TripAdvisor

Make sure you have a large fridge in your homestay. Smoke and I are happy to drive there to meet you. We will drag Goldminer along as well. He has decided to live in Bali and FIFO for work in Australia. Goodness me that means he will be at my place in three hours time, I best go out and erect the barbed wire barriers immediately. Will, Bintang (icy cold)is a good beer to offer visitors. Smoke is good for about 10 beers a visit, Goldminer likes around 15 or so. I like about 25. So that is 50 beers you will need. If you have some extra coin, get a few beers in for yourself as well. However keep an eye open for the deranged cave dweller coming in from the north east, he can smell a free beer from miles away.

I would love to see it in action. Will be back to Bali early December, God willing, and the creek don't rise. Where in Bali are you living? :topsy_turvy:

Living in Bali ? , I wish. Perhaps within the next couple of years, thats why I follow this forum, getting an idea of cost of living. The dehydrator I have is electric, you can buy them in most electrical outlets in Perth. You should keep posting how you go up in Bali, I'd be interested to know, particluar to housing costs.cheersJeff

Seems like I may just have to get a beer truck down for you guys... These quantities of beer seem a bit low for such a hot climate, should I just get a few cases extra in case you actually get thirsty? Lol!What happened to BYO, or have I been in Aus too long?Only 1 week to go-time to start winding down..What about you guys meet me at the airport with a few beers and show me around the place??Cheers Will

Will, send me a PM with flight details and I will happily pick you up at the airport. There will be a small esky with about a dozen cold beers in it. However I have no biltong. I do however have salami and cheese.** note to self. Do not mention cheese. He who drags his knuckles along the jungle floors of the north east will turn up**

You will note that almost nothing is sacred - he will promise just about anything to get your luggage in his door. It seems that it's made quite easy by the Ozzi's addiction to cold beer - is there actually anything you people (I use the term loosely) will not do for beer? Now on the other hand I'm quite amenable to a well aged Gouda and give "free" advise and tips that will save you and your heirs millions and millions over the course of several minutes. Who said we expats are a bunch of fucking vultures? Oh that's right, we ate him. Did I hear something about cheese and salami???

Now I am wondering if this is a joke or a warning - no offence meant...Maybe best to err on the side of caution here..Thanks for the offer no idea, but I am sorted for the first few days..Markit, what is your heritage, as it seems you prefer cheese over beer.. Lol?Cheers,Will I was...
Markit
Nothing to do with heritage but everything to do with civilization. I just get the feeling Ozzis will step on Granny's head while she's sinking in quick-sand if she's between them and the beer.
