I think 1 mill is fair but I know of people who pay a lot less for their drivers[/QUOTE] I agree, Rp1 million seems to be the going rate for most drivers, pembantus or hospitality staff who have a basic grasp of the English language.

If I were you I would seriously consider driving yourself. I'm not being funny but ; Have you seen the way they drive over here? No test needed for a licence etc....Or of course get a Satpam [security general help] who can double up as a driver. Good luck.

Have to agree with Mat %100. I get my suzuki Jimmy (? - small jeep) for about 1.6 juta a month or about $160. If it dies they come and get it/me and no problems with insurance or the like. Haven't had any problems at all, really. The roads are such shite all I wanted was an AC really, anything else is just a waste of money or lack of courage:icon_wink:.Driving is such an adventure too - I recommend it to all, it's part of living in Asia. Hell, you want safe and sure stay in the west (Italy or Paris anyone?).

markit you are right, and kind of feel confidence again about driving in Bali. I'm from Venezuela and i think driving here is kind of similar like in Bali, i mean, people not respect always traffic lights, not always people have helmet while the drive a motorcycle, some roautes are very dangerous, etc, etc, etc.I will go to Bali on September with a scholarship with my family to stay for a year, I have two kids (2 yo and 3 months) so i guess i felt this "lack of courage" because of reading all this post. BUt I see a good option to rent a susuki Jimmy per month. I willing to live in Renon and i expect to enroll my older kid in Cheeky monkeys school in Sanmur and i Will study in Udayana University in Denpasar. Do you think it's a good idea to rent a car to leave the kid in the school and then go to teh university?

Cars I do, kids, rather not, thanks. :icon_rolleyes:
