jorzbali
Hello to you all,
Since I’ve been reading a lot of all your posts today, and have been sneaking around in personal profiles, I feel kind of obligated to introduce myself into this forum.
I just moved to Bali the beginning of this month leaving Holland and its depressing wintertime far behind me to work for a future life here. I would really like to meat up with some (preferable younger) people around the Sanur, Kuta area to have a drink and share some experiences about daily live here. If people are interested just let me know.
Kind regards
Bert Vierstra
Welcome Jorzbali !!

Welcome and hello!
PM me and I'd be glad to have a beer or two with you....
Although I must warn you I actually seem to work more now in Bali than in NY! How'd that happen?

I'd love to meet up, too - but I'll be away from this weekend for 10 days or more....
Welcome to Bali! Hey, life can be worse, eh?

Hi Balijeff , funny you say that about work, it's keeping me quite busy as well almost like NL. Although a lot of my hours are spent waiting due to jam kerat. I just learned to make use of it instead of trying to go in a useless battle. I'll send you a pm about the beer.
Staraquarias, thanks for the welcome, like to meet up with you as well after you are back. Have a nice time, and yes live can definitely be worse.....
Bert, thanks for the welcome!

Hey Jorzbali,
I am also a Dutchman and lived in Sanur for over 8 months, I know that life can be quite boring in Sanur, so if you need any tips of going out, shopping, dining or whatever feel free to ask. I will be for a longer period in Bali again coming March.
Take care in Bali!
Selamat datang!

have a good mood.I will get married on 2011, May 26th.Everyone has

Make sure you get a good wedding organizer with good vendors, there are a lot of organizers out there who make a lot of money off of foreigners using sub par vendors and charging them out at ridiculous prices. Luckily for me my wife is a wedding organizer and we organized ours our selves. I'd hate to think what it would have cost us if she didn't know what she was doing

Since you did ask for it - Don't!
Marriage is a woman's idea. (Niko if you are a woman ignore the following lol)
What benefit is there in it for men?
Does it guarantee that your children are yours?
Does it guarantee that they will remain yours?
Does it mean you will always have a place to call home?
Does it mean you will always have a place to sleep?
Does it mean you will even have clean cloths and a warm meal to home to?
Does it mean you will even get laid regularly? (Forget oral sex immediately the minute you say "I do")
My answer (big surprise) to all the above it FECK NO! Wake up and smell the Frangipani - keep her as a girlfriend and she will be duly motivated, marry her and you are lost!
The above is the advice of a man that has been happily married for 33 years :icon_biggrin: I know of what I speak!

don't actually understand what you mean with advice? could you be a bit more specific?
@markit...buddy, since you've been married now for over 33 years and still happily, there must be something making it worth it...right?
please enlighten me buddy, since I'm going to take the plunge the coming year...
btw, sorry I missed you this time around..hope to catch up with you next time your on the Island!
friendly greetings, gilbert.
Markit
You what? You are getting married Gil?
Yeah sorry to have missed you this time.
Marriage is shit - women are wonderful!
The 2 don't necessarily have anything to do with each other and I was lucky enough to have found the Best Woman in the World (BWW).
The marriage was so that if the children are called Bastards that its a form of address and not the truth...:icon_biggrin:
Keith Veness
Good morning. New members Keith and Yasmina from Australia introducing ourselves.
We are travelling to Bali on the 3Rd of January for 10 days to check our immigration agents and rental real estate agents.
We ate looking to retire in Bali around March 2018
Would be grateful for any recommendations in regards to agents.
Look forward to meeting new friends in the forum

Hi Keith and Yasmina (nice name) and welcome to the forum.
I'm not sure how much you already know about immigration into Indonesia but the only visa that requires an agent is the Retirement Visa....all others can be DIY which is much cheaper as agents charge anything they think you are prepared to pay....be careful.
If you can tell us a bit about your requirement you will probably get free and better info here from members.
Re: rental agents...there are many realtors all hungry for clients as it's a buyer's market....so don't be put off by asking prices....they are all negotiable. Another way is to go to restaurants, grocery stores etc.... anywhere 'bule' hangs out and look for adverts on the wall. Or peruse the Bali Advertiser...it's on-line and available every month in many of the same places the adverts are posted.

Thank you Davita
I cannot apply for a retirement Visa until October 2018. I was going to apply for 60 days visas until then, where is the best place in Bali to to apply for this type of visa? Keith

Hi Keith & Ydasmina, you ask about agents, since 2007 I use Bali IDE
http://www.bali-expat-business.com/ and have been happy.
Keith Veness
Thank you everyone.
Your information has been very helpful.
We would love to catch up with some Expats on our upcoming visit as we are very interested to hear your stories and get your advice. Please let me know if you are interested in catching up for a drink. Thanks Keith and Yasmina

Here are the types of visas available.
1. Free Visa on Arrival (VOA) lasts 30 days and not extendable
2. Paid VOA (US$35 or equivalent) lasts 30 days and is extendable for another 30 days (US$35).
3. Tourist Visa available from the nearest RI Embassy/Consul to where you live. Lasts 60 days but not extendable...but I have known it to be extended in Bali if a sponsor is found.
4. Social Budaya Visa (Sosbud) available from the nearest RI Embassy/Consul to where you live. Is initially for 60 days and IS extendable monthly for up to 6 months. Needs a sponsor letter to apply.
My recommendation is to apply where you live for the tourist visa (google the Embassy/Consul for details for application). When in Bali try to find a suitable friend or an agent (for a fee) who will sponsor for a Sosbud extension then try your luck...if that doesn't work plan B is to leave Indonesia...maybe Singapore/Malaysia and immediately return for another free or paid VOA.
October isn't that far for you to interview a few agents for the retirement visa while you are here....there are many agents and I've known some foreigners who were not yet qualified by age to actually get a retirement kitas.
