I suggest you read thru' this link from expat indonesia...especially where it says that ONLY pets from
rabies-free countries are permitted into Jakarta...then google 'rabies-free countries' and look for Thailand.
All the sites I've seen do NOT include Thailand as a rabies-free country.
Smuggling dogs from Java to Bali is an illegal act that can carry a jail sentence....I believe 3 years max then deported if a foreigner! Bon Voyage:grumpy:
Having Pets in Indonesia
But...did you read it all...
The consequences of this are: ONLY Pets (dogs or cats ) coming from RABIES-FREE COUNTRIES can be
easily imported to Jakarta, Indonesia.
Pets from Rabies infected areas CAN enter Jakarta LEGALLY provided they have the right documentation and health records. But because of the law all animals MUST spend 14 days in Quarantine regardless of health documentation before they can enter the country. For more information, contact the Dept. Agriculture 021 781 5580.

Quote 'What project?'...the project to bring your dog to Bali.
I understood, from previous posts, that you planned to bring the dog yourself....I'll be interested to know the cost of this agent and importation...if accepted.
The euthenized dogs were brought by a company that smuggles dogs to Bali...the owners then deserted them....for obvious reasons.
But you seem convinced so......go for it and best of luck.
Please let us know when the project is complete.

Samsiam I would weight the pros and cons for each situation
break the kids heart by not taking the blind dog or paying to have it illegally smuggled into Bali after 2-3 weeks in Jakarta quarentine and then having it caught or doing it yourself and getting caught.think how each senerio could affect you daughter?or maybe take in ferry from SG and try and bypass the quarentine period since it a small dog .
Personally if it was me,I would come by ferry and bring it to bali myself!

^ have spent much time thinking about all scenarios, don't worry.
As for ferry from Sing...then I have to get it into Sing which I have not researched, but would expect costly, if even possible from a rabies country in the first place.
How does the ferry arrive in Bali by bypassing any customs issues or such, after all it is coming across international borders....not just intra country lines within Indo....seems much more at risk to me.
Smoke
then research from malaysia. think outside the box . jakshita going to quarentine the blind dog cottect ? then you have to have it smuggled into bali somehow

Missing the point a bit there Smoke...SG has very strict animal laws.
But even supposing they managed to get through Malaysia and take the ferry from Johor Baru, all incoming baggage to Batam is Xrayed on arrival and believe you me they are shit hot on anything coming in...electrical goods, laptops, phones, currency, plants and animals.
Then how are they going to get OFF Batam and down to Jakarta or Bali, more airports, more security, more Xray machines...more outstretched palms...
We all know what the answer is ...
......................................................................
Our posts crossed in mid air Sam ... don't even THINK about messing with Singapore Customs or Immigration, in fact even thinking about thinking about it is probably illegal...dunno where everyone is getting the idea from that entry into Indonesia from anywhere the Malaysian Peninsula is easy, the authorities here are not nearly as laid back as Bali...

Inot Jakarta is not the problem...yes, Jakarta will quarantine the dog for 14 days, however you can get early release after 1-3 days for a fee and if the dog is quarantined at home for the remaining time, even that is not essential apparently.
So, theoretically we have the dog in Java and out of quarantine say after 3 days....then the real problem starts it seems.
Bringing the dog as you say from sing or Malay should/would pop up all sorts of extra issues because of the 'international' crossing bit...same same Joe mentions.

Has anyone on this forum imported a dog from a non rabies-free country to Jakarta and wish to contribute to this thread?

OK ... seems you have made your mind up Sam so here goes with logistic and practicalities ... incoming ferry Banyuwangi to Gilimanuk last one at night virtually ignored.
Dog hopefully asleep in a travel basket out of sight but not 'hidden'.
Decisions? Drive your self and possibly attract attention?
Alternatively, use a local driver who if stopped will dob you in in a nanosecond?
If driving yourself, drive straight off the ferry and out of the arrivals area looking like you know exactly where you are going, which you obviously won't, but if you stop to check directions or maps, you will attract attention.
If you are stopped plead ignorance and have the cash ready to 'sort things out'.
Get out of the area as quickly as possible.
Then think think think...where are you staying your first few days on Bali? Because I don't know any hotel that has signs up saying 'Pets Welcome' and indeed the sight of a 'Bule' family turning up with a dog in tow will be so unusual that some wag may start making inquiries how and when you brought it onto the island and then threaten to do the 'Public Duty' thing and suggest a 'donation. will ensure your secret remains safe...which it never will because I don't know an Indonesian on the planet who can keep their trap shut...and YES that includes my wife and kids.
Anyway whatever you do, let me know as I might get part of a book out of this...I already have several chapters detailing an expat getting OFF Bali and out of the country all together without going through the 'process'...

... and I'm sorry ... re Markit's response .... from being heartless and suspect why does anyone post RIPs for pets ... apart from wanting everyone to think 'Ahhh what a compassionate and rilly nice guy ...
Markit may be a twat, but I defend his right to be a twat!

Not offended.
I can usually see through someones attempt to be jovial.......as in that movie with Adam Sandler, 'Grown Ups' and the guy says 'Death makes me weird'
We found a home for the boy yesterday, so he now has a harem of other girls to shag daily....not a bad life improvement I think.

I always wonder why people want to post their saccharin sweet, sentimental "emotions" to people they don't, or probably never will, know.
If you find my comments repulsive, offensive or in bad taste then tough! Stop posting idiotic emotive bollocks that FB seems to be full of - go there and post your feely shite on FaceBook.
This is a forum about Bali - not dead monkeys in Thailand or have I missed something?
