This is closer to what I meant but I like others am tired of the Indonesia bashing and I wanted to make a positive rather than a negative statement about them whilst at the same time trying to explain. I see many people come to the UK or even here in Kazakhstan and it is none stop moaning about the people, the country, the politics etc. So I say again to all that if you do not like it why come here. You cannot vote, enter politics or even own a house so what does the complaining do
Because it's only complaining if you look at it negatively. Myself, I'd feel like less of a person if I simply stuck my head in the sand and ignored things no matter the country. Many of us live here and on a day to day basis see and deal with things..and talk extensively with people who both have Indonesian blood and don't see a problem with this. As I said in another thread, how you can ignore things that one feels strongly enough about is beyond me...such as the death rate with kids and water borne diseases, or the death and injury rate on the roads. I also comment regularly elsewhere in politics in the Middle East, in the US and other places. Many educated people do and it plays to an ugly xenophobia to demand that people don't.
How it becomes Indonesia bashing is beyond me...sorry Jimbo I simply don't agree and I don't think you've made a case that we should. There is rather more to life than entering politics or owing a house and some of us do have relationships with people who can vote (although not myself), the lack of any of those doesn't remove our right, in a free society, to comment.
