Best move you've made for the year. Well done Bert.

I agree with you about Madam Sarkozy  Nice to see you back posting along with the other strangers who are coming back.
This is GREAT! no more moderation! Wow! Now I can call all Frenchman cheese eating, pedophilic, a$$hole, surrender monkeys!
This is not the first time we have to put up with your (very) funny comments about Frenchman. It seems to me that constantly insulting people because of their nationality, origine or race, is much more of an issue than simply expressing political view about the last election in Australia or religious beliefs. But maybe the difference is too subtle for a dummy cow boy head. I don't want to bring up the Roy subject again, but I don't think he ever insulted or offended other forumites like this Jim Thorpe has done so many times. Roy may be a kind of a "hot head", but he is also a gentleman and a very civilized person. Jim Thorpe is neither of those.
PS : forgive my bad English, but what to expect from a cheese eating, pedophilic, asshole, surrender monkey ? 8)

Is it ME???
Doesn't it strike anybody else here as very strange, not to say perverse, that the only idiotic contributor to this forum that has really, really needed some serious "moderation", since the very welcome removal of the moderators, is a self-admitted US Conservative campaigning for the return of the moderators????
As an American myself I don't pretend to understand most of my country men and women but I apologize for them to the rest of the world - unreservedly.

I am sorry to say I do not understand at all what you are trying to say. And I could not care less about Nicolas Sarkozy and his glamourous wife ! You have your right of opinion and the right to express it like anybody else on this forum, but that doesn't allow you to insult me and other people that did not interfere whatsoever in your previous arguments. And to call people pedophiles or a$$holes are not very glorious political arguments. There is no excuse to such a behaviour and I do not believe I should loose my time rereadind all the threads to try to find you any.
Hi Jimbo ! It is true I have been away a long time. I shall try to participate a bit more and not only to respond to "provocations"
Best regards to all

Jean Pascal,
So I believe that you want me to discontinue my extremely degrading comments regarding the French? I only posted facts that were easily found on the web, why would they upset you? But regardless of what you think, I actually do not hate nor have any real feelings regarding the current French population. What I did was a demonstration of what some on this forum went through everyday when we checked the postings with regards to being a political conserative.
Some on the forum understood what was going on and actually sent me messages of understanding and support... that someone on the forum had been asked numerous times, politely to stop posting items that were intended to offend other people on the forum. Perhaps you missed that part? After being asked by the forum moderators, he argued that there should be no moderation. These moderators involved also understood who was the gentleman in this situation and who wasn't. I suggest you look at the final response of the moderators...where are they now? Certainly not supporting the forum presently...
This is a forum about Bali. It isn't about calling people names nor about the Australian elections. If someone hijacks the forum for personal vindictive threads it hurts the forum. So I take it that it was ok for me and others like me to continuously be insulted in numerous threads? Is it about freedom for some and not for others? Perhaps I am not as subtle as you wish but that is how I and others like me saw it. Did I go to far? Again, perhaps I did... I am not subtle as you suggest but I think it got the point across. So why are you bringing this up two months later?
If I have offended you by my crazy outburst, I apologize. Sarkozy is a great new president and his new wife is beautiful.
Jim Thorpe
Markit,
Sorry that it is your opinion that others did not need moderation. Many of us felt differently and I guess you didn't notice...to busy apologizing I guess.
Why would it be perverse for me to want moderation? Bert says it was a mistake to get rid of them.
Jimbo,
A sincere thanks for the welcome. Two points though:
-I think the return of the others is short lived, unfortunately for the overall health of the forum
-I don't think I will be back here often. I have been a member here since the first days it opened in 2002 and have enjoyed many of the people I have met here. In general, I try to post in the travel section unless something comes up that I can or want to contribute. I am not an expat nor do I try to act like one...I found it interesting to read the trials and tribulations of the expat community. This forum is no longer that earlier forum. I no longer like the direction of the forum nor many of the current contributors. Cheers to you from Iowa.
Markit
No, I think you need moderation. And starting off a line in which you say I've been apologizing too much with the word "Sorry" doesn't even need commenting on.
Look back on your rant over the last 2 months and how many people have been offended by the blatant stupidity of what you have written purportedly only to overstate the forum's dire need for moderation that only you have missed and only you could have needed!
I will keep my opinion - "perverse"!
Jim Thorpe
Really, Only I thought it needed moderating?
I apologize for MY actions, you apologize for everyone because you think you are better than other americans. Just as you think I was the only one that wanted moderation, you are blind to what is going on around you. I think you need to apologize for my dog because he he dug a hole in the neighbors yard.
I think you need to apologize because you said you weren't going to comment on this thread anymore.
I will accept the statement that you are perverse.
Jim Thorpe
BTW,
Bert himself said it was a mistake to get rid of the moderators but I guess in your world Bert is a nobody.
Thorsten
– sorry but will not call you Jim Thorpe anymore, this would mean to insult a great athlete.
While in the past I often enjoyed the one or other discussion with you and despite having mostly different points of view, I appreciated your wit and humour, this is over now.
I must admit, I had a good giggle when you ran amok with your French bashing, but not because of the French, it was more amusing me how you embarrassed yourself with these completely ridiculous “facts”, to defend this bad behaviour afterwards with even more ridiculous statements makes it only worse.
Paranoia seem to become an American epidemic – what do you think – ?
Bert Vierstra
May I remind you of the updated forum rules?
e) Questioning members identities (revealing them) or capabilities in public. Send a PM to the moderators, or report the post.
Jim Thorpe
Thorsten,
I am amazed you would do this after Bert just posted this rule just a few hours ago...things not to do...
"Questioning members identities (revealing them) or capabilities in public. Send a PM to the moderators, or report the post."
Bert Vierstra
And Jim could have reported the post :(
Markit
You and Iowa deserve each other...
Markit
As a point of understanding could someone please explain how Thorsten's (and mine?) comment has contravened the forum regs?
Whether an idiot is called Jim Thorpe, Eric or Monty Python doesn't really enlighten me any further as to the persons identity.
Now questioning a person's capabilities is a little harder as in "I don't think he can chew gum and walk at the same time" does this question his ability to chew gum or walk or do both?
Does it matter if it is, in fact, true?
Help me...
Bert Vierstra
The thing is that personal information can be misused. And it has been on this forum.... So, people can remain anonymous on this forum, if they choose to.
Markit
Bert I understand that people want to remain anonymous but from that post I don't understand how his anonymity was lost - only people that know him already would have understood the reference that you removed...???
Bert Vierstra
Yes calling someone by his first name is not really revealing, I know.... 8)
But, unless someone has chosen themselves to reveal their real name, other members don't, thank you.
People can pick a nick, and be the nick, as long as they stick to the rules.
Ok?
Thorsten
He proved me right :D
He is already suffering the American epidemic !
