Bali? Fast pace? Where? I've never seen it
The only point I was trying to make is that you Ozzies are a little limited to where you can go to get into the "fast lane". I am told that the south of the island is such a place - I admit that I'm relying on hearsay evidence to back this up cause my Zimmer Frame won't navigate around the chasms in the sidewalk there :(
Yes, true enough, but we only have ourselves to blame for that. It never used to be like that. 'Back in the day' when most of the tourism seemed to be Aussie in origin the development was nothing like the blight that occurs today
Please tell me you are not trying to blame those fecking POMS, Europeans, Japs, Chinese, Yanks, etc., etc. for ruining the beloved and virgin Bali that you Ozzies left in our inept hands?
By the way the Balearics are still pretty nice islands to visit and live on. The lesson to be learned from them is that to make it too expensive for Mr. Normal to live there and restrict his visits to certain areas (dare I say tourist ghettos) like Kuta, Jimbaran, etc. Asbestos G-string is firmly clamped in place

To a certain extent, yeah, absolutely. Can't be bothered going into detail right now but. And it certainly aint personal, just my own thoughts and observations.

Is that not exactly whats occurring in Bali, just at an earlier stage of being destroyed?
Markit
Yeah, but my point was that they HAVEN'T BEEN DESTROYED.
Phewww, glad I'm learning patience here in Bali, now I know why.
Adam
Yeah, but my point was that they HAVEN'T BEEN DESTROYED
Sorry, but if you can't look around you and see whats going on in Bali as being unsustainable, then heaven help us, we might as well condemn the poor island now and be done with it.
How long have you observed whats been going on in Bali? A year, max??? Compared to what it used to be, the place is farked, get it  .
How long before the rot that exists in the south crawls its way up the mountains and over the top?
Never mind, the millions of retiring baby boomers that made there original habitats miserable holes will just move on to the next island, right?
Markit
Don't start picking on us poor old baby-boomers there's lots of us around and we may move on to Australia and then ask you all to leave.
And just think, who would have you - except good old England
I'm sure we would get on famously with the Abbos - we have lots of multiracial experience, after all  Hell, one would probably be president/prime minister/head-honcho or whatever he wants to be called within a week or two of us taking over.
We could make it into the worlds biggest golf course (or sand trap!), wow - the mind boggles.

Please don't  and although I'm not into political correctness I'll point out, incase you didn't know, be careful how you refer to our indigenous cousins here in Oz....the "A" word here is akin to the "N" word is to African Americans.

Withstanding being called a racist, it never ceases to amaze me that an Australian can be an Aussie, a Scotsman can be a Scot, an American can be a Seppo, but you can't call an Aboriginal an Abbo!
Weird Aye? :o
Markit
WTF is a Seppo? Yank, Ami, OK but Seppo... never heard that one. What does it stand for?
Oh, the only people that I haven't heard calling aborigines "Abbos" are anybody in public (or public forums). In private it's always Abbo in my experience.
These things go in and out of fashion - does anybody remember The Black and White Minstrel Show? Terrible tv but worse taste - measured on today's standards

I don't make the rules but as you know that's how it is.
While i'm up with my slang I've never heard anyone ever use "Seppo" before. It's perhaps from previous generations? Markitt for your benefit:
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=seppo
And oh BTW this forum isn't private

I had a look at the link and have to say as a Brit it is not a term I have ever heard used before either.
calitobali
I'm American and I've never heard the term "seppo" before. I don't even have the slightest of a clue of where a word like that would come from, the rest of them that he said seem to fit whether or not politically correct, but I can't figure that one out. I'm not a big "American defender" either, even being from there. Hopefully it can be explained, although I doubt it's that important as no one else understands it either.
goldminer
We in oz like to ryhme everything, so a yank becomes a septic tank , hence seppo  Any aussies disagree?
Adam
Spot on, Goldminer! 8)
Lately it seems to be most commonly (affectionately) extended to "Seppo bastard/s", probably a reaction to the events of the last few years

Well a little poll of my UK & Aussie freinds on Facebook last night had most of them never having heard of it. One Aussie friend said her grandfather knew what it meant. And one Irish friend came up with the answer and posted the urban dictionary link... so I think thats where he got it from rather than knowing it. Definitely sounds more aussie slang to me. Cockney rhyming slang - we would still say sceptic - rather than change to seppo, I am sure.

Yes it’s an Aussie thing. Like “me old Chine”. It’s a term of endearment to a good mate.
Chine meaning China. And China meaning china plate – hence china plate.. mate!
Hey Adam ….me and the “cheese and kisses” ("tin lids" are going direct from Tulla) will be jetting into Perth tomorrow morning on the way to Bali tomorrow arvo. I bet when I get off the plane I’ll be a bit sweaty under the old “Warrick Farms”.
Next week I will catch up with a few infamous "Seppos" at Nuris and suck down a few "tinnies" of the old VB. 8)

Hi Dash,
No worries cobber, just had a bo' beep at ya message after knockin' back a chesse snagga and a dead dogs eye with some dead horse, great tucker for smoko.
What a crack up, made my afternoon. Catch ya round like a rissole, almost stubbie time 8)

Excuse me asking but if "Septic Tank Bastard" is a term of affection, what do you say to people you really don't like?

Your right Markit! I actualy wondered about Adam's reply.... where i come from, most seppo"s are not regarded affectionately
