For a family car - no....maybe a Toyota Kijang might be an alternative
If you're interested in a small car you might look at the Honda Jazz. I am very happy with mine. Bought it slightly used with 7,000km.

I also have a Honda Jazz - fantastic car, look small from outside, but lots of space for legs and head inside! New 1 costs also around 200 million Rupiah...

If you're after a family car go for a Diahatsu Zenia, 1.5 litre. They're around 145million. Or theres the Toyota Avanza which is the exact same car, made in the same factory and everything, just a different badge, for 20 million more. These are probably the most common car you see on the road today.

I agree that the Xenias/Avanzas are good value. The differences between them are details of extras fitted as well as the badge. Also, for not much more the Daihatsu Terios (same as Toyota Rush) are worth a look. They call them SUVs and they look a bit like 4WD - but they are not. We have had a Terios of 3 years and it has been good.

do you really need to buy?you can rent a brand new avensus /xentia for 385 US$ per month.this should cover basic maintenance too, and includes basic insurance.
BKT
You could pay one off in less than 4 years if your renting at $385 per month. If you're planning on staying for a while you're better off buying as the resale value doesn't drop all that much.

Car CostHi, Where did you get this cost from?

how much then would a driver be?
Depends whether you want a full-time driver, or are asking about casual rates. For casual rates, some ask Rp100,000 per day, while others may accept less. For a full time driver, I am unsure what the going rate is.
BKT
If you provide housing less than 400RP per month. Obviously non english speaking.

BKT
I would personally pay more but that is up to you

I think 1 mill is fair but I know of people who pay a lot less for their drivers
