And please Alain, don’t use a well primped (coiffure), French Poodle for your avatar! :P :P :P
Just kidding of course, and congrats on your new status on the forum.
If you are shy about using your own portrait, may I suggest one of those wine labels from Chateaux Mouton Rothschild designed by one of the many famous French artists?

Talk about avatar, ... i have one actual from last week ;-)). Also, we waiting for your avatar Alain.

Not common in Bali to drink wine , maybe not easy to find !

Don't you dare give him the Petrus. It is for mr I tell you only for me. No OZ wine good as many are can live up to a Grand Cru from Chateau Petrus. Pleas Roy is a philistine lost for the last 8 years in Bali. He will give you fish to accompany this with a Balinese pepper sauce. Please PM me for my address to send it to.
Roy
OOOPPS. Just got a PM from Jimbo! He’s upped the stakes to a live internet feed from Saudi Arabia to win this bottle of Chateau Petrus! Jimbo is willing to “do” a camel on a live internet feed!
Damn! I wished I had kept his wife’s e-mail address! :P :P :P :P
Jimbo says I’m “a philistine lost for the last 8 years in Bali.” True, but how to compete with a camel? :P
Jimbo also said that I “will give you fish to accompany this (Petrus) with a Balinese pepper sauce.”
No way Jimbo. But! After you are done with the camel, I’m sure we could find a way to make it tasty here in Bali! :P :P :P :P :P

too funny....
Roy
Alain, please...do ignore my good fiend Jimbo. He has been in the sands of Saudi Arabia for so, so, very long. :(
His need is to quench his thirst. A simple Budweiser or Miller beer will surely awaken him, and bring him back to us....so much we long for his presence.
He will never understand that Chateau Petrus, 1985...would be like unto an angel pissing on my tongue, whilst all Jimbo needs is a warm Budweiser. :P
In your infinite wisdom, you ask, "what about that Australian substitute, is it worth it ?" Nope. But I have to be careful about pissing off my new Aussie friend who is coming with awesome "quaffing gear." Yup! That's what they call fine wine "down under!"
If truth be told, I'd likely give up my left nut for a well stored bottle of Lafite '66. We've already got more boys than most can ever dream of...so, who needs the nuts?
Anyway Alain, since you are holding me hostage, I'll promise to wear a French flag around my shoulders, walk through my village, never tell a French joke again, EVER, and sing the French national anthem if you promise to bring that bottle of Petrus to my house, and ignore that barking dog from Saudi Arabia! :P :P :P :P

Hi Alain welcome to the forum.
I have been in Bali and just got back. Must tell you that I meet a very nice French lady on this forum and we have exchanged emails for the last few months.
Low and behold we were in Bali at the same time and we meet for dinner. I know this sounds stupid but I had never meet anyone French before and I don't think she had meet too many Aussies.
We went to a restaurant in Legian owned by Australians and we got talking about wine. Obviously being French I knew she was an expert.
I decided to buy a bottle of Australian wine, which turned into 2 bottles. I am proud of what Australia has done in the wine producing arena and I was eager for her to try.
She was horrified when the bottle of Jacobs Creek Cab Sav came in a wine cooler. Kerry the owner explained that room temperature in Australia is very different from room temperature in France etc. Then my friend would not drink - because she was letting the wine breath.
A great night was had by all. She really enjoyed the Australian wine and we really had a great time. The language barrier just added to the fun of the night. :D :D :D

While I'm very happy that the great gravity knife passed you by, don't be so sure about New Yorker's love and knowledge of all things good that are French.

Send me a PM. I have no doubt at all that we can work this out. :P

I'm sure too. There are no problems, just challenges in live. But my question was (once again  ) also serious.
Too all: I almost never use word, certainly not for writing on a forum and my english is not so good (as all of my languages)

Roy has turned into a sophistical rhetorician inebriated only by the exhuberance of his own verbosity. I would he is right in saying give you a whole camel stuffed with a sheep stuffed with a chicken and the finest dates.
I will have the air conditioning set to 16-17 degrees and savour each drop. After this I would be in such a good mood I would happily do the dance of the flaming a/ho/e and give you as many young boys as your heart desired all this after dusk of course.
I have also decided to come and drink all Roy's malt whisky next year in retribution for his ribald remarks.
My ancesters were Messr's Pollet of french decent and were the last people to be guillitined in France so that has to be worth more than a New Yorkers french fancy. I mean to say he is not even european. :-) :-) :-)

I have one experience with mr Petrus. And it was bad.
One too rich too soon friend of mine decided that it was classy to start drinking wine. As he always goes for the best he asked me and some other friens who drink wine, what was the top of the bill. So there came the 3 bottles of Petrus (dont remember wich year, but it was a good one)! He dindt want to wait too long and decided to drink them at his next birthday (in 9 months or so). After some very unsophisticated wrestling with the cork, we (I) tasted him. It was terrible. But then really terrible. What did the stupid @#$%^&* do? He put the bottles in his cellar. We told him that. So that was good (he didnt want to buy the ugly "wine fridge"). But placing the wine directly against the heating pipes for 1 year, was not so good. He was not even ashamed!
Telling this a new question rises: Can I take all my wines (around 300 bottles) with me to bali? And how much will the import tax be?

It sure will be challenging....
Welcome !

Hello Everyone!
I have been visiting this wonderful forum for, I’m ashamed to say, years now. I have so appreciated the stories you have posted. Some of them have been incredible personal and I thank you for sharing them with everyone.
I live in Vancouver, Canada with my husband (who is Balinese) and our two beautiful children. We have lived here for almost six years, but are planning to move back to Bali as soon as I finish school. I feel both excited and nervous about the move. Excited because I want my children to grow up with their loving grand-parents whom they absolutely adore and nervous because, well, I will have to try and find a balance between being a full fledged member of the banjar (and all that that entails) with my need for independence. Challenging to be sure!
Anyways, that’s a bit about me. I look forward to contributing to discussions in the future!
Happy Galungan!

Thanks for warm welcome everyone!
BaliLife - How on earth did I miss the fact that you are living in Vancouver?! And you say there are at least three others? I thought we knew all the Balinese people living here!
