All the sand and stone for the southern building lunacy is coming from our mountains here in the east - expect the island to tip over at any moment with the change in balance and also the endless trains of overloaded trucks have effectively destroyed all of Bali's roads in the mean time - and I do mean "mean".

davita, if you're looking for pate and terrines, try Gourmet Cafe on Dewi Sri.
They also sell online, but they don't have much stock available before Christmas, I'm afraid.

Well my 3 week Christmas/New Year stay in Ubud has come to an end - thankfully!
Ok, ok I understand the term "rainy season" but in Ubud even when it's not raining the the air humidity is about 95% so the only thing keeping back the swarms of invisible mosquitoes is that they run into water in the air - on dry days they are awful and it's the only thing that makes you glad that it is raining most of the time is that it keeps the beasties back - a little.
If it's not swarms of mozzys then it's swarms of Chinese tourists - from 9 in the morning until 7 at night the main drags are blocked with hordes of Monguls looking for Genghis or cheap Guccis. 6 years ago when I first came to Ubud it was busy and Ibu Oka had her shop on the market square next to the Palace and main temple. She served crappy Babi Guling and most people went to have their photos taken and ate half a plate and then away. Now Ibu had 2 places chock a block with Monguls and blocking the roads with their buses. It's still crappy food - go figure.
The drivers now have given up on asking "Taxi" they just flip a piece of cardboard with that written on it. I had the great idea of making my own sign wit "Feck NO!" on it which caused much hilarity.
Food wise I tried many of your suggestions and found these to be the best - Mama Mia pizzas, best in Asia, Suckling Duck, cheap and good - the name cracks me up, Cafe Wayan - great food, employees and fantastic buffet meals, LeZat is great for music and ambiance. Many of the road side sellers are actually pretty good for your staple Nasi Goreng and sate - particularly on the turn off before you enter the main Ubud drag going toward Armar Museum.
Gotta go as it's raining and don't want to miss my last chance to get soaked for a while.

Mama Mia pizzas, best in Asia, .............

I agree Mam Mia is good, but on Tripadvisor from last November I saw
But...of the 3 Woodfire pizzas I've had in Ubud, this was the worst. Way too much cheese,
In Bali you get used to pizzas without much chesse, so that one made me smile.

i never tried Mama Mia pizza after all these years, maybe because my niece and her friends already consider Pizza Bagus as their personal playground, even the waitress already know their name :boxing:
Maybe I'll try Mama Mia next time :icon_e_geek:

But Pizza Bagus do not permit dogs indoors, only at the outdoor tables which are often taken. I know this doesn't concern most of you, but for some of us.....

BLASPHEMY!!! THERE CAN NOT BE TOO MUCH CHEESE ON A PIZZA. In fact I'm for pizza without all that dough - just cheese.

I do believe in another thread I recommend you slap that niece for wanting a Husky. Now double that.

Markit, you must have been watching too much of that "How I Met Your Mother" program and its slapbet:boxing:
I agree with ronb about some restaurants could have increase the visitor if they could be more lenient to dog, but it could also backfired and create unwanted incidents with other customers.
I love my dogs, but I think they don't need to go to restaurants to have a decent meal, I think its the human that needs them accompanying them everywhere, not the other way around.
Our dog are happy to stay and get a big slice of pizza that I brought home for her:icon_e_wink:
