Hi guy's this question may have been asked before, But i am coming to Bali in May, looking to stay anywhere from 3-6 mths, I have been told to get the 60 day tourist visa, and then i can extend while i am there.. !! There is so much mixed information on the websites, some is out of date etc.. I know it's probably not the right way to apply for the social visa, but at this point i have no other choice , Any good CLEAR advice will be great.. Please feel free to inbox me if you prefer Cheers ...

Hi CG and welcome.
A visa on arrival (VOA) is easy to buy and can be extended for a further 30 days, then you must leave and return.
The 60 day tourist visa issued from your country of residence is, lawfully, not extendable.
The Social Budhaya visa (Commonly called a Sosbud) is available and applied from your country of residence. It does require a letter of sponsorship from an Indonesian resident and there needs to be a reason like visiting relatives, etc.
This visa is, initially, for 60 days, but can be extended within Indonesia for 4 X 30 days for a total of 180 days...thereafter you must leave, re-apply and return. This is normally done with a trip to Singapore or KL.

Yes this I already know davita, But i have been told that you can/ or there are ways around extending the 60day visa, I have been to Bali a few times, but wish to stay longer this time around, So perhaps i may have to do a run to Singapore ??

If you apply for a 60 day visa in Australia you need a return ticket dated before 60 days. If you want to do something illegal you need to find a agent with friends. You can apply for a sobud in Australia, you need a sponsor letter & copy of ID this will save a trip to Singapore.

Thanks Fred2 .. I will probably find a agent with friends, As i can not get a sponsor or letter , This is why i thought of getting 60 day done here and looking into what i can do when i am there, If i need to go to singapore for a day then i guess that is what i will do..

we came with a 60 day tourist visa from australia and were able to extend legally 4X1 month for a total of 6 months
from what i remember it depends on the number of your tourist visa
unfortunately i don't have my passport here but from memory if it's a 204 tourist visa then you can legally extend it
CG006
Hi Phil, I pretty sure its a 211 tourist visa, I think that is the same number as a social visa ??
phil170258
yes, that's it, not 204 (sorry about that)
i'm pretty sure this means you can get it extended 4X1 month as we did.

The reason my previous post referred to 'lawfully' is because a tourist visa is NOT lawfully extendable...even though many have succeeded in having it extended.
If the Tourist visa is stamped as a 211 then what happens is the Immigrasi assume it's a 211 Sosbud and allow an extension. This is a 'mistake' on their part and we all know how they can be enticed to make such mistakes.
The reason for the visa being issued, in the first place, will be on the application file in the foreign country. As many Indonesian Embassies in foreign countries can issue Tourist and Sosbud visas without authority from Immigrasi in Jakarta, the reason may go unnoticed. I think the applications are not yet data linked to Jakarta so no-one bothers to check...who knows what the future holds in this area.
Some foreign RI Embassies put a sponsor name on a Sosbud and naturally this doesn't appear on a Tourist visa...this may cause some questions when an extension application is made.
The OP is aware and prepared to 'give it a go' with a back-up to exit to S'pore and return....good luck and please keep us posted.

Ahhhh Thank you Davita, this makes a little more sense as to how it can work, Yes i will let you know how it all goes when i am there, I really would prefer to do it the right way, but no way am i going to go, get sponsor, all the other required stuff and then fly back, as i am from Adelaide it cost a fair bit in air fares.. They really should make a easier way to do it legit , I mean there must be people who just want to go there and stay for 6-12 months but don't know anyone to obtain the correct info to process the social v.. Thanks again for your reply :icon_e_smile:

60 day tourist visa & sobud visa are the same 211 type visa. The only difference is a sobud visa has your sponsor name printed on it. End of story!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now if you are a Indonesian citizen & would like to go to Australia for 6-12 month for holiday you will need more than a sponsor letter:icon_lol:.

I have evidence that not all RI Embassy/Consul print sponsors name on Sosbud visas......... some do, some don't.

Please don't think I was inferring you did anything wrong...far from it.
I'm only trying to explain to the OP how this 's**t' happens, so he is wiser and can prepare himself for eventualities.
It might be useful if you can suggest the agency fee to get these extensions.
I've never used an agent for a sosbud so i'm not familiar with those fees.

That may very well be the case but and i don't know what went on with my agent and immigration but all i know is that he took one look at my visa and said that that it could be extended. There was never ever any suggestion of doing something 'illegal' (because if there was I would not have done it!) and the fee i paid was the standard fee for a visa extension.

no mistake...211 is 211..be it sosbud or tourist.
like fred2 said "end of story"

In my current passport I have 4x 211 sosbuds and only 1 has my sponsor's name. There are 2x 212 Sosbuds and both have my sponsor's name.

I'm pretty sure it was 550,000 each time for those 4 extensions.

212 is a mulitple entry visa...
This visa is available for visitors who make several visits to Indonesia,
it's valid for 1 year, but you can't stay longer then 60 days per visit, unless you have authorisation from the imigration.
There's no sponsor needed to apply for this visa..

The two multi-entry Sosbud 212 visas that I received in the last couple of years most definately required a sponsor. In fact, for the first issue, he was interviewed by telephone to substantiate his presence.
gilbert de jong
that was your experience...guidelines say, no sponsor required to apply for a 212 visa, probably the fact they designated as a multiple-entry 'sosial visa' they added the sponsor to it.
as you might know 212, can be used/issued for several purposes.
