Excuse me asking but if "Septic Tank Bastard" is a term of affection, what do you say to people you really don't like?
Depends where you are from..for me the word you are looking for is "Victorians" :lol: :lol: :lol:
Seriously ......how did we get sooooo far off topic???
Jimbo
It is a joy of the forum. Sometimes they go full circle and get back on topic :D :x
Markit
So if I understand you correctly Aqua - people you just can't stand you call "Victorians". What's wrong with Victorians? What did they ever do to you? Besides develop steam engines, rail travel, electricity, mathematics, a system of laws, police, etc. etc. ad infinitum.
Other than the maths thing I can't really see a reason to hate them, personally. Now the Jacobeans theres a bunch you can really get the hate engine out for - powdered wigs, makeup on men, Nancy cloths and peeing in the corner during dinner - well, I'm speechless (printless?)

I think Aquaman means the aussie Victorians, as in the state of Victoria! We all hate them, its cold there, bad beer, they even have the swine flu flooding through the place. They deserve it! :twisted:
aquaman
Yes i was referring to Victorians as in from the state of Victoria in Oz :evil: Goldminer being a WA boy appreciates the sentiment. "Kick a Vic" is a popular term :lol:
Re the purpose of this thread I'm heading back to Bali next month and will visit among other places our favourite spot Amed. Not sure if we'll live there yet but I'm looking forward to continuing tbhe little womans snorkeling/swimming training. Hopefully no giant octopus attacks this time :lol:

I'm with you Dasha. So glad to be back. I'm in Sanur mostly, but off to a friends village near Ubud for a ceremony for a few days, then off to Lebongan for a week. I love that place!!!

If i had known you were coming to gods country Dasha, i would have been there to give you a real welcome :roll: But you are right, Perth airport set up needs a lot of improvement. The govt keeps threatning to revamp it... dont hold ya breath!
And i do agree, anywhere in Bali is great, just some places are prefered by different people.
Have a great time Dasha :)

Now now Goldy and Aqua. No need to have a dip at us Vicos. As a matter of fact I had my 1st stopover ever at Perth airport yesterday and what’s going on with that place. You have to get a bus from the domestic to the international terminal. WA could learn to do what we have done and put the 2 together with among other things – some decent food and beverage facilities.
BTW don’t ever ever ever fly Virgin on an international route. Or Jetstar as my son and fiancé told me when they got in here later last night too. Gimme Garuda anyday for service and a smile.
Ok gotta head down to get a bike and find that dangerous man Johhny Cool on this fine Bali Sunday morning. And to get back on topic you can put me anywhere in Bali – it’s just so good to be back here. 8)

To be honest Goldminer WA rocks. Wish I could get the time to get up north to The Bluff and some stuff like this first day here at Uluwatu - taken 5 hours ago

And I'm tipping Sooze that Shipwrecks Lacerations and Playgrounds will be not far off this perfection when you get there to Lembongan later on in the week.
Enjoy :D

An interesting trawl through this topic, Favorite place to live in Bali and some gems, e.g., can anybody tell me what a "sceptic tank" is? (Probably a typing error; sorry mimpimanis.)
I'm not sure why some expats are posting details of the places they love and live in. Wouldn't that be counter-productive? If you've found a great, quiet, beautiful location, wouldn't it be better to keep it a "secret" before the hordes descend upon you?
I've been living in "The South" of Bali for many years. It has its ups and downs, like everywhere else but basically, it still is Bali, horns and all (I agree with Adam's comments).
Some of the factors responsible for the general mess that Southern Bali finds itself in include:
* A growing tourist market, especially over the last 35 years
* Investors from Jakarta, (not always sensitive to Balinese culture)
* Corrupt practices
* Over-population
* Lack of proper planning
* Poor infra-structure
* Gross mismanagement
* Balinese "compliance", "apathy" or just being "powerless"
Dasha's take reflects what many of us already feel:
Ok gotta head down to get a bike and find that dangerous man Johhny Cool on this fine Bali Sunday morning. And to get back on topic you can put me anywhere in Bali – it’s just so good to be back here.
A nice sentiment. However, I can't agree with it completely. There are some dreadful places you can end up in and find yourself having to put up with incessant noise pollution (eg, karaoke bars, discos and wired-for-sound local "cafes"). And the power that some banjars wield doesn't always have the best interests of the locals at heart, (not even a recognisable priority, at times.)

No, I admit not a typo - just me being dense :roll:
