Aris charges Rp200.000 for a sponsorship letter with a copy of his KTP (Indonesian ID card). I'm not sure how much he will charge for a family, but everything’s negotiable in Indonesia. Information to apply for the visa in Thailand is here KBRI Bangkok Thailand - Visa Information You must present the sponsor letter and copy KTP with the application. After the visa is issued and your passport returned, you must enter Indonesia within 90 days of the approval date. The date of approval is marked clearly on the visa. After you arrive and two weeks prior to the expiry date of the 60 day visa, contact Aris to arrange the first extension. For each extension he charges Rp600.000 (again not sure for a family... negotiate). After 4 extensions you trip off to Singapore for a day (or wherever) and you start the process all over again.

Thanks for that. His price to me via email was 500k each person. I would presume he can do all the visas at the same time, so he does not make 4 separate trips for us....I would imagine some decent bargaining room for all....hopefully Cheers. I really do not think I could do DIY....I hate paperwork and officialdom type stuff like this and going there 3 times a month, well that will get real old real quick.

That could of been what I read before...whereas the Thai cannot extend, others can.

IT does get real old real quick and even patient people bite the bullet and pay someone to do it. It IS reasonable to get a discount for 4 people and I'm sure some agent will be willing to drop their price for the promise of a continuing business. IMO you will get the best deal by negotiating face to face. I don't think that email will manage that. BTW I know you corrected but to be clear to all...a Tourist Visa is not a VOA...they are different. A VOA is Visa On Arrival in Indonesia with an 'appropriate' passport and costs US$25 (or equivelant), lasts 30 days and is extendable for another 30 days. A Tourist Visa is issued from the RI Embassy/Consul where you live and the price is different depending on the country of the application. It lasts 60 days and is NOT extendable to any passport holder (Thai or Australian). However, I know some people have extended, but only in Bali. My personal take is Bali Imigrasi either don't know, or pretend to not know, 'coz they get money and they aren't going to look a gift horse etc........the visa is stamped B211 which is the same as a Sosbud, so a 'mistake' can easily be made. The good old days in Thailand you used to be able to send your passport o/s to be stamped and get a visa and then sent back to you.

Just picked up my 60 day Tourist visa from them. Took about 4 days and $60. I needed an outbound ticket but the one I showed them was for about 4 months after my arrival - certainly beyond the 60 days. Anyways, they're a nice bunch of fellows working there and most helpful.

Ok, thanks to all the good info here, have got a handle on whats required for either a sobud or for a tourist visa... Now I am wondering about the company as someone mentioned here as making the sosbud route look cheap. Has anyone experience with this as it was also recommended to me by 2 other people. A company and associated WP and then the sponsorship of the family through it. I have some quoted prices for company setups, circa 25 - 35juta, but yet to get a definite answer of the ongoing costs for a company and for the visa associated. Anyone ? Thanks

Yes...thinking only because it is a way I have been told is an alternative for my situation. So now looking to see if that is accurate in the sense that it may be cost effective and have other advantages down the track..... When you consider the whole sosbud package, the cost and the hassles, both in country and out....if the company route was an alternative for similar cost, less or more etc....I would consider it in comparison to the other visa hassles required for leaving the country and monthly renewals and agent fees etc etc.

@ Samsiam I don't think setting up a Company just to avoid visa issues would be viable. For a foreigner to have full control a PMA Company is required and that is bigtime....see link... Minimum Capital Requirement for PT PMA Setting up a PT (small Company registration) is restrictive and would need an Indonesian nominee as majority shareholder.

It's Indonesia...there are rules that need compliance....like a Bule needs a helmet to ride a motor cycle but 12 year old children don't...... then there are others...:anonymous: The link I offered allows to ask for a quote to set-up a Company....why not ask? I'd be interested in the result myself.

Already got a price from a friends lawyer...but not sure if he is similar to lawyers here that offer increased foreigner services for a suitable hike in the cost....let me go look my emails.

Ok...35,000,000IDR for company setup. Kitas 8,000,000 $1200 per year for ministry of manpower Kitas for family member 5,600,000 per year And then ongoing each year 5,600,000 x 4 (4 of us) This does not include the yearly ongoing company return costs I presume.

@67 Wow...not cheap! To make a comparison to other visas I think the US$1200/annum needs to be removed from the formula....as that is for a work permit. You would need to add an optional Multi-Entry Permit (MERP) to those costs if there is a need to travel. I think they are around IDR 2,000,000 each. Also, I believe that a PMA owner/director/commissioner needs to apply for an NWPW which is a tax report....I'd try to avoid that as tax in Indonesia is on world-wide earnings....so, having an NWPW opens all sort of opportunities for the tax-man to investigate.

Thanks GDJ. ^^....no, not cheap, but I would expect in reality less than what is quoted there as that same lawyer quoted 1million for the sponsor letters alone.....each.
