We have a Toyota Avanza S (1.5) from November 2009 with now 42,000 Km. It's a good car but rustic and true as Gilbert said wobbly in curves. The car is small on the outside perfect for Bali's traffic and big on the inside, it has 8 seats in 2 rows behind the driver, double blower AC and ABS. Until now we are happy with car and hadn't have any problems at all. When we bought the car we wanted the 1.5 liters engine and at least at that time it was only available on the Avanza S and didn't exist at the Xenia model. It's a good transporter but i found it ugly.

Balidavo, Thanks for your long answer, very interesting reading. I did have a look at the Toyota Avanza website a few days ago and i did see that the engine now only have 104 Horsepower's, our model from 2009 have 109 horsepower's as the Terios and Rush have. Maybe they did something to save fuel ? Interesting also that the Terios don't even have ABS brakes in any models. We have ABS but not Airbags that was also one of the reason for us to buy the Avanza S and not the Avanza G. I guess that you would like to buy An Avanza Veloz or a Rush S ? Please share your thoughts again on the forum. Andy

I agree with you, i'm not a big fan of motorbikes but in Bali i prefer to go by motorbike then by car due to the bad traffic. However we do need a car for family and to bring our two daughters around and a lot of space when friends and family visit us. I use a Honda Scoopy scooter but almost all the time my back hurts after 30 minutes maybe because it's made for Indonesian that are shorter than Western people? I think i will change my scooter to a new Honda PCX. Honda PCX 150cc 2012 Indonesia It seems to be more comfortable and looks like the scooter's in Europe. The price is Rp 32,000,000 i think. a new 150cc engine on the pcx is a vast improvement and was what that bike needed ......, the bike was previously a 125cc overweight and way way overpriced hippo , and the bells and whistles didnt justify the cost compared to what you could by for half the price ..., For an alternative to the pcx ( if its an auto your after ) and would suit a taller person , is the 125cc suzuki hayate ..., its the best value for your buck , and has good storage area too.

@ Andy , That was interesting to hear the older model 1.5 litre avanza once had the same power output as the rush . its only a guess ??? ..., but I guess the higher power ratings of the old avanza 1.5 litre verses the newer version , is maybe due to stricter emmision controll regulations from other countries where they maybe planing to open a new market for the model . Rather than have 2 exhaust systems with different emmision levels , they will often install only 1 type , but conforming to regulations to suit different areas . This usually puts a restriction to power output , but helps the environment .

Andy , just out of interest ??? as I value hearing the opinions of others :icon_wink: ..., after owning your avanza for a few years now ..., If you were to upgrade ..., Would you consider upgrading to the new [B]avanza veloz[/B] [U]1.5 liter[/U] , that toyota claims now has [U]improved suspention[/U] over previous models , plus other minor cosmetic improvements ..., [B]or[/B] ....., Would you consider paying extra , and moving up to a [B]toyota rush[/B] , that has the same engine as the avanza veloz , but with improved performance specs , slightly better suspention components , and a quieter cab ?

Balidavo, It's interesting that you ask. I have seen the new Toyota Avanza and honestly i don't care about the differences made inside and outside still looks more or less the same i think. I would like in the near future to test drive the Avanza Veloz and yes why not upgrade if it's a big difference but after driving the Avanza S you get use with the the way it handles. Before buying our Toyota we did hesitate between the Avanza S and the Rush S, we finally bought the Avanza S because it has 2 rows back and the Rush only got 1 row back and also because i would guess that the Rush is a more heavy car for a small engine of only 1.5 litres. Someone told me that if you pay a few extra millions they can put in a second row back in the Toyota Rush as well. I have considerate to maybe buy a Terios in the future with an extra row back i have to test drive that model as well. At least a Rush or a Terios in white looks more beautiful than the Avanza in my opinion. Andy

maybe different gearbox/gears...so the output at certain RPM is lower then before. drove a new sportage this weekend and can only say...very nice car. okay it's bit more expensive then the Rush, but imho worth every penny.

@ Andy , food for thought in comparisons ......., with the Diahatsu terrios ..., - youll get a few more plastic bits added , and the 3rd row seat , and the rear suspension is very slightly stiffened up to allow for the extra weight that the 3rd row passengers may add ..., but you can also purchase the 5 link component ( rush 4 link) and install it to a rush if wanted , as all spare parts are interchangable on both cars . ______________________________________________________________________________ With the more expensive Toyota rush ....., -some of those terrios freebies ( like 3rd row seat ,gps, side step, side panel strips , etc) ..., will be charged out by toyota as optional extras ....., - But note ; with the Rush S type , you do get - ABS brakes and air bags , but these are not available on any of the terrios models . - the interior of the rush is cosmetically more appealing than the grey terrios interior . I also noticed that ..., ( going by this website ; Daftar Harga Mobil Bekas & Baru, Bursa Dealer Mobil Indonesia, Jual Beli Mobil Seken ) After 3 years - the re-sale price between terrios and rush were almost the same ..., but the more expensive (ie; purchase price when new) toyota rush was valued more in the 1st and 2nd year . I imagine the indonesion buying public would sway more toward the rush regarding a quicker re-sale. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now back to the avanza 1.5 litre ...., - its weight is only about 100KG lighter than a S type Toyota Rush ( which is nothing really ) the exact same model 3SZ-VE , 1.5L,IL4,16V,DOHC,VVT-i engine - is installed in the rush/ terrios / and Avanza 1.5 litre cars ........, but the performance specs are higher for the rush/terrios , over the avanza specs ...., those being ; rush/terios - max output PS / RPM = 109 / 6000 - Max Torque KGM/RPM = 14.4 / 4400 VS ......................................................................................, Avanza 1.5 litre - max output PS / RPM = 104 / 6000 - max Torque PS/ RPM = 13.9 / 4000 Id love to know exactly what toyota have done to the engine to increace this performance ratio ? , I imagine the same mods could also be applied to the Avanzas engine (ie; if we knew what they were) Toyota also claims that rush has a quieter cabin than the avanza ....

I am considering the veloz or the rush s model , or perhaps a terrios adventure for the wife/ family car , based on value for money and upkeep costs . That where the original homework on these new models came from. But [B]if[/B] I personally did need a cheap runaround stictly for myself (im currently happy with a motorcycle due to the traffic ) id be swayed to a diahatsu gran max ute 1.5 litre , as they have legroom , and theyre only 110 juta with AC. Id get tray sides so it was more scratch proof . Itll be a bumpy ride , but I could live with that , and theyre easy and quick to sell afterwards . What id really like though ( dream on ) is the new ( not yet available ) 2012 ford ranger , which is a completely different car from top to bottom than the 2011 model ..., but in honesty I cant justify the expence for that car with the amount of use id actually get out of it. Cars cop a flogging here and get damaged easy , more expensive the car , more the headache ..., plus the traffic .... arrrrr .
