Maiden name on passport

Just realised that Ive booked my wife in her married name on the tickets and her passport is in her maiden name. I am going from Sydney to Bali on Air Asia (it was a great price for January) Her passport is Indonesian. I have tried to get Air Asia on the live chat but it constantly says too busy try later. Do i need to change or can i supply documents at airport. Anyone have experienced this.

I have bad news geedee as I've been in a similar situation. I booked for my wife Air Asia Bali-Jakarta-Bali but, as they make you rush, put my first name instead of hers...I misread passenger and contact names. The only difference was (David) instead of (Agusta).....surname is the same. They wouldn't allow a name change....I guess we could have mumbled our way past the ticket counter but my wife is not good at doing things like that and I wasn't travelling with her. We threw the tickets away. Anyway good luck.....you have time to attempt a change. Best to go to one of their offices or the airport.

Yes your correct, i have just been googling it and I'm finding its about $150 to change name and other people are saying you need to buy new ticket with Air Asia. Also hearing they are very difficult to contact in Australia. Anyhow have decided to change her passport which is due next year anyway and its only $40. Australian passport about $250.Indonesian consulate very very quick last time less than 2 hours from memory(they never took 20 smoke breaks). Wife is already having a go at me for my doing things too fast and making mistakes . I must remind her of that next time she just grabs a new handbag as quick as you can drink 2lt of wine and 6 killkennys. ah i really love the sound when she shuts up

Get her a new passport...that's smart....but will they allow a name change that easy in her new passport? I suggest you leave her in Sydney...it's summer there!:distant:

That's exactly what I did matsaleh but by the time they responded...like a week later...the flight had already departed.

I looked that but it says the following and its a complete surname change (maybe im rushing again and missing it) Typo error Add on/removal of English name for Chinese guest Title and gender change Sequence change - swap of first name and last name is allowed Mine would have to be a huge typo error

Im sure as its a new passport it will be easy if we have all the documentation they were very efficient the last time (very unindonesian) As for leaving her at home, why ever would i want to go on holiday myself , drink non stop while looking at all the girls and generally have a ball without the fun police beside me

I read that as sequence change meaning if you had mixed up first name and surname you could swap them around

I will try but im slowly finding out that AirAsia are not customer focused Did fly with once before Jakarta - Jogja return and they were ok

You're right...no fun being a masochist. I think matsaleh may have a point. In my case it was a guest change but your wife can prove both her names. I'd copy her passport and marriage certificate...you have a good case.

Decided just to get her new passport as its due in about 6 months anyway. Don't know why we never changed name last time you could be right may maybe complicated but I've got about 9 weeks. I think it will be easier than dealing with AA

I don't know if you ever plan to come and live in Indonesia but changing your wife's name on her passport may have consequences if that is your intent. She will also need to change her name on her RI KTP (Indonesian ID card) and her KK (Indonesian family card) and her RI driver's licence, etc. If she intends to eventually become an Australian Citizen she will lose all her rights to being Indonesian as they don't permit dual-nationality. She will be seen as a foreigner in her mother country. Happened to my wife when she became Canadian some 25 years ago, when we never considered to live in Indonesia....and now been here (Jakarta/Bali) 10+ years already. I sponsor her to live here.

This is Indonesia and if they can make problems for you they surely will. If she effectively changes her name she will, if living here, need to change all her other RI documents to reflect same. As you aren't considering moving any time soon I wouldn't bother as things may change anyway. An example today would be if she was your sponsor for a Sosbud, her KTP would need to reflect her name and where she lived in Indonesia. The only way to recover citizenship is to apply, just like any other foreigner, and that takes 7-10 years to get. Anyway, it is very difficult to travel together as a couple when having an Indonesian passport, especially USA and Canada where we go most years...requires lots of visas.

Every time we have a tiff I threaten her with deportation....btw I can say our guest mattress is very comfortable and the local pizza delivery service excellent. She now qualifies by age to get her own Retirement Kitap (under process now) so I've lost control...as if I ever had it. Our situation was different as we lived in Arizona for 8 years...no way we could have done that on an Indonesian passport.

She intends to keep her Indonesian passport,she has been a permanent resident here for about 15years and we probably will come to live in about 10 years time So just changing name can have an effect if she still keeps her Indonesian passport?? Will this give us problems later? That's shocking you have to sponsor your wife who was born there , Can you not revert back to Indonesian citizenship?

She will definitely keep her Indonesian passport and we can change the other documents if and when time comes(her brother seems to make things happen quickly I wonder why) She hasn't had a problem getting visas before, last year UK was very quick and she has been to the States on a few occasions, i don't know if her uncle who was in the Indonesian embassy had helped. So you sponsor your wife perhaps that's why she puts up with you?
