Balibule can you share the control tips for that meter as I surely have the same one but am too stupid to know (and was never told) that it had those features. Thanks in advance.

Hi MarkitThere are 30+ codes. Just a few;812 swith of buzzer821 kwh used last month822 kwh used last two months823 kwh used last three months824 ...831 amount of prepaid credit paid last month832 amount of prepaid credit paid last two months833 etc ...816 date of last time adding credit....Maybe PLN has these on their website?

Thanks BB but just found out mine isn't the same machine as those codes don't seem to work, Oh well...

Me either... I was excited too. Oh well I guess I will go back to imagining stabbing the speaker with a screwdriver.

Since June this year finally i pay our electricity lower than usual 600.000-1.000.000 ... My new concierge say it is too much for my house, that sometimes we pay 300.000 for empty house, i thought that was correct as base price. This year my husband and i ordered technician to see and controled all of cable, the worker found some broken cable ... the power was going to the wall and some floor ... like heater! Now is all of cables okay ... and i pay for JUne about 400.000.

As Dyah has just indicated...if the interior wires in a house are old or the insulation has broken down then electricity can leak to ground. This is not only wasteful but dangerous. So she did the right thing to have the wires checked and replaced. The interior wires are NOT the responsibility of PLN. Their responsibility stops at the meter....anything after the meter belongs to the homeowner. As someone else said on this thread...switch off the C/B at the meter...if it still goes round or still counts down then call PLN. The meter is faulty or the C/B that is attached is NOT functioning.

For whoever wants to know the latest rates for sure:your local PLN kantor has a brochure with "Tarif Dasar Listrik."

The prepaid I am certain is a scam. I have 1 room and a bathroom on prepaid and the rest of the house is standard and those two rooms cost 450.000 a month. If it is the only way around the bill problem though it is better than 5.000.000 a month which is what it sounds like they were setting you up for.I didn't want to post again but I was thinking about how much I hate prepaid and wanted to say more. Your credit ALWAYS runs out on the weekend typically Saturday after the shop closes it will start it's beeping which I am sure they charge you for the energy it takes to make it beep and if there is a way to stop it I haven't figured it out yet. Once it starts beeping I have about a day and a half before it is completely empty so I spend the rest of Saturday and all Sunday listening to the that annoying beep. If I am lucky I will get to the shop Monday morning before the power goes off if not well I spend Sunday night in the dark. I know I said it is only 1 room and a bathroom it just so happens it is my bedroom and bathroom. Anyway I could go on I really hate prepaid.
Why don't you just top it up, before the beeping starts. I look at my meter and when it is low, like 25,000 I bung another 200 on it, not rocket science...
Gozer
That would be the smart thing to do but sadly requires a level of attention to detail that I am entirely incapable of.

Water pumping is a nightmare here - suggest you get a floating switch, run a wire between your pump and the water tank. Put the floater in water tank so when water gets low pump only then turns on until tank full again. Forget the little built in on/off switch - crap, no, total crap! Apologies for stating the bleeding obvious, but it wasn't to me when I built 2 water tanks and then had to re-install.

We have 3 a/c a night. Fridge n pool pump on 4 hrs a day. Our bill used to be 1-1.2juta a month thats fine but than doubled !!!I got an electrician out to check-the problem a water pump that is leaking so on all the time to maintainpressure-solution on/off button for water pump. NIGHTMARE!!! I am always nagging staff to turn water off n forget to turn it on before hopping in the shower!!!!!!!Bali!
Hi,Theres 4 reasons for this1 - you have a genuine leak somewhere that you cant see and cant fix - and therefore the pump is always on?? Would have to be a fair sized leak for that to be happening, and id imagine you would soon see where this leak is - if so, fix the leak! By installing an on / off switch you havent fixed the leak so are still being wasteful (both water and power)2 - your pump usually turns on and off via a pressure switch. Once your pipes are pressured up the pressure switch will sense this and shut the pump off. Of course , for this to work, you need to have a check valve (a one way valve) installed directly after the pump discharge. So that after the pump pressures up the pipes, the only way for the water to get out, is to turn a tap on. If your check valve has sand or grit in it, or not working / operating correctly, then the water will flow backwards back past the pump and never really switch off as the pressure switch wont see the pipe work ever reaching "cut off pressure" or it will constantly cycle on and off - if this is the case then change the check valve. Dirt cheap.3 - the pressure switch settings which control the pump are set incorrectly or the electrical contacts are fused together (always on) - if so replace the pressure switch or adjust the pressure settings (cut in / cut out pressure and differentail). Out of Bali this is about 32 psi.......in Bali be careful, sometimes the pipework here wont handle that kind of pressure and you'll blow the pipes apart inside the walls and cieling space - then youve really got problems. Start at about 20psi and work your way up gingerly. Can only do this if you know what your doing and have a pressure gauge attached to you pump (after the check valve!)4 - neighbours are tee'd into your water supply - if this is the case cut their pipe off, mend yours and let them come to you....once again maybe stating the obvious - but finding a plumber in Bali who knows how to set up a pressure switch / check valve (and sometimes pressure tank) correctly isnt easy.have fun....

