now to start a debate ... who gets the proceeds from the sale ? does jailed wife get ? does RI get ? do the siblings ( that are in school in Oz) get it ? how much of RI law comes into play now ?

I would imagine that it still belongs to the husband/wife. He's history so she collects. I imagine the guardian appointed by Oz/Indo gov will drag feet on sale. Course she's gonna need the dosh for her defense so this has really worked out well for all parties.

maybe not maybe a nominee used ? if marriage not have prenup before. so if nominee leglly owns it wife get nothing if nominee sees fit maybe wife own it legally then yes her and the offspring keep it what if just a 25 year lease and dead husband only name on it way to many senerios and yes she going to need lots and lots of dosh for her trial( if it gets that far)

Since when did any journalists print facts when they can print hearsay and innuendo and put it down to 'un-named sources' or a 'spokesperson who wishes to remain anonymous' then when proven wrong print an 'apology' in size 2 font at the end of the 'Goldfish for Sale' column.

This WILL be an interesting case study as it pans out. I only read she was the nominee of the company/business' but I do know that Emerald Villas is leasehold title....as I have an interest. I don't know either of those poor people and already feel sorry for the kids...but I have friends that knew them all. In the interest of protocol and decency I'll refrain from commenting unless something factual, which may be of interest to others, comes out of the obvious subsequent enquiry. I'd hope others would also comply. There is no doubt, however, that the Indonesian property title laws and business nominee principles will, at some time, be opened at some session of the enquiry; and that might open the door and give opportunity for the rest of us to vent our positive opinions. I'd suggest an ad hoc committe, armed with documents, evidence and knowledge, could be persuasive to having our voice heard...given that exposure. At least the committee could lobby those nice Australian Journalists to print facts.

@#16 I have no idea what premised the crime. I read linked reports they had issues with their business and property ownership....that's all. My suggestion is....when the murder case becomes newsworthy and, if RI foreign property rights [B]are[/B] presented, posters here could send personal opinions. To put another way......as maybe Markit would describe...let's campaign and bitch like hell when an opportunity presents itself. A primary question is 'why can Indonesians buy freehold property in other countries when they don't reciprocate here in Indonesia?'

Any concrete suggestions on how, when and where? If I understand you correctly your premise is that the crime was in part due to the nominee structure and that were it not how it is the murder might not have happened? Therefore changing that structure would decrease crime and be a general boon to human kind... Hmmmm?

What's your point samsiam...like another thread where markit has made comment...you came to Indonesia recently and others, including myself, made substantive effort to assist in your re-location, even after you already created posting issues on the 'Living in Indonesia' forum. Yet you persist with your silliness here. If you wish to be constructive, or even amusing, that would be welcome. For example..you have good knowledge on children surfing and kite surfing...why not start a new thread on that subject so we can all be educated?

Today my wife lunched with some visiting ladies from the Bali Classic Golf Tournament, currently being played at Nusa Dua. I had a couple of Bintangs (besar) at the Pub in Kerobokan. According to my missus their conversation was all about this recent murder as most of the ladies knew Bob and Noor Ellis.....and are shocked! What shocked me was when I said that Noor is looking at the death penalty for murder....apparently, my wife's Indonesian pals thought there was NO death penalty in RI! I cannot believe that's what educated Indonesians think....I know there are some 130 people on death row in Indonesia including Ms Sandford and, in 2013, RI executed four. Are Indonesian ladies really dispossessed of news and reality?
