Coming on holiday January. 1.Can I leave and enter Australia with Australian passport and enter and leave Bali with British passport as there is no VOA charge. 2. Do we need to use different queue as wife Indonesian passport son Australian mine British Thanks

Yes, you can leave Australia on your Australian passport and enter Indonesia on your British passport. Just remember to tender the correct passport when leaving Indonesia and re-entering Australia. Your son will have to purchase the VOA at the VOA counter before joining you in the immigration line for foreigners. Your wife should go to the immigration line for Indonesian citizens. Immigration may allow you and your son to join your wife in the local line, but it's a bit chancy. You may queue up for half an hour, only to be told you need to be in the foreigners line.

1. No problem so long as entering Australia you have the UK passport ready and explain, if asked, where you came from and don't have the RI exit stamp in your Australian passport. 2. There are different line-ups for Indonesians...and others. Your son will need to to purchase a VOA [B]prior[/B] to lining-up for the immigration check. I don't know the age of your son so be prepared for awkward questions if he is a juvenile and appear to travel on his own...maybe better to stay with his mum and go thru' WNI line-up with her.....or stay with you in that 'others' line. edit. must have been writing and didn't see Matsaleh's post until after posting mine.

Thanks Matsaleh an extra $50 to spend yippee. Have been a couple of times Bali & Jakarta went to different queues wife seems to get through much quicker and wondered whether I should try going through with her

Thanks Davita(your a fellow Scot aren't you) My son will be 15 and from previous relationship , just thought if I chanced it and all go through with wife then it would be quicker as 2 years ago we were about half an hour longer than her

Just to let you know, geedee, the lineup at immigration is a lot quicker than before. A lot more counters are manned (womaned/personed?) than previously, since the VIP service was outlawed.

Like matsaleh says..that's what I'd do...get your wife to speak and say we are family... all immigration officers aren't Ogoh Ogoh's. Ive seen, prior to the new set-up, they called foreigners when their line was empty. BTW welcome to the forum.

Just a wayward thought: since OP is a UK dual national he can of course confer UK nationality on his son (yes, even Scotsmen!) allowing both of you to happily skip through the "no visa" line.

Markit - until recently If the U.K citizen just males (even Englishmen )were not married to the mother of the child it was a lengthy process for the child to be recognized As a start you had to register them at the British consul before they reached 16y/o costing about $1000 and prove lots of things like you support him etc etc Males were discriminated against and this has now changed which i have just discovered. Its still about $1000 but i will do in the future as i don't think their is any hope that he will pay for it.

If wifey is Javanese, or Batak, tell her to chill when dealing with Balinese. The Bali culture still has elements of previous dynastic and patriarchial ways and they don't like others interfering....especially females. She can be strong but best to chamfer this with subtlety. I don't think they gene test unless positive proof required as for the surprising bit you are obviously referring to him not belonging to HER as i know it wouldn't be in your nature to even dream of insulting me( i did know he was mine as he had a certain rugged handsome look often found in Scotsmen, he also appeared to be very charming)
