Retirement Visa process

I cannot edit my previous post #57 anymore but I'd like to modify for clarity... I said...'After 2 Kitaps the visa is indefinitive'. What I mean is.... after the issue of the 2nd Kitap it becomes indefinite, assuming all regulations are met and a report is made to Immigration every 5 years.

Just last week we renewed our KITAS via Bali Ide (see Yani...she's great!)...cost about the same as Davita above, and yes the new KITAS is back to a piece of paper...plastic credit card types discontinued. Also at Immigration now, when you go and have new finger prints and photo taken, its on a first come first serve basis even if you have an agent....so get there early as possible and take a number. We arrived there about 8.30am and had a wait of about an hour.....not too bad at all, but folks arriving after 9am would have been there for a whole lot longer.......it became very busy.

Thanks but all our passports/documents are with our own agent...we just have a letter confirming that fact. I'll check it out when my wife gets back from Jakarta next week.

Hmmm...well Bali Ide (refer Yani) said we could have applied this year for KTP and it would have a 5 year validity. Cost about the same for memory....not hugely different. BUT the problem for us was that our passports and all the original docs....(marriage cert, medicare cards, insurance, bank details, property titles and passports) would need to go to Jakarta and there would be at least a 3 month wait. We were not happy with this, in the event of some emergency and we needed to return to Australia in a hurry. So we just renewed our KITAS which still meant no passports for about 4 weeks. Re the purchase of cars and motor bikes...we posed this question to Yani last week and she said she was aware of changes to the law, but she had not been able to actually confirm it....was trying to talk to some friends at Honda/Suzuki etc. Maybe email or call her and have a chat. She is very approachable.

Last week I was told by a Daihatsu dealer that since I have a KITAP (the 5 year thing) I can own a car in my name - but with a KITAS it is now not possible.

Ron (sorry OP) a question on the KITAP; Say your passport is only good for 2 years how does that work? Forget "sorry OP" just realized the original thread was retirement visas - talk about "thread wander"!!!

I think some clarity is useful here.... A KTP is a an I.D. card and issued to all Indonesians, but available to foreigners, although not many apply as a Kitas or Kitap suffices as ID. This is different to KITAS (temporary stay visa) or KITAP (permanent stay visa). Both are issued to foreigners. My information, from a senior officer in Renon police HQ (MVDept) was a Bali KTP was required to purchase a new car in Bali but, if a Kitap is OK then ....good news!

Last year I got a new passport half-way thru' my annual Kitas. The agent just had the the same Kitas and MERP transferred to the new passport...for a fee of course!

There you go! I was told by another that "that's all ok, just hang on to your out of date passport and show IMMI that when coming or going" ... course that wouldn't cost a fee

That'll probably work just as well. I've done that in a couple of other countries. When I get a new passport they cut the corners of the old passport pages EXCEPT those that have current visas...so I've shown the old and new passports on arrival.

Well for starters I don't want to spend 30,000,000 plus for a 5 year visa only to be told that it's not valid after my old passport is history - that kind of clarity. Not that I don't believe you but "I've done that in a couple of other countries" isn't quite definitive enough for me on Indonesia.

My current KITAP goes to 2016, while my passport goes till 2019 - so I have not confronted the situation where your passport runs out before the 5 years is up.

Greetings all! As you can tell, I just joined the forum. I am currently an expat in Thailand and am thinking of moving to Bali, somewhere close to Ubud. I have read all 8 pages of this thread and have found it very useful. Thanks to all for the great info.
