drbruce
Roy,
Thanks for the kind words over in the BaliNuts forum. I'm in a slight bind here as we are still in lockdown mode, and I can't leave the mining camp. My kids' kitas are about to expire, and we need to get them a kitap, but my eldest daughter needs to have her passport renewed. She doesn't want to leave school, and I can't leave the island. Can you send me the name of the new American Consul and his email address. I want to let him know that my wife is on her way there tomorrow with my passport to renew Mercedes' passport and hopefully clarify the situation so that he knows that everything is on the up and up. You know how when it rains it pours. That seems to be the theme of the week.
Thanks for the help.
Bruce
Bert, I’m sorry, but I have a big, big problem “respectfully” disagreeing with posts made here which are a billion percent off target, and inaccurate
I have a big big problem with you not respectfully disagreeing.
Next time, you will be set inactive for a minimum of one month.
Is your sabbatical over now?
Roy

That sounds reasonable enough to me, and likely way too minimal to many of the ignorants that are lurking here. It’s up to you.
Frankly Bert, I don't give a shit.
charlie
i have kept quiet over the past few days and was happy for you when you decided to take your 'sabbatical' Oom Roy, but i am rapidly losing any respect i had for you, but by the sounds of it you wouldn't care anyway ...
Roy
Sorry Charlie, but your “respect” for me is meaningless. Respect has absolutely nothing to do with a good and rich life here. Understanding is the operative word, and within my Balinese family, I have plenty. I could care less if other westerners respect me, or understand me. It's all mute to me.
Also, I could care less about my reputation on this forum. It is without meaning, and has nothing to do with my daily life.
While you all “wish you could” you can think of us that made it happen. In a nut shell Charlie, that’s what it is all about here, isn’t it?
Nges Daya Kembali
I have been following the forum for since a Balinese friend at uni sent me the link. I asked her if she was a member but she is doesn't want to be put in a position where she can be openly abused, called ignorant, disrespected for her views or which village she comes from or her decision to live outside of Bali.
I can understand she feels this way. Maybe that's why other expats too don't want to join this forum. I am sure there are many and they don't belong to the incestuous group of lushes down at Nuris.

I believe you do care and that you also care about the forum and the people in it. You just need to be a bit more tolerant. I noticed before you "left" that you were very beligererant and it would seem then that you needed a break.
I would ask you sincerely not to burn your bridges as you are needed here and also I think you need us too.
So come on and just let things go.

Roy,
I really had a good laugh, when I read about your sabbatical, your intention to gain purification in a phase of mediation – thanks for this!
This week I was betting with some guys at Nuri’s, that your sabbatical would not even last 2 weeks, looks like I won the bet.
Remember very well one of your most favourite phrases –“you can get the boy out of the Bronx, but you cannot get the Bronx out of the boy”- that’s it, to quote Bert, sorry Roy, but you simply lack any manners and like many others here I’m also getting tired of this now.
Best regards, especially to Eri

Fine.
Roy has been set to inactive.
froggy
Well, I can tell you one thing about Roy- he really does care for people, its just kinda easy to bash on someone on the computer or over the phone (for some)--- he's a littlle different in person, even though he sticks to his views as though they came down from the burning bush- thats his way.....This post has gone pesonal- more so than I thought was allowed.....but I still find it a good read---- but please keep family & kid bashing out of it-thats going way too far, and I feel a few people should go on a sabbatical.... Roy, the path to enlightenment is not through condescension and hubris. Mocking others who are not as fortunate as yourself is as damaging to yourself as it is to those you mock.
I am concerned for you as you seem so angry at the moment, it’s been going on for a while now and is reflected in your posts on this forum. The source of that anger is not the ignorance of the posters here, it is too much for that.
You have so much to contribute, whether on this forum or elsewhere. If you are occuring in this way here, it must also be reflected in other aspects of your life. I truly hope you are able to work through what-ever is going on for you at the moment and get past whatever it is you’re embroiled in.

Roy will not be able to read this section, its only accessible by members.

bert,,,I think he came back too soon, he was lurking around anyways... his eyes are really bothering him, and he does seem a little cranky lately,,, I m sure he will be ok soon..... but what more can he contribute to the forum? that hasnt been said already? new members just have to search- its all there--- anyways he is alot different in person- and very caring-- but no one should have mentioned his kids back in the states! that was way out of line..... Frog,,,, Oh- Hi Freo ,, Jimbo
Tim
I have never met Roy in person, "but I read between the lines" with most of his postings and as Froggy mentioned, I believe Roy to be a good hearted person as well. He can certainly be confrontational and opinionated at times but I "truly respect his deep commitment to his village, his family and in his concerns for Bali".
Freo, Jimbo and Frog's comments were compassionate, fair and deserving and Bert, I know you had no other choices.....
When the "time is right", let's be happy to see him back.
Best regards,
Tim

Its not only lately Frog.
Over the years I (and Mats) have been begging him to be more friendly many many times.
Sometimes he seemed to have got the message, but he messed up later again.
While I appreciate his many contributions, there is a limit.
To me it seems that Roy also kept people from joining and posting, and in the past it has shown that people leave the forum because of Roy.
I have been seriously considering to permanently banning Roy since yesterday. Maybe its time for a change. Roy has been dominating the forum, but in all his "character" has caught the most attention. While appreciated by some, I guess most however rather see him go.
There are many people caring about Bali and its ways, and people that show a bit more respect for others in doing so.
While he always defends "the Bali way" he many times didn't behave Balinese, at least not on the forum.
Bert Vierstra
I also would hate to see Roy go permanently. But I already told him, that if he after march 4 will behave the same, he leaves me no choice.
Aliceinbali
hmm I dunno.. but most forums are filled with people who do that. Regardless of what kind of forum or topic it is.
Its sucks but its true.

Well I am a professional dog trainer and breeder. So I visit alot of dog forums and there are people on every single one that plays Doggy Hitler. Each has people ranting, venting, making personal attacks and being know it all's. Sadly the internet lends itself for people to show a side of their self they never would any other way but the internet. I am not saying Roy or anyone else here is like that, but It does'nt surprise me that it happens here sometimes. Personally I have found this forum to be most pleasant even though I too have been under fire by some people in the past.
PS Allan thats goregous pic of you and your lady.

I am with Allan. Cyber bullying is a major problem and it has been know for people to commit suicide over it as recent cases in the UK attest.
All bullying is wrong in a civilised society and should not be tolerated. The motto is that there is always someone bigger, stronger than you. I know of no one who likes to take it so ergo it should not be given.
