Well my euphoria did not last long and I only had to wait TWO days to come back to planet earth, to the real world. On March 19, 2008, Obama gave a speech outlining his foreign policy ideas, which, of course, generated very little public discussion. This is in line with the public's general disinterest in substantive policy issues and its preference for superficial issues: none of the leading US newspapers, let alone the" idiot box," mentioned it. Again, Obama's was brilliant, but I should have known better. Whoever is the President of the United States, when everything is said and done, he or she must conform to the will of the corporations and to the military-industrial complex, which is a policy designed for world hegemony. What people in this US of A call "the neoconservative agenda," the rest of the World calls it the "American imperialism." American foreign policy, especially since WWII, has nothing to do with TRUE conservatism and everything to do with imperialism. So, after listening to Obama today, I must say that, as with his other speech on race two days before, he has shown a most lucid and clear mind, a definitely superior intelligence, and this most lucid and clear mind, this superior intelligence will be applied for a more of the same, so why should I have expected something different from Obama?   I would add that Obama's approach will most likely succeed in untangling the US from the Iraqi swamp, but he is still fooling himself if he thinks the US together with some of its NATO partners will ever prevail in Afghanistan and the Northern territories. For those of you interested, you can watch Obama's speech at http://www.videosift.com/video/Obama-on ... ty-3192008

I seemed to have some trouble; here's the article link again...sorry about that!http://www.videosift.com/video/Obama-on-National-Security-3192008

Excellent post Tintin, and unfortunately very true. I'm waiting to see how CNN 360 covers this speech. That will be on in just a few hours. As you know, they did an excellent job of covering his recent speech on race.
JUDY
The race is getting uglier by the minute. Hillary and Bill will stop at nothing! Hillary supporters say if she is not the nominee they will vote for Mc Cain and Obama's supporters state they will simply not vote. Believe the percentages are approximately 28% respectively on either side. Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid state they are currently working out a solution. hmm wonder what it will be? Hopefully Obama's last speech was only to pacify the shadow government? Time will tell.
Roy
And the worse thing Judy is that there are more than three weeks for this blood letting to continue before the next primary in Penna. If polls are to be believed, it is Hillary who suffered the most by this Rev. Wright fiasco. And boy, wasn't it fun watching her "eat her words" over the Bosnia affair?
tintin
Yes, this is becoming scary. If 28% of the Clinton's or Obama's supporters stick to their guns and will not vote for any other Democratic candidate but theirs, then McCain is in. The Democrats will have once more done themselves in, snatching a defeat from the jaws of victory. If you thought G.W. Bush was bad, wait till you see McCain. To someone with a hammer in his hand, everything looks like a nail. McCain is indeed a scary fellow, with a violent temper who has demonstrated in his many speeches on foreign policy that he is 100% in bed with the neocons.
Roy
Hopefully the pundits that have been kicking this issue around on CNN will be right in that once a candidate is selected by the Democrats, there will be unity in the party against John McCain. Most of those pundits are calling that poll the "bitterness poll" and reflective only of the current animosity between Clinton and Obama. As you know, there is further speculation that this is in Obama's favor because it may force the super delegates to show their hand, possibly even before the Penna primary next month. I agree this is indeed getting scary when considering the worse case scenario you mentioned. IMHO what will matter the most is how the candidate who lost the nomination handles her, or himself in accepting the defeat in a dignified manner, and lending full and unqualified support to the party choice. For whomever that is, that will be the real test of their metal...no doubt about it. "Eri! You need to make more offerings to Saraswati!"
Markit
Democrat or Republican; it is like having the choice between Pest and Cholera - but doesn't really matter at all. Whoever it may be, what's really important is how they act to America's new owners - the Chinese. All you US expats out there - better start looking for a new place to go back to.   maybe Mexico will take you in if you promise to work real hard?
Roy
I often wonder why we bothered to bail your butts out of two world wars. I guess it was guilt over smacking your brains silly during our revolution, and the war of 1812. Your Isle Ingres would be under water, or the populous speaking German, if it wasn't for American blood, or are you too nave to accept history? :P Sorry pal, but I'm in Bali permanently, and for certain, you aren't.
