And Cameron's imminent departure has left us with one of the great unanswered questions of our time. Is it "Will Brexit usher in the break up of the UK?". No. Is it "Will Labour ever be able to govern the UK again?" No. It's "What was that tune he was humming as he entered No. 10?"

Now a UK Parliamentary body is going to debate, on 5 Sept 2016, the result of the petition, due to its huge amount of petitioners.... Just watched David Cameron on TV delivering his last question time in Parliament. He was in a very relaxed and jovial mood and I enjoyed the humour...much like a comedy show. He was taking the piss out of Jeffrey Corbyn who squirmed in response. The only one not laughing too much was Theresa May...looks like she shat herself thinking of her future while Cameron looked like a guy about to go on holiday and liquidate his offshore accounts.....:icon_rolleyes:

The thread about 'Pokeman' has migrated to a discussion about brexit...seems out of place. If I had the vote, which wasn't available to me, I would have voted for the status quo to remain and sort the EU out rather than resign and have no future say..... but I've no knowledge about the social situation in UK as haven't visited there since 1991. My buddy and wife (live in Umalas) are currently touring the Lake District and Scotland then returning to his mum's place in Ipswich....so I'll await his report. Therefore I'm a Brexiter as I left UK in 1974 to find decent work.....but I miss the pubs. So naturally, reading posts in the 'Pokeman thread', I was surprised to know the pubs of 'yore are no more'....due to being a member of EU. In Vancouver we have many Scottish, Irish and Canadian style pubs much like UK was...and here in Bali I have an English pub (serves Kilkenny) within walking distance and an Ozzie one even closer.... so life, Brit pubs and Irish beer, as far as I know, lives on in foreign lands.....so screw the EU....:applause:

Davit i dont think the EU are having any influence on the British pub what is making a big differance is cheap supermarket booze one instance is sapphire original gin 16.00 for a litre bottle. People are also buying from the internet Amazon on there prime day last week were giving some crazy prices and they soon sold out. The same can be said about the decline in high st shopping its on the decline due to e-commerce who whats to be walking around the shops on a wet saturday afternoon. Sadly the British pubs have been on the decline from when smoking was banned in the pubs. However some of the pubs are surviving very well wetherspoons offer good food and drinks very well priced and most times of the day are busy so not all doom and glum.

Last month was in London and a round of 3 beers cost 15.90p. At the exchange rate then that was about IDR 270,000, enough to keep a smallish Balinese family in rice for a month. That's why British pubs are dying.

Oooops...I was thinking, from the post about the EU causing the decline in English traditional pubs, was 'coz the chatting was in Franco/Deutsch/Iti/Espaniol/Bulgarian...if that's a language... etc......:lemo:

My quote "I blame the EU" about the disappearance of pubs in Rose St. was a throwaway line, it wasn't meant to be serious. I know what the real reason is of course. It is obvious if you think about it. In my day, there were no women in politics, now they are everywhere, making up new rules and regulations and stamping their feet when they don't get their own way. Hence, a blood alcohol limit for drivers of .035% in Scotland now. Look at all the bad news that has been happening since women newsreaders took over. You never used to get such bad news when there were only men newsreaders. Bleedin' obvious, innit?

The UK Gov't today will announce if the China/France funded Hinkley Point Nuclear Plant will get the go-ahead. The Prime Minister is against it so we'll see how the UK/China investment relationship will pan-out. The UKP is below US$1.30 and IDR17,090 mid-market.China Warns U.K. That Relations Hang on Hinkley Point - Bloombergedit: it appears the decision is in 'pause' mode while they ponder what to do.
