While we are at it on updating this thread my friend arrived last night to Jakarta, no health insurance no problem just like I told her wasn't checked. If it were me I'd take the gamble on that one and have one ready to book on the go if required on airport wifi.
An alternative is to buy a policy, print it off then cancel it. The cooling off period for my particular policy is 21 days (CoverMore Australia) with a full refund as long as you haven't travelled before cancelling it (They even refunded about six months pro-rata on an earlier policy when I had to bail out in February last year)Back in April it was enough to have a letter declaring that I would cover all medical costs by myself and they didn't ask for that either.

Change the text box to white fill with no border (the edit controls appear at the top after the text box is inserted), write what you want in it (try to match the font and size) and place it over the original text (words, dates, dollar value etc.). Then click File > Export as PDF and the text box will be merged with the background and cannot be selected again in the new PDF whereas it can still be deleted in the original. Not that I would do such a thing of course ;)

That would be nice Mugwump but unfortunately holding a KITAS/KITAP doesn't allow anyone to bypass quarantine (only diplomatic Ambassadors are exempt and even they must self quarantine at home); here is the wording form the Covid 19 Handling Task Force Surat 20 of Oct 14th 2021:

Upon arrival, RT-PCR re-tests are carried out for international travellers and they are required to undergo quarantine for 5 x 24 hours, with the following conditions:
For Indonesian citizens, namely Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI); Student/student; or Government Employees returning from overseas official trips in accordance with the Decree of the Head of the COVID-19 Handling Task Force Number 14 of 2021 concerning Entry Points, Quarantine Places, and RT-PCR Obligations for Indonesian Citizens International Traveling at a cost borne by the government.
For Indonesian citizens outside the criteria as referred to in number 1) and for foreigners, including foreign diplomats, other than the head of foreign representatives and the family of the head of the foreign representative must undergo quarantine at the quarantine accommodation place.
The letter also defines an international traveller as follows "An International Traveller is a person who has traveled from abroad in the last 14 days"Hopefully the quarantine thing will soon be eliminated or at least dropped to the level of some countries where you spend one night in a quarantine facility awaiting the arrival PCR test results.
You are reading me wrong. This post has essentially developEd into concern about requiring high end health insurance. My point about having a kitas is that requirement had been satisfied when meeting the requirements for gaining a kitas. Obviously we still must deal with the quarantine until the fickle mind changes.

Obviously we still must deal with the quarantine until the fickle mind changes.
I see. The sticking points with a KITAS is firstly whether the KITAS owner actually has specific Covid coverage in their insurance that was required to get a KITAS in the first place and secondly, whether the Covid insurance coverage requirement actually applies to KITAS holders anyway. The current regulation applies to all international travellers entering Indonesia 'for the purpose of tourism' and my retirement KITAS is actually officially titled 'Wisman Lanjut Usia' which of course is 'Elderly Foreign Tourist' so it could be argued that it does apply but I think that level of semantics would fly over the head of the average immigration officer.Hopefully all of these vague and ever changing 'thought bubble' rules that are impossible to enforce will be dropped soon so that tourists can actually return to Bali.

hmmmm? Seems strange that you somehow manage to interweave the requirements for a kitas (that has been consistent for a good number of years), with those for tourists quite recently?

hmmmm? Seems strange that you somehow manage to interweave the requirements for a kitas (that has been consistent for a good number of years), with those for tourists quite recently?
I don't think I'm interweaving the requirements for obtaining a KITAS with the recent regulations so let me try to clarify my point further.

The current requirements specifically apply to international travellers entering Bali on "a Short Visit Visa or other permit" for "the purpose of tourism" i.e. the rule doesn't differentiate between a short visit visa or a KITAS - which is a limited stay permit of course, it addresses the purpose of travel i.e. tourism.
Therefore because what is commonly referred to as a retirement KITAS is officially an elderly tourist limited stay permit (The exact wording from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights website regarding changing a retirement VITAS to a KITAS is 'as a tourist over the age of 55 years' ) so technically anyone on a current retirement KITAS would be entering Bali for the purpose of tourism.
However the recent rules only apply to direct flights to Bali so a KITAS holder, or business visa holder for that matter, can enter Jakarta without the insurance.Unfortunately these rules are invariably vague on many subjects and leave a lot of "What if?" questions unanswered but fortunately most of them are never enforced and/or repealed within a short time as this one probably will be.