JUDY
Markit, Roy is right on. Remember your history or did you forget how America bailed your butt out of two world wars. How soon you forget!!! We also beat your butts in the American Revolution. Secondly, the Chinese have obviously sunk their deep claws into America financially speaking; however, England is not free from foreign intanglement!! You guys seem to have a major influx of foreign elements on your soil...Indian and Arab. (Not certain about the Chinese). Never-the-less, American leaders have been complete idiots regarding economics both internal and global. They only care about lining their own pockets for themselves and the lobbiests Considering what has occured over the last 35 years since Ronnie boy took office; are indebtedness to the Chinese commenced at that point. ( As the old saying goes, ignorance is bliss and Ronnie was lead like a dog on a leash by those who put him in office) 70% of most Americans were totally blind to the reality of the situation then and now. Fast forward...American in 2008 has sold out completely to the Chinese and to some extent the Japanese. Every empire eventually falls. America seems to be have commenced the free fall position (term used in parachuting) without a parachute!!  Tinton, your word speak volumes pertaining to Mc Cain. He truly is a tool for the neocons. I believe if elected Bush and Chaney will continue as the real people in power and he will simply be their front man. World War III is their agenda.Their is just something about Hillary that turns my stomach. Her comment regarding Bosnia, "I say a million things a day" her voice deadpan, " I misspoke." She forgot about the power of the internet finding out in short order of her downright lie. Give me a brake!!! Is she claiming dementia?? It truly backfired on her. Now the so called polls reflect a negative response for Hillary. She is a scorpio; therefore, when a scorpio stricks out negatively against another they are stung back tenfold by their own stinger. Law of the universe. hahah Someone mentioned on Air America Radio, the only liberal, progressive radio station in America that the polls sound somewhat bogus. My consensus is the same. Where does the major networks obtain these so called polls. I have never been polled. Secondly, the networks state McCain is currently leading. BS Come on people, tell the masses something long enough, loud enough, and eventually they will believe the crap you shove down their throats.Tell Eri Roy to work nonstop until we have Obama as are nominee; and to protect him against evil forces who wish to take him out. Few comments on the last few posts, including mine.28%. I think I spoke (or wrote) too fast on that one. I believe that the presstitutes are spreading this gossip in order to steer up the doodoo, so as to continue the manufactured "suspense" as long as possible: the people need a circus above all, so the media provide. The media love it because (a) it increases the sell of newspapers and TV ratings, and (2) they feel important manipulating the news. So, after some reflection, I retract here my earlier statement, as I believe that, except for few morons, most of those who voted for Hillary or Barak will still vote for the chosen Democrat candidate (well...hopefully) :) .Hillary Clinton. I have been following closely the rise and (impending) fall of Clinton, and I cannot fool myself: the ascendance of Obama and the fall of Clinton have been, to a large extend, the result of manipulations by the US media. I am aware that many Obama supporters do not want to hear this, but if you repeat long and often enough "bitch, bitch, bitch, she's a bitch," soon she becomes a bitch. Her path to the nomination has become an uphill battle, which she is gallantly fighting. Hats off. This comment (just a comment mind you) in answer to Roy's and Judy's latest comments. Your remark to Markit about the Americans saving the English's asses during WWII when Markit dared to criticize, justly or wrongly, the USA is a cope out and totally out of place. I have been at the receiving end more than once of such remark myself, regarding the French who "would be speaking German if it was not for us, Americans."First, neither Roy nor Judy was even born during WWII, so you are taking credit for "saving the English butts" by a convenient association, but you had absolutely nothing to do with it. Second, Carl von Clausewitz famously wrote almost two hundred years ago that "war is a continuation of politics by other means." The United States entered WWI and WWII after much reflection and certainly not out of altruism, but in both instances because of self interests. But you don't have to take my word for it. A huge amount of books, documents, etc analyzing these two wars are available to prove it. That these interests coincided with the interests of England, France, and many other countries was a happy consequence. I would safely say that most French people who lived through the German occupation are grateful for the US help in liberating their country, and I am sure it