You did put a smile on my face with the phrase above because it's funny.Since I'm not voting, my stance on this do not count but yes, I do like her for the woman she is as inmho she is a role model who could inspire a lot of young women too. I need to say that I'm not with her on every issue as it would be hypocritical of me to say that. Fate has me otherwise in a sense that I don't live that typical traditional life as a woman. But I support her for the way she is conducting herself very well in regards to her personal life and who in her own way is trying to do good. So, it's rather infantile to see men who mock her for her hunting and shooting because after all, she didn't live in Manhattan or Hollywood all her life. She lives in Alaska since she was a 3-month old baby. I hope that speaks volume avoiding being said "rambling" by Mr. Daniel again. I wish you the very best on your operation, Daniel. But anyway, even prior to her nomination, I did favour John McCain as you could see at the beginning of the thread (Obama and Biden). You could see there that I'm not in this for being that "other kind" of feminist as I favour the Republicans be men or women but when Palin came into the picture, I'm elated. It's just a windfall! The real feminists are those men-haters/bashing and I'm just so way out of that league.Enough of my two-cent here.

The real feminists are those men-haters/bashing and I'm just so way out of that league... Sorry Milan, are you saying that a REAL FEMINIST is a man hating/ basher???

And that is extraordinarily not inspirational for woman. If my daughter grew up seeing her as a role model I'd be very worried.

Sorry Milan, are you saying that a REAL FEMINIST is a man hating/ basher???
Alright, Bolli. I take down a notch. I think I'm overstating it but my imagination ran wild... :)Most woman I know would consider that a pretty horrendous thing to do to a rape victim. And that is extraordinarily not inspirational for woman. If my daughter grew up seeing her as a role model I'd be very worried.
Well, SG. I leave it to common-sense now. As I say, I'm not with her on EVERY issue.
SG
Well, SG. I leave it to common-sense now. As I say, I'm not with her on EVERY issue.
But, given what you gave as your reasoning for supporting her, isn't that a rather massive point of difference. I can't see how any sort of feminist could support her at all after that.
SG
All this has however been cast into the shadows by the financial turmoil today as the Bush economy staggers, almost on the point of collapse. Whilst the whole world will hurt (but maybe not China and Japan quite so much..China announced that they have 2 trillion dollars in the bank this weekend) I feel for the middle Americans Jim talks of as I think it will hit there hardest.

And I don't think she would be that inflexible as to close one eye on those young girls who are raped and not give them their right to abort because it all depends on case by case basis. She is attractive and not only that, her family too and one hidden/secret power she has which seems to attract many white men are her husband. Not only that but most of the American ladies I know just adore him as much as their husbands who could identify themselves to his life/position as a staying-at-home-dad. It's the whole package as far as I see and that's what many people find very appealing. Remember, perception is also the key to this whole campaign. Added by this group who call themselves "the sleeping giant". Most of the rural heartland part of America's housewives who find themselves someone they finally feel could represent them including those who have special needs children. She simply covers a wide base of America as a result the continuing John McCAin's increasing poll. The more the media scrutinize and belittle or finding faults in her, the more voters she seems to attract. So, it's a phenomena by and large and it's just so fascinating to watch and especially soon it's the debate. And so, SG, as much as I like you, especially you're such a connaisseur in Restaurants, I still can't allow myself to agree with you politically... So, how about that we remain friends :D.Ciao.

And her charging for rape exams is only a couple of steps away the Saudis and Taliban locking women up for being raped. There was polling yesterday that had here positive down to 42% from 59% a week ago, and it was taken before all the lies and the WaPo & MYT stories of the weekend came out, so I guess the sheen is wearing off. 48% didn't like her which goes with McCain's quickly falling polls since last week. RCP has him only 1% ahead now, down from 5%.

BaliLife, I have an idea regarding our bet. In an effort to see something at least mildly good come out of the outcome of the elections...be it McCain or Obama, how about we each agree to donate our winnings to The Helen Flavel Foundation? In that way, regardless of who wins, the real benefactors will be some Balinese kids up Bert's way.If McCain wins, I'll donate the money, and if Obama wins, you donate the money. You can reply by way of PM if you rather...or, you may have a more "close to heart" charity that you would rather see your winnings go to...which is fine by me.
great idea - actually i had the same thought last week, but didn't have a particular charity in mind.. HFF is fine with me..ct

BaliLife,McDonald's? Are you kidding? The golden arches are the very symbol of failure. How honorable and admirable is life as an uneducated slave? I wouldn't even entertain the thought in regards to my own children.Unfortunately, the class system in this country is quite alive and well making life as an indentured servant/slave subsisting on unskilled labor positions, an inescapable fact of life for most. Thanks to the republican war machine, a large majority the servant/slave class are now homeless. Their next homes will be quite smaller than before and stamped with the words THIS END UP!Being elected to the office of the president for Obama will be akin to tumbling into a raging river, he'll be caught up in the current and swept along whether he wants to be or not. Nothing will change in fact, with his god-awful lack of experience things could get much worse.Don

sumatra, on this matter there is not a single point we agree on.. the very fact that obama has achieved all that he has IN AN ETHICAL MANNER is proof that he has the integrity required to lead the US..Education, charisma, ethics and will - exactly what is needed.. The alternative (Mccain) possesses NONE of these attributes.. I think you and people like you have masterfully created a fictional account of why you feel Obama is not viable by citing experience, etc, instead of just coming out and saying that you won't vote for him because he's black.. It would be more respectful if you would just drop the BS and tell it how it is.. you're not alone there.. I heard someone say the other day, "Obama has the burden of being black".. Among idiots, yes i suppose it is a burden..ct

BaliLife,Your implication that I'm racist is rather silly considering the well-known fact that I'm in an interracial marriage presently, with my lovely Indonesian wife. Big O is too squirmy and wiggly to nail down, there are so many conflicting stories in the media regarding his Afro-American/Arabic heritage it's impossible to make any determination of his background or true loyalties thus, it's been irrelevant all along, at least to me anyway. What is relevant is that he refuses to pledge allegiance to the US flag. This demonstrates the utmost in disrespect for the very country he's aspiring to become Commander and Chief of. It's ok to throw out the dirty bathwater but not the baby with it!If at one time, he did embrace the tenets of Islam (there is some compelling evidence that he did) why would he go to such great lengths to publicly deny this? Why would he be ashamed of his muslim history? Big O has brothers and sisters in Africa but he didn't invite a single one of them to celebrate after his democratic nomination when he could have well afforded to. Why is that? If such a great honor had been bestowed upon me, I would have brought my whole Indonesian family over to celebrate with me. What is this guy hiding? When you wrote of ethics in your post, were you referring to Big O's financial dealings with the well-known influence peddler Tony Rezko? Sorry, but I'm having a very difficult time finding any integrity in this deal. I could go on forever with reasons to avoid this guy like the plague and skin color wouldn't even be on the list. Several of my nieces and nephews in Sumatra are very dark skinned and Om Don loves them all the same.Don :D

I am hesitant to come on and tell you that I was unsuccessful in seeing Obama....but I was unsuccessful. I was outside the the facility but I was unable to get in...Hopefully I can arrange another try at seeing him as there is still a few weeks left and I will be in about 15 states at my discretion...I will make it my mission! I have a sign already to go!
