I went to my dvd shop the other day shutters down but they were letting in customers they knew. It happens from time to time. They will be open again as normal soon.

Balibo is the story of some Australian journalists that were killed in East Timor during the Indonesian invasion. Although banned it is still easy to find the DVD here.

aahh, okidoki mimpi...is it pretty recent right, that those journalist we're killed? I think I have read something about it, but am not sure...since recently there was also a couple of journalist from australia in Timor, wich were deported for not having a license to film. or something like that..

No this happened back in the 70s but the movie is recent.
gilbert de jong

I havent watched nearly as many new ones since we got Indovision here in Bali. Before that I never watched any TV only movies.... I have seen most that we have at Mimpi Manis except for the small collection of Indonesian and Bollywood movies.I have Flixster on FB and usually rate all movies that I watch on there - I havent watched a lot lately but a few that I would recommend are Balibo, 2012 and Harry Brown. There are a few I am waiting to get. New Moon - which they don't have copies of here yet it seems. Lovely Bones which they have but were sold out this week and Alice in Wonderland which is due out in March :)

Since I am in or near Sydney at present I have got to some real cinemas. Saw Avatar 3D in and Imax cinema - spectacular - but expensive - the concession price for "Seniors" was about Rp 195,000 - you can get more than 20 DVDs for that in Bali. Also have seen Nowhere Boy - about John Lennon, and Broken Embraces, a Spanish movie with Penelope Cruz.

I can recommend Harry Brown too. Many of the movies I buy sound interesting but turn out to be cr*p. One movie I enjoyed recently was "Orphan". I do miss going to the movies, even if it is expensive. I know the Balibo story, but was the movie any good?
mimpimanis
I didn't know the story so found the movie interesting - as was the girls reaction to it and the knowledge that Indonesia has banned it. Mind you their reaction to Harry Brown was something too, I had to explain not all of London is like that!We bought Avatar but it isn't a good copy so we are waiting till they get better ones, to watch it.

Find a interest pic for Avatar & Titanic, which one you think better?

Not a movie but great nevertheless on youtube a 6 parter from BBC Horizon - the secret life of dogs. Some fascinating stuff about why man's best friend is man's best friend. And though the show doesn't make a big deal about it we do share a lot of DNA and time together. Even makes the case convincingly that if we hadn't become such good buddies we (homosaps) might not be where we are now.Download it and enjoy, and thank your local wuffy.

It's not a 6 parter as in 6 hours but a 6 parter as in youtube broken into 6 bits to make 1 hour long.Find a interest pic for Avatar & Titanic, which one you think better?
Titanic was the most boring film of all time but I would love to give Avatar a try - couldn't fit it in timewise in Singapore but should be coming here? Checked in that joke for a cinema in Galeria but only Indo-rubbish there. Anybody have another suggestion? Is there another cinema on the island?

I'm not there A movie about Bob DylanA bit confusing in the beginning because of the fragmentary storyline, but in the end it all comes together. Great visuals/ shots.A movie I don't hate, but I have to watch it again to have a better feel.***