is also the case in England. I know that my family (I only appreciate it in retrospect, as I was 7 years old then), including my father who spent FIVE years in a prisoners' camp in Germany (Stalag 9C, near Leipzig) has always been most grateful to the Allies, including the Americans, for their sacrifice. But this is the past, and it should not prevent the criticism of the US Government when these same people feel that the US policies are wrong.By the same token, I could say that if it were not for La Fayette and the sacrifice of the Frenchmen who came to your rescue, you Americans would still be singing God Save the Queen. And I could add that using your argument, these ungrateful Europeans should be ashamed to have criticized Stalin and the old USSR because of the sacrifice of almost TWENTY FOUR million Russians during WWII, including 11 Millions Russian soldiers (65% of all the military deaths, versus 2% for the US and 1% for France). So, we Europeans should be 33 times more grateful to the Russians than to the Americans, and should have abstained to criticize or fought the old USSR. What a bunch of ungrateful bastards those Europeans are :!:
Roy

And as a quick follow up, you better dust off your old copy of the March, 1941 "lend-lease act" passed by the US Congress. As for credit to the Soviet Union, it is partially attributable to American supplied goods during the period 1941-1945. Here's a list of supplies sent to the Soviet Union from the US during that period which ended in September, 1945:Aircraft 14,795Tanks 7,056 Jeeps 51,503 Trucks 375,883 Motorcycles 35,170 Tractors 8,071 Guns 8,218 Machine guns 131,633 Explosives 345,735 tons Building equipment valued $10,910,000 Railroad freight cars 11,155 Locomotives 1,981 Cargo ships 90 Submarine hunters 105 Torpedo boats 197 Ship engines 7,784 Food supplies 4,478,000 tons Machines and equipment $1,078,965,000 Non-ferrous metals 802,000 tons Petroleum products 2,670,000 tons Chemicals 842,000 tons Cotton 106,893,000 tons Leather 49,860 tons Tires 3,786,000 Army boots 15,417,001 pairsOf the 34.5 million Soviet troops that served during WWII, a little less than half were wearing US supplied Army boots. How's that for trivia....keeping this friendly. :D

Tinton: Yes, I was not born before or during World War II; however, my father was instramental in D Day occuring at Normandy. He was one of the first frog men who later became known as the navy seals. My father single handedly demined Normandy Beach before the marines went in. He received many metals of honor for his bravery and success. I have as a momento a letter from the President and the Navy which states without my fathers courageous efforts D Day would not have occurred on June 6! I will always be very proud of my father for his courage. The rest of his party either got the bends or did not make it. He never spoke about this. Only found out what he accomplished when my Mother gave my the certificate. Yes, although I was not a part of that ugly time in history I can honestly say my immediate family did participate in ending the war when it did. War is more than a nightmare. A Russian Soldier or officer I can't remember which shot a two year old of a German lady who became my landlady in La Jolla, Ca. Her only child died because she would not go to bed with him when the germans took over her house. I do not believe for a minute America is justified in all the that they do. Quite the contrary.America's hands have blood on them. No question about it. And since I am only second generation American none of my forefathers took part in the American Revolution. In fact, my fathers father escaped Austria right before World War I. My mother's father was a immigrant from Italy and fought against his homeland Italy for the Americans. So one can see war sucks. Just like are invasion of Iraq. Will it ever end? Probably not. I simply thank God I have never had to fight in the insanity of it all!My heart bleeds for the poor Iraqi's. Furthermore, I do not believe Omaba's success is due to the pundits, TV media. His success began when he won Iowa. Subsequently, he lost New Hampshire to Hillary. He has a ground force of young and old who are organized, effective in helping his campaign to succeed. Hillary's people thought she would dominate each state's election; when that did not happen, her campaign went into a tailspin. I do not think she is a bitch. I simply have a gut feeling that she is tied to Bush in some way. Don't ask me why, merely intuition one might say.
JUDY
my last post I made a mistake, meant to say when a Russian soldier or officer shot her only two year old son because she would not go to bed with him. Her only child died as a result of the gun shot wound. Also, I do not believe Roy or myself have ever said we believe America is justified in all the crap that they have caused in this world....present, past, or future.Lastly, invading countries, stealing resources of other countries, etc, etc, is deplorable and I do not condone any of it. And that definitely includes America!!!!

