I am already booked in to have the Moderna booster on my return to Australia this week. For those vaguely interested their booster is a half dose of the regular vaccine but still slightly outperforms Pfizer in antibody production. Here's hoping that translates to real world protection.

For those who are interested the circular letter about the boosters, HK.02.02/11/252/2022, has been published at last. I've attached a translation minus the definitions, the references to a hundred other laws and the forms in the appendix that don't come out in Google Translate - they seem to be for staff use anyway.

Flu vax is required every year, I believe because the virus mutates. Other vaxes don't have lifetime protection, so I don't see covid boosters as a problem.

I am friends with a few of the local barmaids can confirm they've been notified and called in for boosters in the last week or so via https://www.pedulilindungi.id/ app notifications

I'm still weighing up the options: am already double vaxxed without issue but now the consideration is whether to risk any possible complications of number 3 with the possible benign reaction to getting Omicron, which I want anyway for the long term immunity. Apparently those with double vaxs are only very marginally less "immune", whatever that means, to the virus than those with 3, and from what I've read/heard the effects of the virus (Omi) are negligible - WHEN YOU'RE VAXXED.

Perhaps she's had had a blessed life? Frankly if you follow the statistics from insurance companies between 4 and 10 people die every year from cause stated "underwear". Killed by their fecking underwear. The vast number of Omicron cases world wide are showing very limited sickness comparable to 3 to 7 day "cold".

FYI the Indonesian government has now announced that boosters are available to every double vaccinated person over the age of 18 (they don't specifically mention foreigners of course but presumably ITAS/ITAP holders are eligible) and districts no longer have to wait until they have achieved a 70% minimum dose for the general public or 60% for the elderly as per the conditions of the previous instructions issued on January the 12th. Note that the WHO is now advising that countries only consider someone to be fully vaccinated if they have had a booster and it looks like Australia will adopt that policy soon — Novax Djokovic take note :)

Not taking a third shot may not be an issue for you IF you remain in Bali, but it MAY impact you if you choose to travel, e.g., I can see Australia probably requiring a booster for you to be considered to be 'fully' vaxed, not too far in the future.

I wouldn't be surprised about that. Vaccines, in real world conditions at the global population level, are estimated to prevent severe illness requiring hospitalisation in about 90% of the vaccinated so 10% of the vaccinated in Australia is still more than 2 million who can end up in hospital, with millions more who can get very sick but not quite enough to require hospitalisation. If we drop below the global population level and just consider Australia alone where more than 13 million adults are clinically obese (The last ABS National Health Survey in 2018), 47% of them had one or more chronic conditions and many of them were smokers who drink at risky or high risk levels then I reckon that 90% is being a little optimistic regardless of how many vaccinations they've received :(

Sounds like my reaction to my last cholerea/typhoid vax a few years ago. Few vaccines give lifetime, or 100% protection, and the covid vax is no different. Feeling the sickest she ever has is the bad news. The GOOD news is she didn't die!!