I have just been reading through this post and starting to wonder ...!!I have two air cons going constantly, 2 floor fans only at night..The usual TV's fridge pool washing machine pond etc etc...My electricity bill is around 3, 500 000 every month...The owners of our rental Indo/Dutch are also our neighbours...!!

You've always wondered why they're smiling a lot? Your bill should be no more than 1.5 mil/month max! unless you have the oldest ACs and fridge on earth.

My boys every now and then want to have a spa, but the cow next door comes over and has thenerve to say to me..." can you not have a spa in the evening because in the morning there is nohot water left for me to wash my hair ".....Huh...How does that work, unless we are connected ...Hubby will be home in one week, will give him the task of confronting the neighbours...!!

So maybe you are sharing the hot water? Is it electric? As some people have suggested before, if there is a meter on your house, turn it off and see if your neighbors power goes off also.

The most common size is 3/4 pk = 3/4 Horse Power. 1 HP = 746 Watts so 3/4 HP = 560 W, that's for the compressor unit. Now remember that the indoor unit has a fan as well to blow out the cold air - so a 3/4pk AC is usually reckoned to use 650W.You say that they're going constantly. In fact the compressor comes on for a while, then goes off, then comes on again, then ...... Same for the fan inside the unit in the room. So, let's say that it's actually running and using electricity for half the time, 12 hours a day.650W x 12 hours = 7,800Wh = 7.8kWh = 7.8 units of electricity to be paid for each day = 241.8 units in 31 day month. How much is that in cash? Depends on what rate you are paying for your supply. For my house, my August 2013 bill cost Rp.1,057.95 per unit. So 241.8 units would cost around Rp.256,000.Floor fans - how big? Maybe 50W each? How many hours? 10 hours a night? = 500Whours = 0.5kWh per day = 15.5kWh per month = Rp.16,400.(NB this one uses 55W - compare your fans to it and adjust accordingly - Maspion EX167S Kipas Angin Meja & Berdiri - Biru/Putih | Lazada Indonesia)TV? How many hours are you sat glued to it? Let's go for 10 hours a day for a 100W TV. That's twice as big as the floor fan above = Rp.32,800 per month. (Why do people have TVs in Bali? - the programmes are complete crap and there's so much else to look at and to do here!)Fridge - let's say 150W? The motor goes on, goes off, goes on .... Let's say it's actually pumping refrigerant half the time, 12 hours. 150W x 12 hours = 1.8kWh per day = 55.8kWh per month = Rp.59,000.The pool. Unless it's Olympic sized and used by national swimming teams for their training for international events it's going to have a 1 HP Hayward motor driving the pump. How many hours a day do you run the pump? Mine is on 24 hours a day, but many other folks go for half that, 12 hours. 1 HP x 12 hours = 746W x 12 hours = 8.952kWh per day = 277.5kWh per month = Rp.294,000.Pond? 50W (?) pump @ 24 hours a day = 50W x 24h = 1.2kWh per day = 37.2kWh per month = Rp.39,400.Summary:2 ACs @ Rp.256,000 = Rp.512,0002 fans @ Rp.16,400 = Rp.32,800TV = Rp.32,800Fridge = Rp.59,000Pool = Rp.294,000Pond = Rp.39,400Total without washing machine = Rp.970,000 - let's call that 1 million. Therefore your washing machine is using Rp.2,500,000 a month!!!!!!!!!!!!Round here there are little laundry places that will do 10 pieces of laundry for Rp.15,000. Your Rp.2,500,000 would be enough for them to wash and iron 166.7 loads of 10 items - 1,667 clothes! = 53 newly laundered shirts each day!Lea - you've got a problem!Switch absolutely everything off - look at the PLN electricity meter - is it stopped dead or is it still going round? If it's still going round you are leaking electricity. Call an electrician to find the leak. Then he can check each of the circuits you have - one for each of the trip switches in your box. Finally he'll find that cable running out of your house and supplying free juice to the whole village!Cheers!

Seems they are not only teed into your electricity, but your water as well (hot water at that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).Even if teed into your (hot) water alone - this doesnt not account for the size of your electricity bill. As someone suggests , turn of the little blue circuit breaker (at the bottom of your meter) at night time and see if the neighbours power goes out.If you turn this breaker of and then your meter should stop spinning around (the 2 are directly connected and selaed with a PLN seal). The fact that this stops spinning around when you turn that breaker off is NOT an indication they are NOT stealing power - as you may be blacking them out at the same time. But if they are smart, they will only be using this stolen power for their power circuits and not their lighting - in which case you wont see a change. Just wait until your fridge is empty and nothing can spoil, and go away for a day trip and turn you power off for the entire day at the circuit breaker i mentioned. When you get back check if they have been over to turn it back on.Better still, unplug all your precious aplliances, then go and toggle that circuit breaker....on / off / on / off / on / off / on /off......you'll soon fry the neighbours fridge and aircon compressors, and maybe even a few other favourites. Do it long anough and youmight even take out their pool pump (make sure yours is unplugged first)You could always just go and politely ask them if yous are sharing power and hot water - and if so - who is paying for it all. I'd opt for total destruction of their appliances.