Judy,What an incredible story about your father! And by incredible I do not mean that it is not credible, I mean just plain extraordinary. I have read many books on WWII, but never heard such a remarkable fit. Actually, if you could send me a PM with more details about that softening operation, I would be most appreciative. My remarks about so-called ungrateful English or French were just that, to give an opinion from the other side, the European side. From your posts, we are more or less of the same opinions (but "less" is more interesting, because we can continue to learn from each other).I have heard and read some horrible stories about how some Russian soldiers behaved after entering Germany, and your anecdote was, I am afraid, not an isolated incident. NOT to defend this type of atrocity, it happened on both sides, as you know as well as I. For example, the eight US Marines who were charged with the murder of 24 Iraqi civilians in Haditha, in 2006, including a 76 year old man and a three years old babe. (The cases against seven of them have since been dismissed :?: ). Or the incident involving Pvt Green and four other soldiers who went in a house in Mahmoudiya, also in 2006. Green raped the girl, and then murdered the whole family to cover their asses. But I guess you get the point.Your remarks on Hillary's campaign are of course correct. However, from my own observations, I saw that the media tied themselves onto Obama and promoted him to the expense of Clinton. But this is not to take anything away from his remarkable campaign. And this is precisely one of the reasons I support Obama. It foretells that once in power, Obama will surround himself with intelligent and capable people.Roy, Stick to nuclear physics Daniel, as history is not your long suit! :P
Come on Roy, you can do better. One can be a nuclear physicist and chew gum at the same time. History happens to be one of my interests (FYI, I've just finished reading the autobiography of Nelson Mandela). Although young at the time, in occupied France, I have many vivid memories of that time. These were reinforced by numerous conversations with family and friends, starting with my father. I couldn't help being drawn toward studying the events of WWII, and still read and reflect upon them.Of course, we know that the US supplied the Russians with weapons, etc, to allow them to fight. Even then, there were many instances when the poor Russian soldiers had WOODEN riffles to carry, until, if they were lucky to survive an assault, they could acquire a gun from dead German soldiesr. During WWII, we were allied with the devil, but without this alliance, it is doubtful that we would have prevailed against Hitler. Finally, I cannot disagree more with your statement, I'd like to hear ONE Eastern European agree with that!
There were tens of millions in Eastern Europe who were or became communists, or rather Stalinists, and perpetrated the regime in their own countries. So much so, that very soon after WWII, the Russians did not need occupation troupes: they had enough local support.

Judy,This is just an example of what I was saying about the media favoring Obama over Clinton. This appeared just now (3/30/2008, at 12:00 noon, EST), in the El Paso Times. After every protest was answered and every objection rejected, a hectic and sometimes heated El Paso County Democratic Party convention ended 12 hours after it started with support for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton increasing in El Paso to more than 94 percent. Of the 127 state convention delegates elected by those attending the convention Saturday at the Don Haskins Center, 120 Clinton delegates were elected and only seven Sen. Barack Obama delegates were elected. Those 127 delegates, along with an additional 50 or so delegates seated by a committee, will go to Austin in June to represent El Paso at the state Democratic convention. In Austin, the El Paso County delegates will caucus with the delegates from the rest of the state to finally decide which presidential candidate gets Texas' final 67 delegate votes.
Even though Cliton crushed Obama, 127 to 7, this is the picture which appears with this news. To the casual reader skimming the newspaper, it would seem that it is Obama who won the contest. 20080329__0320-A1-Democonvention_500.jpg[/attachment:1o5fndc0]Alicia Anchondo danced Saturday during the El Paso County Democratic Convention at the Don Haskins Center. About 2,000 El Paso Democrats attended the convention, at which 120 delegates were elected for Hillary Rodham Clinton and seven for Barack Obama. (Mark Lambie / El Paso Times)
Tinton: I would be happy to copy the information I have about the pre-invasion concerning D Day June 6; however, I have to locate the certificate in my special papers which are in my safe deposit box at the bank. Also how would I send it to you in a pm? I am not that literate when it comes to computer technology. Would I have to scan it then send it??? When I received the information about my father, I discussed with my siblings who we could contact (historically speaking) about the days preceding D Day and my fathers instramental role. No one could come up with any answers. Time rolls on and one forgets; plus other issues tend to dominate the landscape of life. To actually include his name in any historical context regarding that special day....have no idea how to go about it!However, since I have a love for history, when I read the certificate, saw the medals, and heard what my father had told my mother, I was blown away. I guess my thought at the time was...throughout history I am certain their are millions of stories similar to my fathers however never documented for the history books. As far as the results in El Paseo...I believe I heard something about the results on Air America and Hard Ball. I'm sick of the entire race. I just don't like the way Hillary plays ball.So at this point I'm signing off on listening to the rhetoric. Blah Blah Blah
